THQ Inc. today announced plans to deliver "Marvel Super Hero Squad," the first video game based on the animated series, "The Super Hero Squad Show," scheduled to debut this fall on Cartoon Network. "Marvel Super Hero Squad" will mark the first title in THQ's licensing agreement with Marvel Entertainment, Inc., and is currently in development for the Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2 and PSP. The multiplayer adventure game will feature nonstop action-adventure gameplay and epic battles, as well as a breadth of the new, super-stylized Marvel characters.

"We are thrilled to add 'Marvel Super Hero Squad' to THQ's extensive licensed kids portfolio," said Kevin Kraff, vice president, global brand management, THQ. "Super Hero Squad will feature an animation style that will appeal to a younger audience, but its depth in graphics and gameplay will also engage the more mature, avid fans of the renowned Marvel brand."

"Expanding upon 'The Super Hero Squad Show' brand is a major initiative for Marvel in 2009, and launching the Marvel Super Hero Squad video game is a key component in the brand expansion," said Simon Phillips, president, Worldwide Consumer Products, and CEO, Marvel Animation. "We are confident THQ will bring the renowned Marvel characters to life in a video game that will satisfy the longtime Marvel fans, as well as bring new fans into the fold."

I feel sorry for the people that worked on making this game. What a waste of time and talent. They should of made a fighting game with the US Politics of this style.

So this is a Super Mario Smash Bros Brawl combined with a G rated Marvel Ultimate Alliance?

SAME 10 CHARACTERS OVER AND FREAKIN OVER AGAIN!

MARVEL PISSES ME OFF!

haha what is wrong with you guys? This looks like a great title for kids and a fun one to just goof around with.

Altho the extreme violence of a Punisher game also sounds appealing. Any word on screen shots or storylines?

Boo! Hiss!

What is so wrong with making kiddie versions of our favorite franchises? This only introduces our favorite characters to them in a way that isn't as violent and not too serious for their lower attention spans, so that when these kids get older they would make Marvel even more money in the long run should they decide to read the comics or watch the movies.

This is all part of Marvel's sustainable development plan. If they only cater to one generation, they will not make as much money in the future.

Lucas is doing that with Clone Wars. While I absolutely loathe that show, I understand why he's doing it.

Another example: Batman - The Brave and the Bold.

Every good franchise gets bastardized, to cater to everyone, including the demographic of people who aren't as smart as you are. What is that word again? Oh, "mainstream".

While I normally wouldn't play this type of game myself, I will have lots of fun playing this game with my nephews and nieces, just like I enjoy playing those Lego video games with them.

@ My Left NUT
Don't feel sorry for them, they still made tons of money, and had lots of fun making it.

This game might not be bad. Check out the Lego Star Wars, Indy and Batman games. They all got good reviews and are comical and fun for all ages. Hopefully THQ has been taking notes and doesn't just pump out a crap game that will sell no matter how bad it is cause its got super heroes in it

@It's for kids people!!!

u seeem to be the only one who understands that. its not meant for ne one over the age of 8.

@ muggzy. you're complaining about marvel promoting the same 10 characters? what do you want? them to be like dc and only promote the same 2? at least marvel has the decentcy to make movies, games, and shows with a veriety of characters. unlike dc were all iwe have to choose from is superman, batman, and the works of alan moore. GO MARVEL. NUFF SAID

I don't know about anyone else, but when I or my friends see THQ on any game we skip it. Their games are terrible.

Mike... I think that is expected. They are branded for and marketting to a younger audience. I for one, will get this for my kid (6 years old). He loves comics and Marvel characters, but he isn't ready for the the complex plots and stories of most books, or the complexity of most games. This will be blast to play with my kid.

But, if some folks out there aren't ready to think outside of the bubble that they live in, oh well.

Finally a game based on comics that I can enjoy with my kids! I'm so tired of thinking, "Well I'll just wait for the kids to go to sleep, then I can play my game."

I just got back from E3 where I was and played this game. :)

I'm a 38yo hard-core Marvel fan, and gamer. Despite that handicap, I really liked this game.

Sure it's made for 'kids' but the combat is fun (had to have the controller prised from my hands)

Sure the look is cutesy but the licence the Devs have is for the toys and the new cartoon (which follows the style of the toys) so what could they do?

I think they have done a real good job of representing the licence they have.

Anyway the E3 build was the Alpha build if the bald headed guy demoing it was to be believed so expect the game to be tighter and even more fun come release..

You cant see it in the few screen shots released so far, but when you see this game running it looked REAL pretty. Far better than most Wii games (heck it looks better than some 360 games) but don't take my word for it, give it a try when it finally lands...

anyway I was more than pleasantly surprised.

are you you minga (ilovesacks the person)

anyway the game looks good but im nmot going to get it

Posted by: Malik on October 5, 2009 at 18:43:58

why are you people losing your ****ing minds it looks like a cute game that kids will have a ball with and the older people will get a few chuckles out of, i like that is has a large list of playables (21),

Newsflash Jackasses Marvel is for EVERYONE not some people

Posted by: mcmitalian3 on October 10, 2009 at 02:08:29

So... why hasn't anybody been asking why it's being released for ps2 and not ps3? I'd really like to know this cause my ps3 doesn't play ps2 games and that kinda' sucks... does anyone know why this is?

Posted by: jmm on October 21, 2009 at 15:13:07

they need to put it on xbox 360!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Becky on October 26, 2009 at 12:13:56

I have this game for my son (4 1/2). he loves it. I hate it that most people think that games are for adults.. Hello, games are for kids. I hope they cater more games to kids without all the violence. I love the Lego games, they are not too realistic and no blood and guts... In addition, there is a problem with this game. In two player mode, the characters can leave each other and get lost. they just disappear off the screen and someone has to go chasing the other character.
