The First Sherlock Holmes Trailer Hits!
Source:Warner Bros. Pictures
May 18, 2009

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for director Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Kelly Reilly and Eddie Marsan. We described the trailer in our coverage from ShoWest, but you can watch the trailer for yourself in various formats right here.

The action-adventure-mystery, opening Christmas Day, sends Holmes (Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Watson (Law) on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.

The trailer is decent but i can still tell you the movie itself is going to suck. I know this is based on a comicbook but most people wont know that. This goes against what Sherlock Holmes is. The producer has said the intellect will take a backseat to the action. They're trying to make something that you don't have to think about. They think we wont see it unless theres pretty explosions, scantily clad women and people being punched in the face. I don't like this for what it represents, Hollywoods lack of interest in intelligence and well thought out plots and instead just saying things like "can you make her wear the least amout of clothes as possible?", "can you make that explosion bigger? And put more of them here, here and here", "there hasen't been a fight scene in four minutes, lets put one here" and of course "I don't know, it seems too complicated for the general public". This movie above all others shows that they just want us sitting slack jawed in our seats shoveling popcorn into the holes in our faces. I know that it's a business but i mean come on. I never react this way, i always give a movie a chance and infact i there are only a very few movies i hate. A movie has to do alot for me to hate it (anything by Uwe Boll) but i expect nothing from this movie.

Was very optimistic about this project when I heard about it, but what's with the slow motion Snatch-like fight style. Common, show the material a little respect.

Robble robble. I can't wait to pick up my Sherlock Holmes goodies in my Christmas Happy Meal! Maybe they'll have glasses, like Star Trek does at Burger King!

The movie itself looks like it is going to be good. All the nay sayers need to understand that RDJ was cast shortly after the ginormous success of Iron Man. The people behind the movie wanted someone with box office swagger and there were none higher at the time. This movie appears to be the vehicle to launch a franchise. I am not going to say that it is going to be a great Sherlock movie, but it should be very entertaining never the less.

This could be called "Schlock" Holmes because Downey's accent is awful, the action looks silly and the scenes with the woman in the corset look overly gratuitous.

I have to say, I get tired of seeing Downey play the same type of fast talking wise-cracking character over and over.

I'll wait for some clips but as of now looks a bit boring.

looks good but whats with the slow motion???

Posted by: Schlock Holmes? on May 19, 2009 at 00:49:34

It may suffer from "300" syndrome.
Hoping for the best but expecting nothing much.

Idk but Robert's voice sounded dubbed like it was a voice over track.

And i agree with what "ico" said, im still going to see this but i really want sherlock to be very intelligent but i didn't see that at all in the trailer all i saw were crappy action scenes. Yeah i liked him in Iron Man because Robert was the only one to fit Iron Man's personality so Robert was pretty much playing himself in that movie. But after that movie everyone thinks he's the best actor ever or a god but thats not true and to those people who are going to comment this and say that Robert Downey rules......then you can suck it because you people are idiots.

C'mon Watson isn't even fat in this movie and being played by a non talented over actor Jude Law.

I agree with ico. This is going to be nothing but tears for die-hard Holmes fans. Way too much action and not enough detective work is what this movie looks like. I know Holmes had a thing for being over dramatic and theatrical with the deduction of his cases but this looks a little over the top. Jude looks great as Watson though.

This could kick-off a great series. Watch out James Bond.

No it's not Conan Doyle as I remember him, or Jeremy Britt or Basil Rathbone.
But this looks like FUN! :D
I imagine a lot of die hard Holmes fans will be taken a back.
But THIS LOOKS LIKE FUN !!!! :D
Robert Downey Jr? Looks like a another solid performance.
P.S. ...............fun. :D

ico get off your high horse and look at the big picture. 1) Guy Ritchie films NEVER suck. So you better just shut it!! 2) The big picture isn't Hollywood making a dumbed down Sherlock. It's societies inability to enjoy a complicated, suspenseful, well thought out and acted murder mystery with a well developed plot and we all know it's true because one of the major problems people had with Watchmen was, there WASN'T ENOUGH ACTION. Hollywood is a business, you're atleast smart of enough to realize that but remember ico they appeal to what the majority craves and they crave pretty women and fights!! You want to blame someone blame your friends blame everyone who lines up by the thousands to see senseless violence, flat stomachs and big breasts. ico get off your mountain top and blame those people truly responsible, everyone who enjoys a good movie!!!

The truth is Guy Ritchie is an excellent film maker and Robert Downey is an excellent actor and this movie is gonna scratch me exactly where I itch.

Man of steel

What are you talking about? The best word i can use to describe everyone of his movies (which i've seen) is "hollow".

Posted by: Honest Fan on May 19, 2009 at 01:54:42

Fellas, Fellas, everyone take a deep breath...
Okay, now realize that this is a TEASER trailer! We aren't going to see a lot of thought provoking, intellectual, detective stuff in a trailer, we're going to see snippets of fights, breasts, and explosions - with a few smart @ss remarks thrown in for good measure. Don't be too quick to judge this movie - it'll be a popcorn movie for sure, but it'll be Sherlock Holmes, which means it'll have twists, mystery, and won't require all it's audience to check their brains at the door. I trust RDJ to not have committed to making a movie that would sabatoge his career when its finally taking off like its got jet-boots on. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trust Jude Law with my baby-sitter, or Robert Downy with the key to my wine-cellar, but I trust these guys to make a good movie.
Relax ico... it's gonna be just fine.

I'm not impressed. Seems like typical Hollywood garbage.

Posted by: Nowhere Man on May 19, 2009 at 02:20:34

If it sucks, it'll be because of the director. I can't think of a single Guy Richie film I liked.

ok numb nuts stop with the pointless *****ing, slow motion fights big explosions blah blah blah, 300 wasnt the first movie with slow motion fighting and michael bay wasnt the first to blow a whole lota **** up, you people do realize thier is one guy who makers the trailors who has nothing to do with the actual movie so stop the *****ing and watch the damn movie an then have your opinion

Posted by: Spider on May 19, 2009 at 03:21:57

@ ico: You maybe right about all this. But still, to make such judgment BEFORE actually seeing the movie? I hope you're wrong. Heck, YOU probably hope you're wrong! LOL!!!
