Warner Bros. Pictures has provided us with new photos from Sherlock Holmes, opening in theaters on Christmas Day.

In this dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, the Guy Ritchie-directed film sends Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.

This movie's going to suck, just like the Wolfman remake.

Just to remind every one that this is a different take of the Sherlock Holmes. It's hard to judge because this will be the first action flick version of this character. And the one who said that this will suck is such a loser that he view all the movie he sees here with disdain. You are a bottomless pit my friend. You can never be satisfied.

I haven't been exposed to Sherlock Holmes much in my life besides a mention in "Disney's The Great Mouse Detective" and "Rush Hour 3"...

Looks good though. I don't know how he falls into the category of "Superheroes" but oh well.

I've read every Sherlock Holmes story, seen nearly every movie and TV version, and listened to as many radio plays that I could get ahold of. I admit to being a little nervous about this when I first heard of it. I think that was brought about by a knee jerk fear of whiners complaining that an American shouldn't be playing such a treasured British icon. But the more I see about this film, the more I anticipate its release.

This movie will SUCK. I base that opinion on the fact that I haven't seen the movie. Of course, I haven't heard the music, or seen any footage...but that won't stop me!

I just want to fit in.

Seriously, The two lead actors are gifted. I'm sure we'll all survive the movie.

Yeah, the whole reason Sherlock was the **** is because he out-WITTED people. He didn't need to fight them.

Posted by: Antonio on May 6, 2009 at 12:00:55

mmm I think that the movie will be kick-ass and let me tell you that I myself am a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan and I know he originally wasn't much of a man of action physically talking, though he did somo fights in two or three stories...
But anyway, I think that if you are true SH fans then you should give it a chance since it's a different take. Plus, is it me or RDJ resembles Hugh Laurie a little? it wouldn't be that impossible since SH remains very alike DH

Never seen a guy ritchie film, cept for some of that smoking barrels? or something...but...

I do want to see this flick. i hope it is well made. I'm not a Sherlock fan, never have been...think he's boring.

Yet, this take i might like.

****

not true. Holmes was actually a very skilled fighter in the books. It's true he didn't do much fighting, but, (IIRC) he was skilled in some form of Asian or Russian wrestling.

Question for SHH:

Why does this site give us updates on Sherlock Holmes, but not on Star Trek?

Not complaining, just wondering. It would be nice to see updates on what's most likely going to be the big movie of the spring.

Posted by: Honest Fan on May 6, 2009 at 13:45:13

Sherlock Holmes is a superhero... his super-power is his super-brain. This movie will be a fun, reinvisioning of this famous character.

If you don't like it, don't see it. Also,... don't waste space giving your opinion on these boards. Thanks.

Honest Fan:

Sorry to embarass you by pointing this out, you'll see when you read my post that I was "not complaining". You'll also see that I was not expressing an opinion at all, simply posing a question. Take a Midol.

And if you think Holmes is a superhero, this flick must be the first time you've heard of the character. He's a fictional detective that originated in a number of novels by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the 19th century. He is not super-powered, nor superhumanly intelligent. Hmm, come to think of it, I'm actually not sorry to embarass you.

You're right about one thing. This movie will be fun. But I promise you will be disappointed if you go into it expecting a superhero movie.

One of the producers has said the intellect will take a backseat to the action. They're turning him into Batman. Nobody else finds it strange that this was announced right after the Dark Knight did great at the B.O.?

Posted by: mojojackson on May 6, 2009 at 15:18:51

I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case. I don't mind if Guy Ritchie makes him a more physically formidable character, but if they go for action over intellect, they'll really cheapen Holmes.

Posted by: No **** Sherlock on May 6, 2009 at 18:31:53

Funny,.. the guy behind Downey actually looks like Holmes. heh.

Posted by: :) on May 6, 2009 at 21:27:38

I have to agree with 'No **** Sherlock'
The guy behind RDJ is closer to Sherlock physically than RDJ... RDJ is a great actor, but seems miscast.

Posted by: Emilius on May 7, 2009 at 07:59:06

Doesn't the guy in the back ressemble the late Jeremy Brett, who did such a great portrayal of Holmes in the Granada series of the 80s and early 90s?

Posted by: Tony_Drake on May 7, 2009 at 12:51:56

The Guy behind RDJ is Mark Strong. He does look more sherlockian than Downey Jnr.

Thank you for answering my question, SHH! :)

Oh, waitaminute....:(

"don't waste space giving your opinion on these boards. Thanks."

That is the stupidest comment i have ever seen on any board in my life. It's amazing, i applaude you.

This board is for writing your opinion. God what an idiot.
