Christian Bale on the Third Batman Movie
Source:Chris
April 28, 2009
Total Film talked to Christian Bale about the follow-up to The Dark Knight. Here's an excerpt:
"Will we do a third movie? It's got to be the right story. You can't make something like 'The Dark Knight' and then come out with something disappointing.
"I would like it if people say, 'You'll never make a good third movie.' I say, 'OK, let's make a third movie in that case, let's prove them wrong. But that's just me. The fact is, I have to! I've signed up! Chris doesn't. So I'm in a bit of a fix if he says he doesn't want to!"
For more quotes, go here. Before he can start on a third movie, director Chris Nolan is first making the sci-fi action film Inception for Warner Bros.

I wonder...was he yelling at the interviewer?

I agree totally with Bale. If the story isn't at least as good as THE DARK KNIGHT, if not better, then I dont want to see a third one.And we all know if Mr. Nolan isnt attatched to the third one it just won't be the same.

As long as Bale is signed on, I don't care. I don't care if he's got anger issues, so does my father, some people are just like that. Hell, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Batman has anger issues too. My point is, Christian Bale puts on a good show. The man is the ONLY actor to have portraid Batman the way he was meant to be... Unless you count the voice actor from the animated series, he did a really good job.
I would like to see him fight some of his more difficult foes in the next movie. Maybe Killer Croc, or Bane... And we could have Ra's Al Gul behind their transformation... Yea, Ra's is definately my favorite Batman villain. I would love to see another showdown between the detective and the demons head on the big screen.

Yeah, Oklahoma fan, and my girlfriend was the other two people that didn't like the movie. I was slightly disappointed she couldn't appreciate it like I did. Point is, yeah you weren't alone.

It will tank if there's no joker. Riddler and The Penguin together would make it interesting.

just saying...now the other fanboys are entitled to make fun of me...

It's a very good point. X-Men 3 and Spider-man 3 were very dissapointing. I'm in Key West today.

I kind of would like to see the Nolan series of Batman stop at the Dark Knight. It would be cool to see where the characters would go, but The Dark Knight would be a good way to wrap up the Franchise.
Posted by: Jon on April 28, 2009 at 13:31:33
In any case I say Hugh Laurie as the Riddler.

I still think it'd be a big movie. Definately wouldn't do as well as DK, but let's back track for a minute. I think we've been spolied as far as the Batman movie franchise goes now. Schumaker ruined it and when I heard there was going to be another after "Batman & Robin" I though they had to be kidding. Nolan is now the man in charge and has done wonders, so let's keep than in mind. No matter how the 3rd Nolan Batman movie goes, it will never be as bad as the Schumaker crap...never.

I dread the third Batman movie as much as I dreaded Spidey 3. After such strgon installments as Spidey 2 (still #1) and TDK (a close #2), you're going to be disappointed.
Of course, I can't wait to hear the same fanboys who sing Nolan's praises crying out for a "REBOOT" if the 3rd film doesn't live up to expectations....losers.

Alessandro Nivola as Riddler
Josh Duhamel as Black Mask
Toby Jones as Penguin
Rober De'Niro as Rupert Thorn
Terry O'Quinn as Hugo Strange
Olga Kurylenko as Catwoman
Rhona Mitra as Talia Al Ghul
Andy Serkis as Mad Hatter
Taylor Momsen as Harley Quinn (give her a few years)
Daniel Day Lewis as The Ventriloquist

I think it would be hard to give the movie a villain that can top the Joker in crazy, there was no reasoning with the Joker, was pure chaos, and I don't think penguin/riddler/freez etc. could deliver a big enough threat to push batman to his limits.
Posted by: Rodeorigo on April 28, 2009 at 13:39:54
(Yeah, new name...Ill stick with Rodrigo, lol.)
Evan Rachel Wood as Batgirl
Corey Sevier as Nightwing.
I guess this will mark the end of young Batman.Batman 4 will be middle aged Batman.

they shouldd have the black mask take over the mobs and hirer bane to get rid of batman meanwile tila al ghul is finishing her bad work

Hey I was the third person that hated the movie.
LOL...JK
It was a great crime thriller. The next one should be an action thriller. With the recent flu and biological terroist tactics, and germ warfare epidemics running about, maybe the next Batman adventure should focus on the recent "outbreak" saga in the comics. The villan of the piece is Gotham City itself in the aftermath of the terror brought about by the Joker and the foreshadow of life rebirthed after its own destruction prophecized by Ra's Al Ghul. Hopefully it will be a Batman where Bale is in cape and cowl the entire time. Since he has chosen to take the mantle of the "DARK KNIGHT", there should be no Bruce Wayne. No extravagance whatsoever. Have the Bat live in the caves and use the alleys, poor and underdeveloped housing areas, and ghettos of Gotham as his base of operations. Make him resort to being a "gritty detective" with only those survival skills so he can reclaim being a hero right as Gotham is rebuilt. Gordon will still be his alley but just as aware that the Bat is on edge and he can turn at any point. Just an idea or 3.

and I know its not a very popular idea, but I personally think the one story element that could still be interesting would be ....Robin....

trying to top TDK will be quite a hard thing to do
Posted by: BatFrigginTastic on April 28, 2009 at 13:45:47
Remove Christian Bale? Are you nuts? He's the best Batman ever to grace the big screen. Some movie series actually get better as they progress. Like Star Wars 4, 5, and 6. As long as Nolan is doing a third, then it's gonna be awesome.
And I have to agree. Bring on either Bane or Clayface. Time to let Batman really unleash his fighting skills in the next one
Posted by: yung mikeirch on April 28, 2009 at 13:46:50
TDK was the greatest movie last year and to not have Nolan doing it would be a disgrace to the movie but 4 da movie villian I would like 2 c Clayface. I think that Eric Bana would play him good. Da just better get on dis b4 2012 cumz around.
Posted by: tonny on April 28, 2009 at 13:55:27
i would like too see the third batman a bit differint and i hope that christian bale returns that man is batman in every way...

The one exception I can think of to the "Third movie stinks" rule is Indiana Jones, where I felt the third movie was a good as the first. the fourth, on the other hand, was a disappointment.
What makes this version of Batman superior is the realistic tone taken with the films, so Clayface wouldn't work. I also do NOT want to see Riddler. Too similar to Joker, in that you have someone who "plays" with Batman and finds the evil things he does to be amusing.
So far we have had the "clean up Gotham by killing it" plot, and the "kill stuff because I'm a homicidal maniac" plot. How about a straight forward "greed" plot, with lots of twists and turns, using Batman's detective ability?

BM4. I think.Black Mask,Penguin and Scarface should be at eachothers throats.Bane is working with the rebuilt League of Shadows and has a mission to add fuel to the fire by playing the gangsters off against eachother in secret, doing everything he can to start a gang war.In the end, Bane has suceeded in igniting the war and defeats Batman,so Gotham is on the verge of collapse.
BM5 should be like Broken City.Batman with the help of Batgirl and Nightwing battle to take control of the chaos and take back the city and Batman must gave the final showdown with Ras and Talia.
BM6.Gotham City is barely recovering, when Bane breaks out the inmates at Arkham and Joker pushes Batman to the ultimate limit, him and Harley put guns to Nightwing and Batgirls head,Joker holds a detonator and he threatens to blow up Gotham City and the only way Batman can stop him, is Joker forcing Batman to shoot him.
BM6...well something like TDKR and Bryond right?

I think the best roles for Bale would be either a mannequin or a robot. Anything that would involve having the same expression on his face or speaking in a mono-toned voice. At least until he acts like a jacka$$ to the back stage crew.

Speaking of casting and film ideas I can only come up with some.
If Bane as hired muscle were to be introduced early in the film...I see wrestler Batista as the guy
As far as direction: Marc Forster (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, GreenLantern(upcoming), as a great director should Chris Nolan walk away from directors chair.
