Zac Efron Confirmed for Jonny Quest
Source:L.A. Times

After months of rumors, it's finally been confirmed that "High School Musical" star Zac Efron has signed on to play the title role in Warner Bros.' planned live-action version of the popular '60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon show Jonny Quest.

L.A. Times' "Hero Complex" got the confirmation but mentions that Warner Bros. have been considering changing the name of the property to avoid the inevitably negative comparisons to Warner Bros.' flop Speed Racer, another live action movie based on a popular cartoon.

There's no word on who might be directing although previous rumors have pegged the team of Andy Fickman and Dwayne Johnson possibly reuniting for the third time after the recent Race to Witch Mountain.

You can read the entire story over at Hero Complex.

Changing the name to avoid comparisons to Speed Racer? That doesn't even make the tiniest bit of sense. Just make the movie right or don't make it at all please.

It's Zac, not Zak.

And, I'm kind of excited!

That's going be good for the movie Johnny Quest. :+)

Speed Racer didn't flop because it was called Speed Racer. It was just an awful idea. The cartoon sucked, how could the movie possibly not suck.

The funny thing is that there were certain people who years ago thought that Efron might play Speed Racer before Emile Hirsch got the role... personally I think Efron would have been better. Efron's got talent and charm... I really believe that he's the next Tom Cruise (in a good way).

JP are you a middle school girl? That is the only demographic I can see being excited by this news. Looks like I will have to wait for The Hardy Men for a good movie based on an old property. Noting else seems really appealing on the re-make front at the moment.

don juan the contraction of the words HE and IS is he's, not his.

Posted by: JP on April 13, 2009 at 00:04:52

acslaterson, no I'm not a middle school girl. Am I 20 year old comic book loving, anime watching nerd who happens to think Zac Efron has some talent. Go watch Hairspray (amazing film) or read the reviews for 17 Again.

so is the rock ever gonna make action films anymore LOL

is his Disney's ***** or something LOL

Posted by: JP on April 13, 2009 at 00:08:17

I don't understand the hate for Efron, but the love for Shia Lefluff? I mean, they both came from the same place except that Efron made musicals, and Shia made ****ty action movies.

Posted by: acslaterson on April 13, 2009 at 00:11:10

JP, I just haven't met to many comic nerds that like musicals and movies aimed particularly aimed at the teenage female crowd. I don't think I have seen anything the kid has been in. He annoys me because he is an emo and that stupid video of his pool party on Funny or Die was terrible.

i wonder who is going to be HAJI lol.

Posted by: JP on April 13, 2009 at 00:14:48

Yes, I know I'm a rarity. My two favorite genres of films are comic book movies, and musicals.

I'm weird, I know.

To each his own buddy.

Seriously, all the "20 year old comic book loving, anime watching nerds" posting in this article about how "talented" and "Hot" Efron is , are obviously a bunch of horny high school girls who wet themselves every time they see a commercial for The Jonas Brothers movie. Us REAL comic book loving, anime watching nerds know.

Shia LeBouf makes good action movies.

Posted by: JP on April 13, 2009 at 00:24:30

Except he doesn't. :(

zac efron is a tool, used to gather money from the parents of little girls who are entranced by his mediocre looks, singing, and acting. zac efron, like all the other temporary teenage heart-throbs, dumbs down america

Saw Efron on SNL...kid's got promise...who cares if he was in a musical? seriously, cut the testosterone guys...it's just weak and makes you seem like an elitist...however, if you don't like Efron because you just don't like him...I can respect that, but don't hate him for what he has done, talent spans many areas. LoL FLAME ON! seriously though I meant that with respect, to each his own as Ast said.

NOOOOOOO Zac stay out of this it isn't a musical or a 'tween comedy

Posted by: THEBAT on April 13, 2009 at 00:43:34

oh!!!! and not only is don jauntabe a homophobic biotch..he can't differentiat between than and then!hahaha what a dumb a$$!

Posted by: CaptainStacy on April 13, 2009 at 00:48:34

So they're not even CALLING it Johnny Quest?

This project's a joke.

Posted by: BigO on April 13, 2009 at 00:50:48

I agree, he's a an ok actor, though I would myself pick someone else to be Johnny quest, he's not a horrible choice. They are out to make money and putting him in it is a guarantee gold mine. So im sure there will be some "Johnny Quest fans" (if you really considered yourself that before this post) that will be upset at putting a pretty boy that draws in women, but im sure the millions of dollars they bring in from it wont upset the company making it.
