Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana in The Losers
April 2, 2009
Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana (upcoming Star Trek & Avatar) are in negotiations to be part of The Losers, Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures' adaptation of the Vertigo/DC Comics book. Sylvain White is directing.
The actors will join Jeffrey Dean Morgan for the action film, which follows a Special Forces team betrayed by its handler and left for dead. The "losers" regroup in the interest of revenge, the opportunity to remove their names from a secret CIA death list and to conduct covert operations against the CIA and its interests.
Elba will play a character named Roque, the group's scarred second-in-command who is motivated by money. Saldana will be Aisha, a cold-blooded loose cannon.
Peter Berg and James Vanderbilt worked on the script.

Were you ever inspired by a movie that caused you to change your life?
I was. Here is my story.
When I saw “The Lion King” in the cinemas for the first time, I started to tear up when I heard the sad, melancholy song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” I didn’t care much for the lyrics, but the beat and tone of the song was just downright sad. During the song, I started to think about all the bad things that I did in my life. One of them was making fun of this kid that used to be in my 4th grade class. His name was Amir.
Amir would always stuff his entire pelvic region into a urinal when peeing. This was done, obviously, to protect himself from anyone that wanted to see his shamefully small penis. When doing this move to conceal his privates, he would look like a sideways V (like this:

I would constantly make fun of him for doing this, and the fellow boys using the urinals, some of whom stood about half a foot to a foot away from the urinal when peeing, would laugh at him. Amir would just brush it off as nothing and he would smile throughout the entire ordeal. When we were all done peeing, Amir would be the only boy to wash his hands. Again, we would all make fun of him for doing that as everyone else would walk out of the restroom without washing our hands.
Well, when I heard that sad song in “The Lion King,” I became a new man. I became better because of the sad lyrics, and they really softened my hardened ways. So I went home and called up Amir. I told him that he was always a good friend and that I never meant to make fun of him. I cried and he heard it. He told me that he liked me as well and thought of me as one of his BEST friends. I lost it.
I then told Amir if he would like to go peeing together for old times sake. So we did. This time, I stuffed my entire crotch inside of the urinal, like him, to show Amir that I was in solidarity with him and that his actions were nothing to be ashamed up, but embraced. After we were done peeing, we washed our hands together. As we left the restroom, I felt that Amir, this kid that I used to make fun of my entire life, had always been, and still currently is my best friend. Isn’t it amazing how movies can transform your life?

Dude? What's with the obsession about Amir and The Lion King? We're supposed to be talking about "The Losers," a movie that no one gives a damn about.

Probably Sylvain White thinks there are not enough roles for black actors in Hollywood, so he's casting black people as characters of different races in the book. While I'm okay for Elba as Roque, being a middle eastern woman was a strong feature in Aisha's characterization, a strong back story.

I think Zoe Zaldana is sexy as hell. I'm hoping "Star Trek" and "The Losers" will launch her career into the stratosphere.
