John Malkovich Set for Jonah Hex
Source:Variety
February 12, 2009

John Malkovich will square off against Josh Brolin in Jonah Hex, the Warner Bros. adaptation of the DC Comics property that begins production in April.

Legendary Pictures has joined the project as co-financier and co-producer.

Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger.

Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) is directing the script by Crank screenwriters Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

EXCELLENT!!!
Malkovich is a great director from theater and a good actor.
I saw him in mexico a few days ago.

Yay Lennie the r-tard is gonna face off against dubbya...and to top it all off, its got the pulitzer prize authors of crank behind it...how much will this movie blow?

Oh, great, another movie ruined by that guy. What exactly is he famous for anyway? And why is he considered a great actor? Everything I've seen him in he doesn't even bother to act. He always says his lines in that same bored tone, no matter what character or emotion he's playing. And I thought he didn't like comic book movies because they weren't what he considered "art".

don't you whiners get tired of yourselves? this movie sounds cool and is backed by great actors. i hope the naysayers get a heart attack soon from all their high blood pressure.

Well I hope this movie turns out good but I got to be honest I hate actors that only have one voice like this one. Ex... Christopher Walken, Samuel L. Jackson.

Plus I wished Thomas Jane was the Main Character. The Pick of him was awesome and looked right for the part.

Hell yes, this is AWESOME news~!!!! :D

Anyone know if they are gonna keep the supernatural themes of the books?

Posted by: Lone Power Ranger on February 12, 2009 at 10:59:28

Perhaps Jonah Hex comics are known in some circles and I bet is good, but if this people don't have a kick ass script, then I bet this is going to be a big time failure.

Posted by: hypestyle on February 12, 2009 at 11:18:07

will they attempt to make Hex handsome? in the comics, he is not..

Posted by: Andrew on February 12, 2009 at 11:52:29

Retribution comes at a cost......

That price will be paid.

Posted by: Andrew on February 12, 2009 at 11:55:09

The talent attached seems to indicate the script. Should be good.

Posted by: Andrew on February 12, 2009 at 12:00:01

How much will it blow?

Or blow-back?

Just don't stand in front of the business end of those twin revolvers.

this is good news. Hex and Turnbull seem to be well cast with quality acotrs. Malkovich is especially good in just about any movie he does. Brolin is quality too.

Now, too the fine folks at the DC/WB DON'T SCREW IT UP!

strength and honor lads

Don't know enough about Jonah Hex to care about this news. But I do know that they're not taking him seriously enough to give him a director that hasn't directed actual people.

Posted by: Methos on February 12, 2009 at 12:47:52

AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Eric on February 12, 2009 at 12:54:00

Crank sucked... really, really sucked. I cannot believe they made a sequal.
Brolin will be a bad a$$ Hex

Posted by: reek on February 12, 2009 at 13:36:25

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Without adding at least some of the occult or sci-fi elements from some of the Hex comics, they're going to end up doing a crappy remake of The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Judging by the great cast of Coen brothers alumni announced so far, this film hasn't gone wrong yet.

"Not taking him serious enough to give him a director that HASN'T directed actual people?"

What you talk'n bout' Willis?

Posted by: abe on February 12, 2009 at 21:24:19

i dislike malkovich, but even that isn't going to stop me seeing this movie.
i cannot wait to see some footage/images.

Sounds interesting, but I seemed to remember Malkovich tried out for the Green Goblin once.
He decided it wasn't his kind of part, now Jonah Hex isn't your typical superhero comic.
But it's still based in a comic book.
He seemed to not like the idea once upon a time:
"But those sort of films aren't art films, they're business propositions." quote from 2000.
So now he wants to do one, hmmm?
Well he did do Con-Air so go figure.
