Brett Ratner to Direct Youngblood

February 8, 2009
Reliance Big Entertainment has acquired Rob Liefeld's iconic graphic novel "Youngblood" for Brett Ratner to direct, reports Variety.
The company paid mid six figures for the rights to "Youngblood," about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the U.S. government.
"Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and 'Youngblood' is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential," Ratner told the trade. "It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted ('Youngblood'), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they're able to move."
Reliance has also acquired the rights to French graphic novel "Fly Wires" for Ratner's Rat Entertainment.
The project, which will be renamed Infinity, will be produced by Ratner, who has already tapped Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard) to direct and John Collee ("Master and Commander") to write the script.
Both projects are being fast-tracked, although no decision has been made on whether they will eventually land at Paramount.

Crappy director directing a crappy movie based on a crappy comic by a crappy artist who also happens to be a crappy writer. Should be great!

In response to Mike Hills comment. It's almost like they were made for each other eh?
Posted by: that wasn't jim lee? on February 8, 2009 at 23:20:28
I'm confused - was that not Jim Lee's comic book? That looks exactly like WILDCATS by Jim Lee - also an IMAGE comic book...i'm confused b/c i think i have youngblood #1 or #0 but can't remember it at all (prolly cuz it sucked) but i feel like its almost exactly the same as WILDCATS but crappier - and the artwork looks like jim lee!

Well, I'll be sure to add that to my list of movies I will never see.

I wish they'd stop giving things to Ratner.

LOL
What an amazing match up. Comic's most hated creator and "superhero movie's" most hated director. Maybe the combined suckness will cancel eachother out and this movie will turn out to be good.

Brett Ratner's a crappy director and I don't really remember YOUNGBLOOD being a "great graphic novel", so no excitement here for this project. I am interested in ow he does Badrock.
Posted by: iDocta on February 8, 2009 at 23:31:11
uhmm.. Why? This is a bad idea.. I read and liked the comics yea but anyone remember when they tried to launch the animated series.. That never saw the light of day.. I even remembered seeing the previews for it. How is this going to be any different lol

At least it keeps him too busy to destroy a real franchise

Loved the inital run of this comic in '91. Looking forward to seeing Shaft, Diehard and Chapel on the big screen.
This movie will live and die by the decision that Ratter takes with Badrock. Go rubber like the big suit Liefeld lugged to every comic convention in the 90's and it flops - go CGI and its got a better chance at success.

Who let Ratner get his hands on another beloved comic book property? For all we know this film will star Chris Tucker and Youngblood with have Grifter in it from WildC.A.T.S.

You are all a bunch of PU$$ies!!!
First of Youngblood was drawn by
Rob liefeld. not Jim Lee...
2nd; Brett is a awsome director his version of x3 was better than that(comic book-movie hack) fudge packin Singer...... Especially with Superman... I mean all the x titles were great X2 & 3 being the best.
X3 had more action and didn't drag it's feet...
3rd- Most of you have to be failed fanboy hack directors... because you have a lot of hate for Ratner and Bay..
It's quite obvious that they are good at what the do cause the studios always back them financially and ya'll are broke on your ass living in moms' basement... next to her washer/dryer wit cho draws in em'..
I know the writing for young blood was a little crappie... but i think this could work big time with the right script.....
IMO i think they should do
"WET WORKS"
PS. and wildcats was Great and could make a better movie...FINGERS X

For the record, Youngblood was the FIRST Image book and was not done by Jim Lee. Why would they report otherwise?!?
In regard to the movie, I thought it would have happened by now, so maybe since all of us have seen the good, the bad and the ugly of comic book movies, they will work harder to make an awesome flick, after seeing what has and what hasn't worked. More X2, less Daredevil.
Youngblood was never about great characters but, looked amazing style-wise. So, they should hire a kick ass writer to flesh these roles out and make us care about them on the screen. They gotta make it better than Spawn!
Congrats to Rob Liefeld. Hopefully, this will be a cool, fun movie that will start a great series of films.
