New Thor Character Rumor
January 4, 2009
How exactly does Marvel's God of Thunder Thor come to earth in preparation for The Avengers? IESB.net might have the answer. The site says:
A reliable source tells the IESB that the character of Donald Blake has been added to the end of the script. Let me reiterate that he wasn't there before, the script was set entirely in the land of the Norse Gods.
The introduction of the character is essential to how Marvel will tie Thor into the Avengers that is set in contemporary Tony Stark/Hulk timeframe. It explains how the actual Thor film will be set in the ancient time of the Norse Gods and how they will subsequently bring the character into a modern time with Donald Blake discovering the magical Norse hammer Mjolnir and turning into Thor.
The site adds that Thor director Kenneth Branagh will have an acting part in the film as well.
Thor is coming to theaters on July 16, 2010 and The Avengers a year later on July 15, 2011.

I think the whole movie should be about how Donald Blake and Thor became one. If this movie is set for the most part in the ancient realm of the Norse gods, then it won't seem like a superhero movie. It'll seem more like a period piece, like Troy or something. That's not good.

Im not familiar at all with Thor, but does this mean there will be 2 different characters? One from the past in the other world and the other one Donald Blake on Earth, played by 2 different actors?

i always thought they could use the explosion at the end of iron man as a way to introduce him. when the reactor gets blown up all the energy or whatever it is gets shot into the sky, i think that could be a starting point

Can't wait to see this 1 but it will be tricky to make it fit a realistic timeline like Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk.

This is going to be a great movie and i can't wait. For those of you who think Kenneth Branagh is not the right man for this job then you need go and watch some of his Shakespeare movie. He is a very talented director and I think he will be very truthful to the source material.

WRONG. This is all wrong. If they're doing the whole "believable universe" thing, then they should stick to the Ultimate version of Thor (at least in storyline).
You could have the Ultimate Thor with a blending of character designs. This worked in Iron Man, for instance, where Tony Stark outs himself as Iron Man...the same as in the Ultimates.
There's no law that says you can't have the two versions blend together for the movie's sake. I'm getting a little scared over this project, but we won't really know for sure until it starts production and we can see what they're doing.

They only have about 18 months before it's released. They should probably y'know, start shooting. Or at least casting.
I'm betting on a delay until December 2010.
Any takers?

That is in fact the BEST way to handle it. Thor has always been strongest and most interesting when he is in Asgard. Doing the movie in Asgard with him coming to earth at the end gets my FULL support. Now if only they remain faithfull to the look/costume of Thor and the design of Asgard, Odin and the other Gods,....

I don't see this picture as being kinda good or kinda bad... This is either going to be a massive failure, or phucking EPIC!

I disagree. I think the fact that it will be more mythology based will only attract more viewers because that's what makes Thor appealing anyway. More people are interested in mythology than comic book superheroes and Thor will bring the best of both worlds. I think it's a smart move and probably the best way to do it. When most people hear Thor, they know the Norse God of Thunder, not the Marvel superhero. I bet a lot of new Thor fans will be made because of the movie.

This will suck big time and will not be ready in 18 months if they haven't even shot a scene yet. Get ready for a real flop.

I disagree with fabboiii. Comics are the new mythology and at this point in time the masses would rather see a superhero than an ancient being any day. I think Troy proved that. But all that said it's Ultimate version or cheese verion

Sounds good, let's do it.

Good move. A whole EPIC Asgard Thor movie bringing the mainstream to actually invest themselves into a character first. The Mainstream understands Epic Fantasy more than they understand Faithful Comic Book Adaptations. Then, when The Avengers comes around and makes history (either for good reasons or bad reasons depending on the decisions made from here on out) the Mainstream will know Thor from this movie. It's actually a great idea.

The only way they're going to tie this in with the recent Marvel films is to bring Thor's mortal alter ego into the mix. Perhaps the writers will set Dr. Donald Blake up as a former associate of Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, or perhaps even Tony Stark's personal physician. In any case, it will be interesting to see how they work Dr. Blake into the Marvel's Cinematic Universe!
(Who knows? Blake could have even interned with a certain Dr. Steven Strange!)
Oh the possibilities!

cannot wait for these 2 movies. Thor is gonna kick ass

Daniel Craig for Thor... he has the acting chops to pull this off.... Even though he turned this role down, having him play the hammer wielding/blond hair flailing norse god is a no-brainer.. he looks the part as well...
