Stephen Chow Might Not be Kato Either?
Source:The Associated Press
December 23, 2008

Late last week, it was announced that Stephen Chow had dropped out as director of Columbia Pictures' The Green Hornet but that he would still play Kato in the comic book adaptation.

Now, however, that is still up in the air as well as Chow tells The Associated Press that he may not have time to star as Kato, the character made famous by Bruce Lee.

Chow, whose credits include Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, said over the weekend that he wants to free up time to work with Jack Black on a comedy about a superhero.

"If I direct 'The Green Hornet,' the superhero comedy will have to be delayed for two years," Chow said. "The timing might not be right for a superhero comedy in two years. And I want to make a movie based on an original idea."

Chow said whether he stays on to play Kato in The Green Hornet depends on his schedule.

Find an unknown to play Kato. Chow's being a little primadonna, let him fail with a Jack Black 'original' comedy, which always suck ...

Posted by: Red Wolf on December 23, 2008 at 11:55:04

Movie is Bombing before they even make it...

Posted by: screenamesuck on December 23, 2008 at 11:55:40

LOL "original", I just can't see Black doing anything original anymore

Posted by: Yodaman on December 23, 2008 at 11:56:09

Yeah...originality sucks. Lets have them churn out the same damn thing again and again for the masses.

::eyeroll::

Posted by: j-schu on December 23, 2008 at 11:57:08

ouch...Seth was already reaching on this project as it is.

Posted by: marantaz on December 23, 2008 at 12:01:12

Nothing wrong with originality, just Blacks humor... with him at the helm, sucking results.... "Nacho Libre" ring a bell?

Posted by: Ernie Reyes, Jr. on December 23, 2008 at 12:04:06

I should play Kato.

Posted by: dansmith on December 23, 2008 at 12:13:04

Good, he's too good to be in garbage that seth rogen has a hand in making.

Posted by: guy on couch on December 23, 2008 at 12:15:11

if you are really Ernie Reyes Jr you should soooooo be the next kato!

Posted by: mike on December 23, 2008 at 12:16:05

Green Hornet movie with Seth Rogan... Fail. Unfunny superhero movie with Jack Black.... Fail.

Posted by: sadmamba on December 23, 2008 at 12:23:29

@ ERNIE REYES JR.

NO! you should play krillin in Dragonball movie

Posted by: afr52 on December 23, 2008 at 12:25:13

This Green Hornet movie is getting worse by the day. If Columbia is smart it will bail on this movie pronto. I know I have...

Posted by: Gravedigger on December 23, 2008 at 12:28:34

I still am a firm believer that anything Seth Rogen is involved with turns to gold, so I'm not giving up on this film yet!

Posted by: comicfan1129 on December 23, 2008 at 12:41:05

THANK GOD!!! Now if Seth Rogen goes we can have a chance at a decent movie. No Green Hornet is better than a spoof one.

Posted by: Steven Seagal on December 23, 2008 at 12:50:51

I'm in talks right now to replace Chow as Kato. Also, **** you Ernie Reyes, Jr. Wait until they make a Surf Ninjas sequel.

Posted by: chilipalmer on December 23, 2008 at 12:52:56

maybe Jack Black should play Kato, and Rogen should play Black's arch nemesis the "Lame Idea Man"

Both these guys are not good for super hero movies.

Well....Jack Black might make an okay villian such as Mad Hatter or Toy Man. But never mind.

All in all, bad ideas from Rogen and Black.

strength and honor lads.

Seriously? Who chooses Jack Black nowadays over Seth Rogen?

'Zack and Miri Make a Porno' and 'Pineapple Express' are already cult favorites. Black was annoying in 'Tropic Thunder', a cartoon charactor in 'Kung Fu Panda' and the last thing he did before that was 'the Holiday', which I have no idea how he even got cast in that. Must have gotten stoned and just showed up at the wrong set and figured "what the hell, I'm here, might as well be in a romantic comedy".

Yeesh.

@ Xander - amen brother. Zack and Pineapple are both funny as hell.

Steven Seagal be nice to Ernie Reyes, Jr. I'm a big fan of Ernie. I know about his father Ernie Reyes, Sr. who taught him Karate and he also did the Martial Arts choreography for Street Fighter the live action film, blockbuster in 1994. Today, is Street Fighter: The Movie's 15th birthday anniversay the day it debuted 15 years ago on December 23, 1994. Ernie Reyes, Sr. Steve Ernie Reyes, Sr. also played Akuma in the Street Fighter movie Arcade and console games and he looked great in 24 bit color on a 32 graphic game for the Saturn and Playstation.

Sadmamba, Do you seriously, see Ernie Reyes, Jr. playing Krillin Goku's best friend in the upcoming Dragonball film in March of 2009. Justin Chatwin is playing Goku and he looks great in costume and character. Ernie Reyes, Jr. I think could play Krillin or Tien the Kungfu guy in the series. Ernie was in Surf Ninjas with Rob Schneider but he also starred in, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Secret of The Ooze as Keno, he was in 1985's black Enter The Dragon version "The Last Dragon" with Taimek, Denise Katrina Matthews (Vanity) and the late great Julius J. Carry III.

Just as long as they get a martial artist and make decent "authentic" martial arts scenes then I'll be happy.
Since Chow won't be on board (unfortunately) then they should get Donnie Yen or Wu Jing.

Anyway, I'm trying to be positive about this, but the film doesn't sound promising. Since Chow left it should be a clear sign that they are looking for another "quick-buck" cookie-cutter-flick that will be goofy and lame.

I'm glad Chow left.
At least back in the original series they let Bruce Lee actually do some nice fight scenes.

I'm sad to hear that Stephen Chow has turned down Kato in the upcoming Green Hornet movie. Stephen is a fantastic actor but, I own KungFu Hustle and he looks exactly like Bruce Lee in the film. I haven't seen Shaolin Soccer but I bet it is an epic action film. Stephen Chow would make a fantastic Feilong you know guys and girls the popular Bruce Lee icon from Street Fighter. "You must learn to block, or my speed will alway's overcome you". Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers, Super Street Fighter II: Turbo and Super Street Fighter II HD Remix. Hey everyone, did you guys know that Udon's upgraded Super Street Fighter II game sold 250,000 copies in a months time it hasn't even been a year that game is going to make gold as well as, next year's Street Fighter 4 game. SF 4 was nominated as the best fighting game of all time at the E3 awards. Following, that was Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, and Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. Ed Boone, the Mortal Kombat game series director and sponser for the Mortal Kombat films said, at a website that he is interested in doing a Mortal Kombat VS. Street Fighter crossover video game. I think, Capcom would be very interested in working with two early decade years of the two oldest fighting games that have ever been made. I am interested Ed, make MK VS. SF the fans will be overjoyed from this. Scorpion and Subzero VS. Ken Masters and Ryu Hoshi. Let the battle begin.

Oh well- That would have been good if Chow directed, and starred. It would have been even better if he produced Green Hornet with an unknown in the lead. As it stands, I'm glad he's doing something original. Imagine how sucky things would be if Mike Mignola chose not to create an original property (Hellboy) and instead just worked for Marvel and DC?

That's right seaguhhhl! Go ahead and be the "sidekwick". You've played that part well with rappers.

I think everyones missing the big picture here. The main star of course, will be ME! for I am the green hawwnet!

Kato will be played by me as well. Using state of the art camera techniques not used since DOUBLE IMPACT

in fact, i'am so famous this movie will be renamed DOUBLE TEAM IMPACT 2: THE UNIVERSAL GREEN HORNET or D.T.I.2:T.U.G.H for short

prepware for the daaamage

Chow is not going to ruin the KATO movie with his following in China with it being a spoof. He is smart to get out of it so he doesn't have to answer the "how could you ruin a Bruce Lee cult favorite?" questions he would get bombarded with for the rest of his life. If you cant see that then you don't know your history or are too blinded by the next coming of movies like trainspotting to get a clue
