Green Light for New Judge Dredd Movie
December 20, 2008
Rebellion and 2000 AD have announced that a new Judge Dredd movie is in development.
Together with DNA Films, the movie production company behind such films as Danny Boyle's Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later, Judge Dredd will go into production in 2009.
Jason Kingsley, CEO and Creative Director said, "We can't give away too many details at this point, but we're looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen."

I AM THE LAW!!!!!!!!!
Who else can say that the same way as Sylvester Stallone did? On the call sheet for the role of Dredd, it should require a speech impediment so that actor gets it right.

Now this is a movie that might be up Frank Miller's alley......the comics are dark already.

Who or what is DNA films? I never heard of that production company. Hopefully this new movie won't be put together under a small budget and go straight to DVD. Oh yeah, I didn't even think the first movie was bad at all.

@N1GHTW1NG
The article just explained what DNA Films is, and the CEO of that company said they're releasing it to the big screen, so it won't be direct-to-DVD.

Jack Uzi should play Dredd and Al Ergy should play Rico. Oh yeah, and Tom Ato should play Ephram Fargo. Leave it Alone!

*Yawwwwwwnnnnn*
I hope my enthusiasm changes for the sake of good film. Because, except for Marvel's melee of this last years and the upcoming slate, comic films are a toss up!

only if they brinb back Stallone. Dammit.

This could potentially be cool, except I think it might fail for the same reasons Punisher War Zone failed. I loved Punisher War Zone but the memory of the 2004 movie was still too fresh in everyone's mind. The reason the majority of average moviegoers didn't go see it is because they thought it was a sequel to the 2004 movie, which virtually nobody liked.
I think a lot of people will mistakenly think the same thing about this new Judge Dredd, they'll think it's a sequel to the one with Stallone and, unfortunately, not go see it.
I could be wrong though, it happens....not often mind you, but it does happen, lol

Wow, Hollywood is grasping at any thing in a costume or spandex! Stick to the main heroes, guys and gals, and forget the hosers. Stallone toasted this character already. Do something new. I would even take Aquaman over this one! All the rage is "going dark". Ok, how about they re-do Spawn then and go R rated and tear it up!

Straight to DVD, meaning it sucks bad and goes to DVD quick, like most bad movies.
That's what he meant.
But yeah, we shall see...

You make no damn sense whatsoever.
"Wow, Hollywood is grasping at any thing in a costume or spandex! Stick to the main heroes, guys and gals, and forget the hosers."
Obviously you're not from the UK, 2000 AD has been popular over there for more than 30 years. Guess what, Americans aren't the only people producing comic books, and this is a British film company anyway.
"Do something new... Ok, how about they re-do Spawn then and go R rated and tear it up!"
So, reboot flash-in-the-pan Spawn, but not Judge Dredd? You contradicted yourself in the same friggin' paragraph, man.
I just made a post earlier today asking when we'd see a proper Dredd flick, and I'm happy to see this coming to fruition. Hopefully they'll keep it closer to the comics than Stallone's effort, but still improve a few of the aesthetics (the movie Lawgiver was so much cooler than the designs in the comic!)

Am I the only one that remembers 2 JD films were going to be made like 4 years ago? On eo fhem was going to prominantly feature Judge Death. My point is, I'll believe it when I'm sitting in a theater watching it.

It has my vote.

The only question I have is also the most important ;-)
Who is playing Psi Judge Anderson?
Seriously, I liked some things about the 90's one. They did 'justice' to his costume and Stallone played the part well enough - but he is one of those actors who is too well known for 'doing what he does best' and it's hard to bring a fictional character to life when you are such an established character yourself in real life. Second the whole plot revolving around turning things upside down - what does the 'law man' do when he has to see what it's like on the other side of the law? Trying to give him an 'arc' where he 'learns a valuable lesson'about humanity or something is missing the point. He is supposed to be like Punisher or Shaft or something. Pretty much the problem was that it was made by Hollywood for what they think a US audience wants to see. Hopefully a Britt Co can stay truer to the source. If the works of Terry Gilliam are any indication, they should do a smashing job;-)
He goes around handing out Bad-azzery oblivious to how single minded he is in his approach to justice. It's supposed to be a subtle dark humor, not an overanilyzid political statement. And a bit of compensatory catharsis for those of us who feel there is too little justice in the world. It's fun to see the scale tipped a bit too far the other way for 90min. I am an American fan and have only seen a few issues, but it would be cool to see a 'more realistic' overall approach as far as the directorial style, but maintain some surrealism in the extreme personalities of the characters (the vileness of criminals, the self ritcheousness of Dredd) and world setting (techno-advanced-yet-slummy dystopia). It would also be nice to have some real crime drama/mystery/sluthing to string together the explosions and car chases. He should be paired with a more 'straight' cop like Anderson for that Mulder/Scully, Tick/Arthur kind of fanatic/rational-normal (down-to-earth) person vibe but with a dry/ironic low-key/absurdist sense of humor to the proceedings.
Anyone from across the pond care to a-sess my a-sessment?

Well, they could make this really good.
I mean, change something about the character, i mean, Stallone did the part almost perfect (and the costume to) as Wile E. Comicguy - Super Genius said, but seriously, this needs some update to work on the big screen today i think.

Hope it keeps true to the character than what Sylvestor Stallone did to him in that god awful 1995 flick.

Jason Statham or Ray Stevenson for Dredd!!

I'm not sure how everyone else would feel about this. But, Judge Dredd isn't like Batman, where an actor who isn't that well known, like Christian Bale at the time, can just play the character have it work. Judge Dredd wasn't that bad of a movie. Stallone was cool. I like Stallone. But for me, I'm ok with a remake. However because the 1st had a top name & good actor, Stallone, the new one should too.
This Judge Dredd remake movie, sounds like a good Vin Diesel movie. I think Vin Diesel or at least Jason Staham should play Judge Dredd. I believe after Stallone, they just have to make this film with an established action movie actor, like Vin Diesel. Vin Diesel would be great.
That's just my 2 cents.
