Len Wiseman Helming Atlantis Rising
December 4, 2008
Len Wiseman has signed on to direct a big screen adaptation of the apocalyptic sci-fi comic book "Atlantis Rising" for DreamWorks Pictures, reports Variety.
Wiseman, who directed the first two "Underworld" films and Live Free or Die Hard, also recently signed on to helm another DreamWorks project: the thriller Motorcade.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing.
Created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, "Atlantis Rising" is a five-part miniseries published by Platinum Studios. The story kicks off when seismic disturbances at sea force world militaries to investigate the deepest part of the ocean, where an underground civilization emerges to engage in war with planet Earth.
Platinum Studios' Scott Mitchell Rosenberg is also producing. Randy Greenberg is executive producing.
Motorcade will likely move forward before Atlantis Rising.

I guess this will officially kill any attempts at a Namor movie
Posted by: Namor is the best on December 5, 2008 at 05:11:16
Yeah that's what I though too. I would rather have a nmor movie bu if this comes out it seems just too similar. Way to go Marvel. Waited so long that somebody is doing it first now.

A Namor movie would be cool, but as other posters here have mentioned, Marvel always takes way too long to bring their stories to the screen.
Back in the old days (30s up thru the 70s) movies didn't take 10-15 years to get off the ground like the Superhero movies do nowadays, where there are always tons of legal battles concerning licensing, ownership rights and franchise options. Not to mention the hiring and firing of multiple writers, producers, directors and distributors between the time the project is first ok'ed and when the film is actually released.
I swear, sometimes it takes longer for the wheels to get turning than the actual production of the film.

I've been hoping for a live action sci-fi movie based on Atlantis for years now, fascinating stuff. This is good news for me!

''Atlantis Rising'' sounds like a great idea for a movie.I agree with the rest of the posters on this thread, this should be a Namor the Sub-Mariner movie coming out from Marvel but Marvel dragged their feet too long and now if they ever do still put out a Namor movie it will probably be out long after Atlantis Rising comes out.And then a Namor movie will come across to younger viewers as being modeled after Atlantis Rising the same way the Fantastic Four movies came across to younger viewers and johnny-come- latelys as being modeled after The Incredibles even though it was other way around.Patience is a virtue but there is such a thing as waiting too long for things to happen and while it still isn`t too late for a Namor movie to come out(which I would love to see-Avi Arad had said that it would be like ''Star Wars under water'' due to the melding of science fiction and fantasy) I think Marvel should`ve made the film sooner rather than later.

To JonHammForGreenLantern:
Yes, yes and yes! I've been saying that ever since the Notebook guy rumours started up. Notebook guy is a fine actor, but he's not Hal Jordan. I think Jon Hamm is the PERFECT casting job for Hal Jordan and I won't be happy with anyone else, that's how perfect he is for the job.
