Marvel is Developing Animated Thor Series
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
November 15, 2008

Marvel Animation is developing and self-producing a 26 half-hour episode series based on its long-running comic book "Thor," with the series targeted to launch in fall 2010, following Marvel's live-action feature Thor, which hits theaters on July 16, 2010.

The animated series will follow Thor, the Norse god of thunder, as he defends his mythical home of Asgard against fantastical villains, fiendish hordes, winged creatures and angry giants. The show will take place in various worlds -- from mountainous landscapes to places of icy mists and fiery voids -- and will include many of the comic's supporting cast, including Balder the Brave, the Warriors Three and Thor's evil adopted brother, Loki.

Marvel president of animation Eric Rollman said the series is part of the company's plan to follow each live-action movie with an animated series and "offer a continued awareness in the marketplace."

Sa-Weet!! Been looking forward to more Thor related entertainment and now, Finally, we have it. First a Hulk (love Hulk) and Thor crossover and now Thor in his own movie AND animated series. I'm about to blow a meade load all over my Asgardian shorts. Very cool.

Would be really cool if they followed the new series and plopped Asgard right in the middle of the United States. The interaction of the Gods with the townsfolk make for some great side archs.

Thor has never had his on cartoon before. I don't think he has ever appeared in animation before recently so you could say it's about time.

The odds of it being something good are long, recent live-action work notwithstanding. Recall if you will, The Avengers, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, THe Silver Surfer, TWO decidedly less-than-Fantastic Four series (Herbie the Robot), Iron Man, and no doubt some I've blocked out. Let's just say they weren't good and leave it at that.

thor sucks and im a big marvel fan they need to focus on someone cooler like the inhumans or NAMOR i have been waiting for that movie forever. come on marvel there are all kinds of other cool characters lik silver surfer (etc) (etc).

I have to say I am looking forward to this project. I have been impressed with the recent animated movies Marvel has been making recently. Iron Man, Ultimate Avengers, Doctor Strange and even the Next Avengers have all been done very well. I hope the animation for Thor is better than the recent FF series.

The R-dale Cowboy;

-Thor's first appearance in television was in the segment "The Mighty Thor" of the syndicated, anthological animated television series The Marvel Super Heroes, originally syndicated in 1966.
-Thor's Donald Blake identity appeared in the 1980s Spider-Man episode "Wrath of the Sub-Mariner" voiced by Jack Angel.
-Thor appeared in an episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends titled "Vengeance of Loki" (1981/1982).]
-Thor guest stars in two episodes of the Fantastic Four animated series voiced by John Rhys-Davies.

I haven't bothered with Marvel 'toons since I was a kid but being a Thor fan... I think I might have to give this peek. Hope it's good, but then again with Marvel's track record with Animate shows post-90's...

Just hope they don't use that god-awful Japanese animation bull****.

Best cartoon related news I've heard in a long time. Easily.

Thor is one of the founding A-listers of the Marvel Universe, and when handled properly (as depicted, for example, during Walt Simonson's unparalleled run on the title), is one of the most exciting and enthralling characters in all of comics.

Let's hope some of that magic translates to the animated series.

Any and all naysayers shall be smited!

Cool. Sounds like this is going to be based more on the myhtology end and less on his interactions with the general Marvel Universe. 'Bout time a God got his own cartoon. Eat that Jesus.

Marvel just does not have quality animation these days...this is going back to Ultimate Avengers I&II, Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Fantastic Four and the more recent Avengers Next...it just seems like they're churning these animated shows out w/ out regard to any quality, gearing it towards the kiddies...knowing they could put anything over on that percentage of the viewer market.
Now The Black Panther and Thor will can be added to the list.

Posted by: Rock Roche on November 15, 2008 at 15:31:36

I hope this is more geared towards the older crowd, I'm tired of these kid animated series... What happened to shows like Batman TAS, X-Men, and Spawn??
