Brett Ratner Commits to Conan
November 8, 2008
The Hollywood Reporter says that Brett Ratner has weighed two high-profile projects the past few weeks: Paramount's fourth installment of the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise and a 21st century take on "Conan" co-produced by Nu Image/Millennium and Lionsgate.
Ratner has now made his choice and is in final negotiations to direct Conan, which is aiming for a release in early 2010.
The trade says that Ratner jived to the Conan script by Joshua Oppenheimer and Thomas Dean Donnelly, who looked to Robert E. Howard's original pulp stories of the 1930s to create their take on the character. The writers are doing a quick polish to incorporate some of Ratner's ideas.
Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of Millennium Films are producing, along with Paradox Entertainment president and CEO Fredrik Malmberg.
Millennium and Lionsgate are eyeing a potential franchise and envision a very R-rated approach in the $85 million budget range. Preproduction is under way for a shoot at Nu Image's Nu Boyana Studio in Bulgaria.
"The story opens on the battlefield where Conan is born and tells the origin story that sets the stage for what will be the first of multiple films," Lerner said.

Hopefully a good "Conan" movie. Maybe Ratner can prove himself to be a good director??

Brett Ratner had nothing to do with the crapiness of X-men 3, you igonrant fools.
One man, and one alone, is responsible for the destruction of the X-men franchise:
Fox studio's head honcho TOM ROTHMAN
-he de facto sacked Bryan Singer and his team
-he rushed a piece of crap X3 script intoproduction so it the movie would be ready to compete with Superman Reurns just to spite singer
-X3 would have sucked 10 times harder if not for Ratners input
Also, Tom Rotham is the man repsonsible for "Live Free and Die Hard" and "Hitman" getting the PG-13, setting the "AvP" franchise on earth in our day and age, screwing up "Max Payne", and making sure all Fox DVDs and Blu-rays are more expensive than any others and constantly double dipped.
Everything that is wrong with Fox is curtesy of Tom føkking Rothman, who was hired for one reason only: he is the son of a former head honcho.
Don't blame Ratner for X3, blame the man responsible:
TOM ROTHMAN
Don't believe me? Check out his imd board, that should be telling

Brett Ratner??
Directing Conan????
This will suck!!!!!
Posted by: Captain Iron Thor on November 8, 2008 at 03:08:00
I didn't know about Tom Rothman's guilt for the crapiness of X3.
Well, after learning that, I think that Brett Ratner deserves a chance.

Despite what norse_sage said of Tom Rothman, both Ratner and Singer still suck. Tom Rothman in his suckiness hired suck directors to a sucky story that stupendously sucked the suck of suckiness!
My hopes for Conan have been dashed...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE let this be a lie. Crom is laughing at us from his mountain as I type this... I made a joke the other day talking about the Conan movie with my brother and he asked who I wanted to direct and I said, and I quote, "I want Ridley Scott, but I'll settle for anybody but Brett Ratner." Seriously. Could they have picked ANYBODY worse? Hell, I'd be happier with Michael Bay and I hate that guy. Maybe the only worse filmmaker they could have picked would be the guy that butchered Daredevil & Ghost Rider. Mark Steven Johnson.

I agree, Ken. This couldn't suck anymore if it was on the suckiest day of my life and I had an electrified sucking machine.
When I think of Brett Ratner doing Conan, I think of dumbass wise-cracking sidekick, terrible effects, horrible acting and no sense of gritty, ancient realism whatsoever. I picture the 2nd horrible Arnold movie, the awful D&D movie, and Kull The Conqueror with Kevin Sorbo. That's been done. I want a '300 meets Ridley Scott's Gladiator' Conan. I want it to have the cinematic weight of Francis Ford Coppola's work in the 70s (Godfather, Apocalypse Now). I want savage, brutal, inspiring adventure, a great character in Conan, lots of blood and battle, lusty wenches, monsters, ancient cities, and dark, realistic, gritty and violent. Not The Scorpion King with Chris Tucker as the wisecracking sidekick...

This could be really cool. Hopefully Conan will be redeemed from the crap The Governator gave us back in the 80's. So far the two recent Conan games have been pretty goo story wise. Meaning Conan: the video game (XBOX360 and PS3) and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures - the Massive Multiplayer Online Game (PC).

Ok. Whatever with the director. Who will play Conan? Arnold was the man! Hard to see anyone else in the role. Maybe they should animate it, like Beowulf.

X3 ****s in the mouth of any diehard X-Men fan and then tapes said mouth shut.
Perhaps if you didn't love the characters and didn't grow up with them I can possibly see how you were entertained.
For those of us who expected them to actually treat the storylines with respect and decency, we got eye-raped.
Wtf? Dark Phoenix being regulated to an afterthought? Enjoy your X3 and your Conan.
