Paramount Pictures has acquired Paul Pope's upcoming graphic novel Battling Boy, with Brad Pitt's Plan B to produce the adaptation, reports Variety.

The gritty tale centers on the son of a god or superhero who comes down from the top of a mountain at his father's behest in order to rid a giant city of monsters.

The book will be published in spring 2010 by First Second Books.

Pope, a multiple Eisner Award winner who writes and illustrates his work, is best known for his "Heavy Liquid" and "Batman: Year 100" comic book series. He worked for years at Kodansha, Japan's best-known manga publisher.

It is a city populated solely by monsters, and it is rather large...this is a movie about genocide.

Definitely worth the read.

Dr. Doc, What is Batman year 100 I have never heard of that, but it seems MyJobsuuuuucks knows alot about it. MJS, tell me my man what Batman year 100 is about I am a huge Batman fan as well a huge Superman fan too. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are the top 3 chief character advertisements for DC Comics. For, Marvel comics the 3 top character advertisements are Spiderman, Hulk and Wolverine.

batman year 100 (one of my personal favorites as well) is a story of batman set in the year 2039, 100 years after his first appearance in 1939. its set in a distopian future where gotham is a police state and there are no secret identities or masks. think batman set in the gritty world of bladerunner mixed with 1984 by george orwell. in the story, this forgotten icon of the past is wanted for murder in the future! it starts of with batman booking it across a rooftop being chased by police dogs and follows batman as he tries to solve the murder hes been framed for and uncovers a government conspiracy all the while being hunted by the police! its very fast paced. i really suck at explaining things simply but i hope i did an okay job.

It sounds like Hercules. The god being Zeus and the son being well Hercules.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure I saw a video of Pope holding up a page or two from the book and describing the character as the son of a god, not a superhero.

In any case, Pope is a fav of mine and I can't wait to see the new book!

Agreed, kyle96. But that's not the plot they're using. He's to rid a GIANT CITY of monsters.

So it's probably going to be a city the size of Australia, populated with zillions of innocent tiny burger-sized little monsters living in peace. And the superhero is supposed to rid of - not only the monsters - but the whole city, all land mass and everything.

When did you ever see that plot? ^_~

And what next? They'll buy the rights of the next comic Frank Miller would write/illustrate, which Frank hasn't even think of at that moment.
