Big Shakeup Behind the Heroes Scenes
November 2, 2008
Variety says there was a big shakeup behind the scenes of NBC's "Heroes" on Sunday as writers/co-executive producers Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb were fired.
The duo had been with the show since its first season and were known to have led the day-to-day production operation under the direction of creator/executive producer Tim Kring.
"Heroes," produced by Universal Media Studios, has struggled in the ratings its third season. It's understood that Alexander and Loeb were let go because of NBC executives' frustration with the creative direction of the show.
The trade added that the show is also said to have been dealing with hefty budget overruns this season that are going well beyond its already sizable $4 million per-episode pricetag.

The main problem with this show is and will always remain it's writting. After season two,I was hopping the show would revert back to it's season 1 greatness, but I have been disappointed so far. I'll be amazed if the show continues past season 3...

Loeb gone!!! This is not good, things are only going to get worse.

They finally realized they are in big trouble and are now getting desperate. The show has become a mess.
It started off really good, but then things just got unnecessarily confusing. Too many characters with powers and the characters' powers got all mixed up. AND the story direction seems to be going nowhere.
I think fans like knowing their heroes, and these became so confusing that fans got bored of trying to figure them out.

I never understood what the hype was about 'Heroes.' I watched the first season & thought it was "okay." The second season had too much going on & got all weird midway through. The third season is just flat out PREDICTABLE. I couldn't bare to watch it any longer so I stopped around episode 4. I gave it the old college try & I couldn't find myself emotionally investing in the stories or the characters. I could care less if a hero lived or died.--And the villians weren't anything to jump up & down about either.
'Heroes' has to be one of the most overrated shows ever. Perhaps if they took more of a darker X-Files-ish approach where the abilities weren't something you can find in every comic book in the last 50yrs., maybe they'd truly stand out.

Jeph Leob got fired?! NOOOO!!!!
Ah, well. I guess it's time to move on. *sigh*

uh, can YOU think of a power that hasnt been used in the last 50 years?
i for one think this new season is amazing, they are using their powers a lot more which makes it interesting and things are happening at a faster pace, its not like season 1 with nothing happening for 8 episodes and one person uses their power per episode, season 1 and 2 were weak but 3 is baller so far

YIKES!? Jeph Loeb?! He was one of the main reasons I originally tuned into the show. He is a brilliant writer. The other guy, sure...who cares. Tim Kring has been on self-sabotage since Season 2...Jeph is one of the few people to keep the show going. Hell, even Batman Begins/Dark Knight paid tribute to him (Commissioner Loeb, anyone? :P). The guy is a genius, don't dump him yet!
Posted by: Dr.Doak on November 3, 2008 at 01:08:00
Commissioner Loeb is from the comics, not a nod to Jeph Loeb...
Also, Loeb is definitely one of the best things this show had going for it, that's like punching more holes in an already sinking ship, bad move guys.

Dude, Comish Loeb is from the comics...
I actually love season three but I am not a fan of all the characters and confusion at the moment. And I think firing these guys wasn't the best way to handle it. They shoulda just taken more control and pushed them in a different direction.

thank god loeb is gone in my opinion, i would not be surprised if every crappy idea this season came from his idiotic brain. sure the guy has written some great stories in the past, but his track record as of late is complete and utter crap. look at his work on the newest ultimates arc, he basically just took a crap on millars work and ruined the ultimates. then lets look at the new hulk series he's writing, probably one of the worst comics ive ever read, the books only saving grace is the artwork, same as it was on his batman superman series. comics have reached a point where they can finally be regarded as adult literature and its crap writers like loeb who are giving comic books a bad name. the dude needs to take some time off and re evaluate his own writing, cuz hes just flat out sucked d*** since fallen son:captain america and batman/superman. with him gone heroes should pick up again.

Ryan, that's why they have writing teams for this stuff. How do you think the abilities that were created over the last 50yrs. got that way? They didn't just magically appear on the pages. Someone (or a team of someones) sat down & seriously thought about what kind of powers or characters we hadn't seen in comics before. Sure, there were slight variations of the powers or added abilities, but if those writers piggybacked off of everything the biggest comic stars of their day did, we'd never have characters like Gambit, Doomsday, Domino, etc. All I'm suggesting is that if you seriously want to survive in the comic realm (or a TV show/movie inspired by comics), you ALWAYS have to be one step ahead of your audience & giving them something familiar yet different. Something ORIGINAL that's distinctively unique to the 'Heroes' franchise.
If it's a suggestion you want though, perhaps a hero or a villain that could sing a weird melodic tune that could raise the dead or conjure spirits to fight on their behalf? Just thinking out the box here.

I still like the show, but it is a total Xmen rip off, so a lot of us already know what to expect.
I am miffed with it, the same as I got with the Xmen - TIME TRAVEL. Anytime you add time travel mumbo-jumbo, you steal away from the severity of any plot or situation. So, suck on that HIRO.

It's no surprise this show has ran out of steam. In the first season, every show had to top the previous, meaning each show revealed something pivotal to the plot in most cases, each episode more epic, leading up to something huge.
You can only do that for so long before you start to exaust the formula/story, in this case it seems like they are beating a dead horse for the sake of it. They are supposedly taking this season to something big but feels like its dragging on. It's like they don't even know what they are going to do.
This season is better than the last but that's not saying much.

Robert Downey, Jr. You are still running your crazy mouth talking about Ironman being the best superhero movie in 2008 when you know it wasn't. RDJ deserves an Oscar for playing the iconic Marvel hero but, the best actor for a superhero flick this year I would choose Edward Norton and Heath Ledger for The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight. Heath Ledger will definitely receive an Oscar at next years Oscar nominations awards for 2009. Eventhough, he won't be there in person to receive it his family and little girl Matilda Ledger will receive her daddy's award. I think she will be a future actress like Heath and continue the Heath Ledger family name. Edward Norton who is a look a like to Golden Globe Winner Michael Keaton deserves and Oscar Academy Award for playing Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Incredible Hulk. Tim Roth I think is a Oscar Winner I know that he was in Planet Of The Apes, and Dark Water. RDJ, quit kidding yourself about Ironman being the best Superhero film of all time it is nowhere near the past successes of Superman The Movie in 1978 with Christopher Reeve and Gene Hackman directed by movie director genious Richard Donner and Batman The Movie 1989 with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson directed by another movie genious Tim Burton. Jon Favreau is brillaint but, he is a newbie director compared to Richard Donner and Timothy Burton.

uh. jeph loeb hasnt been a decent writer in a looong time. He has legit ruined every comic for marvel he has touched in the last few years. Wolverine, Hulk, the Ultimates 3. which I'm sure none of you read so it doesnt matter. But to every comic fan, he god awful. this can only be good, as the show is seriously lacking.

Hi, EmilyEmily, I saw your name at a different post on Superherohype.com and I asked you if you had a bf. I like you alot and want to get to know you. Anyway, we can both start out as friends that is how relationships start and I am looking for a sweetheart so tell me what you like in a man. I like talking about differnt things other than movies and silly RDJ here talking about Ironman being the best superhero film this year when it doesn't touch The Incredible Hulk and The Dark Knight. Batman Begins and Superman Returns even eat Ironman for breakfast when it comes to story and special and visual effects. EmilyEmily I love you sweetheart talk to me and tell meeeeeee what you want tell meeeeee what you need. Dru Hill.

I don't know what show you people have been watching, but so far Season 3 is by FAR the best one yet.

This is crazy! I don't whether it's good or bad. The problem is that the show feels the need to top itself every episode, so we constantly get major plot "twists," and it becomes all convoluted(sp?) and pretentious. They just keep pulling back curtain after curtain, surprise after surprise, and eventually they're just like a mediocre magician.
On the other hand, maybe they'll end up bringing in some fresh talent that will cause the show to absolutely train wreck. And I don't wanna see that happen. If this show is gone, and Smallville is gone, where am I gonna get my weekly "hero-fix?"

Heroes is over, finished... Jeph Loeb is awesome, he has written successful comic publications for Marvel comics!
The show is gonna lose it's integrity...
Posted by: TheWrAitH on November 3, 2008 at 01:53:11
They better hire writers that have written for comic books...
Posted by: Dr. Doc on November 3, 2008 at 01:56:32
yeah, Loeb seems to have lost his marbles since going exclusive w/ Marvel
i liked HULK alot at first because Ed McGuiness's art is the sh--, but after like 3, issues i cant stand it anymore. the writing is just god awful. down right terrible. like a 6 yr old is doing writing it or something
what the hell happened to Loeb?
