He-Man Loses the Power of Grayskull
Source:Latino Review
October 17, 2008

Latino Review reports that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which has a script by Justin Marks, is dead at Warner Bros. Pictures in its current state. We quote:

The studio gave the execs at Silver Pictures a very small list of A-director names they would consider making the film with, amongst them Doug Liman and Bryan Singer who both passed.
There were some up and coming directors that were gung ho on the script, but the studio wasn't feeling them.

Another reason and perhaps the biggest was that Navid McIIhargey, the exec who brought in He-Man to Silver Pictures, left the company last month to become a Senior VP at New Regency as reported last month in both trades.

Sources tell me Navid and another exec (who also left Silver) – guys in their thirties who grew up on the property - were the unsung heroes of He-Man and are no longer there doing the day to day to get He-Man over the mountain and get the movie made.

From the direction they planed on taking this movie from the actors they wanted to play He-man. I am glad this movie got the red light.

I want to see this new He-Man and The Masters of the Universe film, with She-Ra Princess of Power spinoff series that did pretty well after her cousin warrior bust TV screen ratings with spectacular reviews and cool toy line selling. The video game was due out on XBOX based on the new Heman series but, it was cancelled bummer.!!!

We need guys like Justin Marks writing these scripts cuz I mean haven't we learned that a lot of these independant writers come up with better **** than the heavyweights, damn, by the way how much credibility did Christopher Nolan get with Batman before any of us saw Batman Begins, Warner Bros. are idiots....

I think this would be a tricky movie to pull off. All the characters from the show were pretty one dimensional. It would be hard to stay faithful to who they are but at the same time develop characters that can drive the narrative.
Only someone very dedicated to the source material should be allowed to helm this.

Too bad...
The script looked like Conan meets Lord of the Rings...

Posted by: Arminies on October 17, 2008 at 02:08:05

man this blows.... i want this movie! i mean we are getting G.I joe for loves sake.

Posted by: icko on October 17, 2008 at 02:20:16

man....i just read the script review in latinoreview and it was pretty cool....bummers that warner is not doing this anymore.

It seems that Mattel will take matters into their own hands:

"Execs at toy company Mattel are so infuriated at Warners, that they want the property back to take it elsewhere. Mattel’s anger is understandable. No movie equals no toys to make."

Then maybe it's not entirely over after all.

WE NEED A NEW HE-MAN MOVIE!!!!

look at the 80´s movie with dolp lundgren...should this be the only real live action movie of MotU that we want to remember???..dont think so...

so WARNER...DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you have enough new money(thanks to nolan and the dark knight)!

This is a bummer. Conan meets Lord of the Rings indeed (but don't forget to add a dash of sci-fi/steampunk). The characters, especially the world of Eternia itself, were pretty unique and could have been fleshed out a lot in a more serious movie. Revamp some of the more ridiculous elements, and the bizarre cast of characters, would be a jaw-dropping circus of awesome. I can see the preview now: a hardcore rock ballad, slowly winding up, as shadowy hulking freaks and fiends rise from the dark chambers of snake mountain. Cut to them crunching through Eternian guards in an epic LOTR kind of assault, and a desperate prince, bloody and battered, crawling away from a massive, sharp-toothed cyborg, reaches out for the last hope of his people: a forbidden sword of enchantment, lying in the rubble. It gives me chills.

This could have been the single most awesome movie ever made in the right hands, I cant believe it's been canned. Wankfests like dragon ball get turned into movies and he-man, which was moving in all the right directions gets pulled.

The orig 80's movie was very cheesy and so if it was to exist in todays times it would need a cool new spin. RDale cowboy I agree some of the characters were pretty 1 dimensional but then look at Transformers and GI Joe? Theres a market for it but it would need seeerious planning so it didnt blow goats. Too true on Mr Singer...huuge Batman fan but hoped Superman would be good too...it soo wasnt!! Get rid!!

You see, this is the shyt that I'm talking about. The Foocking WB executives that have no vision or ideas WHATSOEVER to let directors and writers make the movies that we want to see. But hey, let's start a Superman franchise with someone like Bryan Singer who completely killed the franchise until 2010, or a Catwoman movie with Oscar winners Halle Berry and Sharon Stone, or let's bring in Joel Shumaker AGAIN and kill the Batman franchise all over again with foocking Batnipples all over the screen. Yeah, foocking WB executives that's what wrong with the whole DC Comics properties. I bet none of them ever watched He-man on a Saturday morning or even open a comic book in their lives.

Mr Paul Levitz, yes you sir. If you ever read this blog from me;

Please find a way to buy DC Comics and start producing movies with the writers, editors and artist that make DC Comics awesome. How can you wake up in the mornings and live with yourself? You have a wide arrange of DC properties to work and make happen. Get away from WB cause while you're still under them all of the good properties like Hawkman, Aquaman, and Firestorm will never be used like they should and you'll have people in suits who've never open a comic book in their lives take a gamble on a shytty "Steel" movie like they did back in 1994.

I could see He-man having the potential to be an amazing fusion of sword and sorcery and sci/fi,but I would rather them wait till they are sure that they can pull this off properly. I was looking forward to seeing new versions of Skeletor,Trapjaw,Triclops,Statos, and BATTLECAT though...sigh

this was gona be the best movie ever!

Posted by: Whymonkeyshateme! on October 17, 2008 at 06:51:49

Wow this sucks, I for one would love to see a re-make of the He-Man series. Dolph lundgren can finally be laid to rest, and the torrent of abuse he receives daily for the destruction of such a great series can finally be over. Warner bros should take a leaf out of Marvel Productions book, they are now making movies for the fans whilst staying true(ish) to thier source material (incredible hulk/iron man). I never expected transformers to be such a good film, I was impressed but G.I. Joe WTF!!!! and don't get me started on Dragonbull!! Come on warner actually listen to the fans for a change, make this dam movie!

Posted by: chris on October 17, 2008 at 07:44:34

im pissed look what they did with transfomers it was great, and he-man if taken really serious would have been a really good movie.this sucks d bring HULK SEQUEL!!!! and X-MEN 4!!!! O WE PETITION BIG!!!!!!

Posted by: Archangel on October 17, 2008 at 07:58:11

I just hope it is better than that crap of a movie that starred Dolph Lundgren!!! I wasn't a fan of the 80's cartoon series but loved the reboot cartoon series that aired on Cartoon Network in 2002/2003.

ONE NAME

ALEX PROYAS

HE-MAN WILL RETURN ONE DAY! But better it is done right rather then just rushed garbage.

Posted by: PUGGDOGG on October 17, 2008 at 08:20:22

NOOOOOOOOO! He-Man was my first super-hero experience. From what I can remember.

Posted by: Your Name Here on October 17, 2008 at 08:36:58

I see complaints that the original MOTU movie with Dolph Lundgren was cheezy. More importantly, though, it was EXTREMELY inaccurate by taking place entirely on Earth and including a cast of characters that noone had heard of before. Gwildor instead of Orko, Saurod, Blade, KARG??? What the hell were they thinking?

Sorry, but if they can't do a new one correctly, they need to just back away slowly. I remember being disappointed at 10 years old with the last one, so don't mess with "what could have been" any further.
