WB Eyes Ryan Gosling for Green Lantern?
Source:Latino Review
October 8, 2008

Latino Review is reporting the rumor that Ryan Gosling is Warner Bros. Pictures' first choice for Green Lantern. Gosling, most known for The Notebook, has also starred in recent pics like Lars and the Real Girl and Half Nelson. He received both an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for the latter.

Greg Berlanti is attached to direct the studio's big screen adaptation, written by Marc Guggenheim, Michael Green and Berlanti.

The "Green Lantern" was created in 1940 by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell. Hal Jordan introduced in 1959, a second-generation test pilot, is an ordinary man who was given the power ring and battery (lantern) by a dying alien named Abin Sur. When Abin Sur's spaceship crashed on Earth, the alien used his ring to seek out an individual to take his place as Green Lantern: someone who was "utterly honest and born without fear."

No release date has been scheduled for the film.

No! That's some crappy casting.

Gosling would make a decent Barry but he's no Hal Jordan!

I don't know, he doesn't seem like the superhero type. He's a good actor and all. But I just don't know....

Gosling is a good choice!!!..It's a very good actor,2 times oscar nominee and he has a very excellente curriculum..so for me is the perfect choice!!!

SUCH an awful choice..this guy shouldn't play a superhero

People were Extremely skeptical when Heath Ledger was announced to portray the Joker. Don’t judge an actor by his appearance!

I will go in with an open mind, he could be what Heath Ledger was to The Joker (if I recall, not many were originally pleased with that casting either). It could be a complete surprise. Congratulations to Ryan Gosling for getting a cool role, let's hope he looks at some of the source material.

Solid choice...although he would definitely need to beef up a bit for it. But if what they're going for is good acting, he's all about it.

Um...no.

Posted by: kwasmand on October 8, 2008 at 17:56:36

I was thinking more green arrow with a beard and 20 lbs

Posted by: King Ruler on October 8, 2008 at 17:56:41

He's a great actor. No doubt. But I just don't see him as Hal. Maybe if they got someone older looking.

ditto, its stupid to base an actors future role on previous films totally unrelated. If he gets this role and he does well why worry!?

Posted by: MidKnight C on October 8, 2008 at 17:58:53

nope sorry dont like i kno day can do alot bettter than this some1 how at least as sum mucsles lol this isnt peter parker we r talkin about its Green Lantern come on we kno u can do better

Good casting. I think he'll fit perfectly.

DON'T DO IT, MAN!

Go for an oscar!

Don't do the superhero stuff!

Posted by: nooooo on October 8, 2008 at 18:03:40

noooooooo! we grew up in the same town and we're in the same grade (not school mind you). that would totally **** this up for me. :(

Posted by: Dark Knight on October 8, 2008 at 18:04:04

Actually Gosling is a good choice! I solid actor who is and up and comer and is the right age. I always thought Gosling would be a good choice for Wally West...but I would accept Gosling as just starting out Hal Jordan.

Posted by: The Fastest Man Alive on October 8, 2008 at 18:04:22

Not good. It dosent matter if this guy is a good actor or not he dosent look anything like what Hal Jordan is supposed to look like. He has a long face with squinty eyes and a pointy nose. Get someone like James Marsden now he would make a good Hal Jordan or someone with similar features not this geek. please I hope this is just a rumor and DC isent screwing up on this already.

Posted by: Colonial One on October 8, 2008 at 18:05:31

Nathon Fillion would be pitch perfect

We should wait for an official announcement, there was a lot of rumors that Johnny Depp was going to be the Joker.

Is Clive Owen to old? I could see Scott Caan as guy gardner. Casey Afleck as Kyle Rayner. I just have this picture in mind that Clive Owens look is Hal Jordan. The problem is that he may just be too old.

He is definitely a quality actor, I think his credentials speak to this. However, I personally think that there could be other actors out there who fit the physical and facial profile of Hal Jordan a lot better than he would. It would be great knowing that a solid actor was portraying such a dynamic character, but unless he did bulk up a lot I think his build would take away from his performance. Not to say it isn't possible, I have seen a few pics of Jake Gyllenhall (sp?) now after bulking up for Prince of Persia and it is a striking contrast, and not to say doing so for gosling would make him a perfect choice, but that is what would be expected from him if he were to take this role. Not saying he doesn't deserve this, but it will be interesting to see how this casting choice ends up playing out.

NOOOOOOOO!

Ryan Gosling looks NOTHING like Hal Jordan! :O This would be an AWFUL casting choice.

Posted by: Ripper on October 8, 2008 at 18:14:27

I don't know, man. He always sounds like he's got a cold or sinus problems.

Posted by: Shmigueroa on October 8, 2008 at 18:16:11

It does say "rumored" so no official casting has been made. IMHO I think David Boreanaz would make a good choice. He was the voice of Hal Jordan in the Justice League: New Frontier movie so he has GL expericence. Just a thought...
