When Does the 300 Follow-Up Take Place?
Source:IESB.net

IESB.net talked to Watchmen director Zack Snyder about the proposed follow-up to his hit graphic novel adaptation, 300.

Snyder told the site he has spoken with the graphic novel's creator, Frank Miller, who will be writing and drawing the graphic novel that the second film will be based on. Work on the script for the movie won't start until after completion of the book, as Snyder doesn't want to have any input into the novel and wants it to be Miller's creation.

The director added that it will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea, the battle that narrator Dilios (David Wenham) is at the end of 300. There's a whole year between the two battles and plenty of room for more story.

Snyder said he would definitely direct the follow-up.

now that that's out of the way...
um, well, i suppose that makes sense (Miller writing a good graphic novel beofre any filming starts), but i don't really think we need another 300. what the hell they gonna call it? 300,000?

Posted by: Black Knight on October 2, 2008 at 10:42:44

continue directing my friend, Watchmen and 300 will be great universal together.

Wow... really?

we shall see and see we shall

301? Dumb idea. Quit making sequels for stand-alone movies.

Posted by: 216 on October 2, 2008 at 10:51:00

I like the fact that he's actually going to write the novel first, so its not just a rushed up movie

im leary about them making a sequel to 300...but if they do it right...it will be historic

Really. Of all the ****.

Posted by: WeaponXQc on October 2, 2008 at 10:57:56

if Frank Miller is writing, Zack Snyder directing, I will be watching!

Posted by: zombie spartans on October 2, 2008 at 10:58:33

If I were Frank Miller and Zack Snyder, I would make "300 of the Dead" where 300 dead Spartan zombies rise from the dead and start eating everything that stand in their way. That would be cool :)

This is just like Wall Street. If there is a buck to be made, go for it. 300 was the cherry on the sundae. To take apart the sundae seems kind of pointless. Miller should work towards making Ronin a film or The Dark Knight Returns. His existing material translated to screen has worked out great so far. Let's stick to that formula for now.

Hows about we see if the graphic novel is any good before we automatically put the Hollywood Stamp of Approval on it, eh? This just doesn't sound like a story that needs to be made, so I don't think it'll do well at Box Offices. On DVD perhaps, but it's just a second helping of a story that we've already been told about.

Why ruin an amazing movie ? Hollywood pisses me off ! Frank Miller is a genius and has lots of other work to choose from ! Just another sign of corporate greed !!!

Posted by: Blood Red on October 2, 2008 at 11:09:38

I thought the books were great and the movie was absolutely amazing, but this is just completely FORCED.

I understand that $$$ is the bottom line in Hollywood, but it seems Miller is succumbing to the dollar worship as well.

UNLESS, if he always had another story in mind. Of course, if he did, wouldn't he have at least spoken about it before now, if not had it already published?!? (That's a lot if Ifs)

As I stated, it feels like just an excuse to churn out something to bring in more bucks. And that feels cheap.

And then there's the good chance that they won't capture lightning in that bottle again, especially since Butler's King Leonidas is dead. Watch, he'll make a cameo as a ghost or in a flashback sequence. YAWN.

Why must they sully the memory of 300?!?

I just hope that Miller isn't JUST writing the new graphic novel so it can be made into a movie.

And before any of you start pontificating the cast... I highly doubt Christian Bale will be in this film. Hahaha

i wonder how they're going to play this off. The Spartans weren't the ones to actually defeat the Persian invasion forces for good. The Athenians did....the same Athenians the Spartans insulted constantly in 300....I mean 300 was not historically accurate for the most part and I had no problem with that (being a student of history and a reader of comic books I let the latter take over) but 300 was a great novel and a good movie, why do this follow-up???????

God, you fanboys love whining about anything and everything, no matter how much these guys give to ya.

A) It's Millers story, he can do whatever he wants with it.

B) Miller makes money off of properties that he KNOWS are going to sell. DK2 for example. Writer's don't just write cuz it's a fun, happy-go-lucky job, he' making a living you dolts.

C) You have yet to see the quality of the story, so wtf are you crying about? Not that the first one was super deep or anything, christ.

D) This movie (300)was huge with non-comic book fans, so it doesn't matter whether you want it or not, there's a whole 'nother audience that wants it and doesn't give a **** what you fanboys think.

Wait and see you turds. Jumping on everything before you've even seen anything. This movie could end up way better than 300 and you're going to have your foot in your mouth. Just relax, and wait and see.

@ Private Joker

E ) I agreed with your suggestion.

they're making a sequel to a financially successful film? jesus its like this movie making thing is a business or something.

Jesus people, get a ****ing life yeah.

i'm surprised miller is doing another novel. seems like he already used up the story. i mean- there's one story about these guys in history and we already heard it. why try to fit an inbetwe-equal into it?

miller is starting to hack himself.

speedracer216 - i agree -it should be left as-is

This as dumb as the idea that was being rolled around for a "Gladiator 2." Maximus is dead and Leonidas is dead. There's no story left to cover; no ground left to walk on people!

In some way I've lost a little respect for Miller because eventually when Hollywood is done squeezing lemonade out of him, they'll ditch him and get rid of him. Same as all the superheroes and graphic novel movies being made.

Eventually, they'll become extinct like pirate movies and Westerns a few years down and then we'll need a resurgence of some sort from another comic-book genius.

I wish Miller would just go and finish his "Batman Vs. Al Qaeda" graphic novel he was writing/drawing. It's about DAMN TIME that comes out! Along with "SIN CITY 2, 3, and 4."

Posted by: Stumblin on October 2, 2008 at 12:06:16

I sort of wish they left it alone, but I can see it kicking ass...I will wait and watch.

Posted by: Young_Nastyman on October 2, 2008 at 12:15:30

Leave 300 alone!!! sheesh. Frank Miller has become a money hungry *hore

Be grateful they're not already remaking it.
