Kenneth Branagh to Direct Thor!
September 28, 2008
Kenneth Branagh is negotiating to direct Thor for Marvel Studios, reports Variety. The comic book adaptation is scheduled for a July 16, 2010 release.
Branagh is the latest in a string of directors -- such as Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Christopher Nolan (the Batman franchise) and Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) -- with arthouse roots taking on big-budget comic book fare.
Marvel will set a distributor for Thor shortly.
Thor, written by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.

Holy crap. Not sure exactly how I feel about this, exept surprised. he's not exactly the first guy I had in my mind.
Here's hoping he doesn't cast himself. Orthat Kevin McKidd guy. Thor should be both big and buff, and a pretty boy. He should have the body of McKidd and the face of Johnny Depp.

This is BRILLIANT! Kenneth Branagh is a fantastic actor, as welkl as a fantastic director! He'd better do justice to "Thor", otherwise I may never watch another one of his movies again!

Big buff don't matter as long as whoever is cast can act. No wreastlers or lame models or bodybuilders.

On the one hand this seems like a good fit. A good thing. I really hope this is a good thing. I know Branaugh's reputation. But I hope it is not long winded, a bit too serious, and the slightly ego-centric movie that I have found his other movies to be before. I also hope he can handle the action of such a story. This has got to be set in Asgard. That's the angle.
He wouldn't have crossed my mind but I'm staying positive and open.

I hope there's a stirring rendition of the St. Crispin's Day monologue from 'Henry V' just before Thor smashes some idiot's skull with his hammer.

Someone said on here that they hope Kenneth Branagh(who is a skilled direcor and actor)doesn`t cast himself as Thor. Unlike unabashed gloryhound Warren Beatty directing **** Tracy and casting himself as Tracy back in 1990 it wouldn`t make any sense for Branagh to cast himself as The Norse God of Thunder.
Thor is supposed to be immortal but he`s not actually old.So they need a actor somewhere in his twenties or even thirties to wield that enchanted uru hammer. And hopefully that means they ixnay any pumped- up wrestlers and body builders who boast bulging biceps but lack acting ability.Let`s hope Branagh and Marvel can make it happen!

Branaugh? Isn't he the guy that acts and directs all those Shakespeare movies. If thats the case I think that is good news.

Wasnt the dude directing Kick-Ass directing this too?
Well, this is good news, at least this film being released in 2011 sounds far more believable, and the guy sounds like a good director.
Now let's find out who's playing Thor.
I hope its Chris Tucker!
