Update: Kevin Eastman Talks Live-Action TMNT

UPDATE: The post mentioned below has been removed and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" writer Stephen Murphy wrote on his Blog that "This is complete nonsense and entirely untrue."

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman has confirmed the rumors that Imagi and Warner Bros. are in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters. He posted the following at HeavyMetal.com:

Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film--like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right--but no official word yet...will keep you posted. Best, Kevin

The CG-animated movie TMNT, which was released in March of 2007, earned $95 million worldwide compared to its $34 million budget.

I say no live action.

Just go with the CGI it looks better and not as cheesy.

Awesome loved the TMNT growing up and enjoyed the recent cgi film. A new live action if done right could be amazing.

Oh, no.

1st one was AWESOME...why not do it again.

that is awesome the original was the best. cant wait for another live action movie, but not like the 2nd or 3rd.

I'm on the fence with this, actually. I dont hate the idea because I wouldnt mind another TMNT movie...but something about it seems...off. I do not know. Maybe I wont know. Maybe...just maybe.....daylight will return.

All this darkness... I'm starting to resent TDK for doing so well.

go ninja go

Posted by: jobot on September 2, 2008 at 16:21:10

no more remakes. How about a movie where they're older i mean they've been teenagers for around 20 years now

Posted by: the man_bat on September 2, 2008 at 16:24:08

that would be so cool!! but even if steve barron did a great job on the first one, i don't know if i would like to see him come back for another...i mean, he had his vision, let's see what another director can bring, something fresh, dark, a little violent if you want, not too much but just enough, i know tmnt is for children but after all, every superhero movies can be done for adult, even spider man and superman..i wish tmnt is dark because they live in the sewers, they're ugly, they do not show themselves in public, they're agressive...see what i mean...anyway that is a good idea coming from eastman!!

Since when does making a movie "dark" mean it will be better? I don't understand this reasoning (Cementhead). A dark live-action Ninja Turtles? Stupid and unnecessary. Then again, a remake/revision of TMNT is stupid and unnecessary too. The only thing the original was missing was Rocksteady and Beebop!

Posted by: Oogz on September 2, 2008 at 16:25:22

...Dark, Realistic and Gritty turtles, ala Batman Begins and Dark Knight styling? ....Okay? Hope they don't forget it's supposed to be fun...

Posted by: Air Force One on September 2, 2008 at 16:28:13

At last.

Posted by: jamie on September 2, 2008 at 16:30:37

I'm all for a live action movie, but why the need to do the intro again? It was done well in the first movie, they did it on both cartoons (I think), and flashed back to it in TMNT. Just do a return of the Shredder movie already. We know who he is.

Posted by: Space Monkey on September 2, 2008 at 16:33:46

Oh man, the original TMNT live action movies were already good to begin with, what the heck do they do it again to do it right? I watched those movies countless times growing up. Those are pretty much on classic level, especially if you grew up in the 90's....

Posted by: dmiwell on September 2, 2008 at 16:35:02

Base it off the 1980-1990s cartoon and put rocksteady and bebop in ....sweettt

Posted by: fazeman on September 2, 2008 at 16:35:57

It doesn't make any sense! Take every comic or cartoon-based movie franchise and just keep telling the same story over and over. Reboot this, reboot Superman, hell let's just make the third Batman a reboot too. Enough is enough. Dark styling was cool for Batman cuz that's what he is. Not everyone has to follow that guideline just cuz it worked for him. Ugh next stop, a Blade reboot. Leave well enough alone!

you noobs are dumb, OG TMNT is dark, gritty, and violent, so you ****s need to get a life. best news of my life, i think even sin city type black and white would work in this case. and frank miller directing, cool.

Posted by: sp on September 2, 2008 at 16:40:45

this would be really cool.
the original comics arent for little kids so rated r or pretty close to it would be excellent.
cowabunga dudes!

Awesome news! I love the idea of another live-action Turtles film, but why do we need to go back to the basics?

I was hoping for a return of The Shredder plot.

Posted by: adam wiliams on September 2, 2008 at 16:45:09

yes the shredder return yaaaaaaa i love the tmnt and happy 25 years this is are years celebrate turtle fan celebrate

Posted by: kyfus on September 2, 2008 at 16:51:27

i hope that they change their mind to cgi , i was looking foward to a sequel. with the exception of the first one the other live action blew

Posted by: BBatfan13 on September 2, 2008 at 16:52:35

I know everyone has a problem with "dark and gritty" re-inventions but you have to remember alot of the source material has been dumbed down because Hollywood believed that if it wasn't PG-13 it would not work or if it was dark and violent they would not be able to sell as many tickets.

The TMNT was a dark and violent comic before it was a kid's cartoon. This is the kneejerk reaction to the success of Nolan's Batman.
