Cruise and Raimi Team on Sleeper
Source:The Hollywood Reporter
August 19, 2008

The Hollywood Reporter says that Tom Cruise and Sam Raimi are setting up Sleeper at Warner Bros. Cruise is loosely attached to star in the adaptation of the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic that Raimi would produce with his Star Road Entertainment partner Josh Donen.

Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, "Sleeper," which ran from 2003-05, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery.

Sleeper is being eyed not only as a starring vehicle for Cruise but also as a possible franchise for Warner Bros. Pictures.

The trade says that it looks like Cruise's next acting gig will be the Spyglass thriller The Tourist. Cruise is currently appearing in a cameo role in Tropic Thunder and will return to theaters on Dec. 26 in Bryan Singer's Valkyrie.

In addition to Sleeper and The Tourist, a third project Cruise is attached to currently is the Working Title/Universal comedy Food Fight.

Sounds decent, first Cruise stars in a Singer movie and now a Raimi? Good to see he is trying to revive his career through decent directors.

I'm still not back on the Cruise fan wagon. I can not take him seriously ever since he went crazy. That's why I am iffy about Valkyrie. The story seems to be great but I couldn't even get into Lions for Lambs. Cruise was funny as hell Tropic Thunder. Any serious movie he does I will rent, but any other role I may check out in theatres.

When did Tom Cruise go crazy? He jumped on a couch and made $80 mil off MI3. Lions for Lambs was a great movie not centered on Cruise. Couch jumping Cruise and Tropic Thunder Cruise is the same person having fun on a world stage, whats the problem?

Don't disrespect Cruise or scientology. SHH doesn't like it (the entire thread got wiped only recently because people said bad things about little Tom). Praise only people, preferably really badly written so that no one feels threatened.

Tom Cruise is an excellent actor. Don't confuse his personal off-screen life with his ability to act.

Tom Cruise is in institution. Haters back off.

Why can't we all just get along?

FFUUCCKK Tom Cruise,,, bad actor, i dont know why people make a party when he stars in a movie

Posted by: THE SHADOW OF THE BAT (2010) on August 19, 2008 at 13:59:55

LOL some prick said Cruise is great actor,,, just cause he's charismatic doestn make him good actor, its kinda like mmm britney spears,, okay its popular, sells a lot, her songs are likable for the stat quo and with some personal issues, thats not a good actor,,,

Posted by: JSilliker on August 19, 2008 at 14:02:52

Cruise doesnt suit the main character Holden Carver at all. It would just be bad casting, not judging Cruises acting at all.

The guy fell in love, and was showing it....good for him.

DC fan-boys are going to be jumping on Sam Raimi's Band-Wagon.

talk all you guys want about Cruise, but he don't have to do **** when it comes to reviving his career, he's great and he make great movies. he's one of the greatest actors in this movie ****

authorNYSE,

The couch thing was okay. It was his attacks on people like Brooke Shields. I'm glad he apologized though. I really do enjoy his action movies. Minority Report is a great flick.

Sleeper is on Amazon and there are some good customer reviews. I just may pick this one up. It's doesn't cost that much.

I'm not jumping on Tom's band wagon either, but the man is a great actor. Top Gun, Minority Report, Last Samurai, Mission Impossible were all good movies. So really don't judge a man outside of his work.

Ummmmm...those knocking on Cruise calling him a bad actor should probably review the fact that he's been nominated for an Oscar...3 times.

The guy generates a tremendous amount of money for any project he works on. He's one of highest grossing movie stars of all time. He jumped on a couch to celebrate the fact that he's banging Katie Holmes (something I would do if in a similar situation). OOOOOOOHHHHHH, he's crazy! Better steer clear!

Tom Cruise = you loose. the guy is a no talent turd who lost his cool streak when he went to the matt lauer interview and then just got retarded on oprah. if he never makes a movie again i'll be the happiest guy in the world. although he has made a handful of great movies. (before xenu told him everything to do)

Tom Cruise is a raving lunatic.
Him and the first church of born again lunatics are to effen crazy for me to even consider looking at. Raimi has become a real disappointment.

Posted by: John on August 19, 2008 at 21:45:37

I thought Cruise was a loser before it was cool to think so... he's a terrible actor who can't play anything but a narcissistic twit, and he can't even do that well.

He should have died in a car crash after Top Gun

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on August 19, 2008 at 22:53:18

Raimi can deliver a great movie with Tom at his side. I know I said earlier that Cruise's movies, I will rent. However I still think he's a great actor and his action/sci-fi/fantasy movies are something to watch. As someone stated; Minority Report, MI 1 2 and 3, Top Gun, Interview with a Vampire, Legend and The Last Samurai.

A Few Good Men is my favorite Cruise movie. So I say let Cruise and Raimi have their shot.

could care less about cruise's personal life, religion, family, etc...i've never walked out of his movies disappointed

his career choices, magnolia, vanilla sky, collateral, etc...have only strengthened my opinion of him

this seems like another good move. plus it's freaking raimi and brubaker. an awesome combo on its own

Posted by: Darkman on August 20, 2008 at 01:54:33

I've never really been a fan of his really and yet he's in 1 of favorite movies and that's because of Dustin Hoffman. But anything with Sam Raimi directing I'm all aboard for. All aboard the Raimi train! CHOO CHOO!!

He is a FIB!

First of all, Mr. Cruise is probably one of the most respected and skilled actors Earth has ever had. He is a beautiful man, with skin as soft and supple as it looks on screen. His touch has been known to heal and flower grow from droplets of his blood. Once my grandmother was dying from a horrible stroke, so I popped in her VHS copy of Top Gun, now she's doing fantastic. Thanks Maverick!

To make sure that Tom Cruise keeps putting out great films, I am going to see Project Valkyrie three times a day in the hopes that it over takes TDK, which will probably happen. And to all the nay-sayers who say he's gone crazy, he's not crazy. Would a crazy man leave Nicole Kidman and their adopted son to date a girl half his age? Would a crazy man play a Nazi on screen? Would a crazy man follow the beliefs of a science fiction writer? I think not.
