Matthew Vaughn is Ready to Kick-Ass
August 15, 2008
Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) is moving ahead to direct Kick-Ass, an adaptation of the comic by Mark Millar, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Christopher Mintz-Plasse is in negotiations, while Chloe Moretz has been cast in the film, whose violent nature has forced Hollywood studios to pass on making it. Vaughn, however, is such a believer in the project that he raised the money for the $30 million indie project himself.
Kick-Ass, written by Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., follows a high school dweeb who attempts to reinvent himself as a real-world costumed superhero named Kick-Ass who seems doomed to failure because he's not athletic or coordinated until he runs into real bad guys with real weapons.
Moretz's character is a ferocious, potty-mouthed 11-year-old who chops down crime thugs with a ninja sword. Mintz-Plasse will play the Red Mist, the angry teen son of a mobster who tries to find uncover Kick-Ass' identity.
The main character, Dave Lizewski, has not yet been cast. Vaughn also is talking to several high-profile stars to play parents or mobsters.
Vaughn wrote the adaptation with Jane Goldman and is producing with his Marv Films partner Kris Thykier. A fall start date is eyed.

I wonder if the MPAA will make the flick carry an NC-17 rating because they need to protect America from the evils of the word ass. In fact, I wonder if the word ass will even appear in this post, despite the title of the related article. It's a good thing there are so many layers of our society protecting us from the word ass. I'm gonna sleep like a baby tonight.

Oh, and good call storyteller, Sodomizer is clearly a victim of sodomy, not a perpatrator. You just know some creepy uncle did some phucked up stuff to make that kid so socially maladjusted.

Whoa... now this is ballzy... Don't turn it into another "Wanted" though... Well then I suppose that's not fair considering Kick-ass isn't completed just yet... Damn I don't know what to make of this...

I haven't seen Wanted, and from what I've read and heard from non-comic book fans, the movie's not too good.
Seems they've missed the reason why Wanted is such a praised comic book.
I've enjoyed every issue of Kick-Ass, but I think it's much too soon for a movie.

Am I the only one getting tired of the MILLIONS of typos that constantly riddle every story on this site? Hire some people who actually GRADUATED high school, guys...

Graduating from high school doesn't mean you know how to spell, lol. I know plenty of high school AND college graduates who can't spell worth a ****. They to need to invest in a professional editor, however. Or just proofread their **** before posting it.
Sodomizer is obviously an idiot who gets his kicks through spouting off **** to random people under anonymity. Don't get so worked up over it. The internet is not serious business. :P

Sodimizer uses his screen-name to let everyone know what his hobby is. Just leave those little boys and dogs alone, Sodimizer. What a jack-ass douchebag.
I hope this movie does well. It could be really cool. I've picked up all the issues so far and really like the series. It seems kind of early to be making a movie though but, I ain't complaining. If Millar's 'Wanted' had not done so well, I wonder if they would be so hot to make Kick-Ass.

@ Benjamin Bayer:
It's not just on this site, it's common everywhere. I get so tired of seeing incorrect spelling, incorrect grammer, etc on all kinds of sites, including mainstream news sites. Doesn't anyone ever proof read news stories anymore? Just one more sign that our soceity is in a fast downward spiral and we are done for. Each generation gets worse and worse. More and more lazy, uneducated and accepting of sub-par behavior and standards. Even our leaders now speak like uneducated morons, and I'm not refferring to just the President. It's everywhere.

@ TheBat,
"grammer" , lol.
Anyway, was I the only one hoping for McLovin to get his a$$ kicked ?

The Bat
It's Grammar not Grammer so much for your intellectual comment.

So now they're making movies for comic book characters after only 1 year of existence. And I thought Spawn was too quick to be made.

KICK ASS!! BYAHH!!!

Mintz-Plasse has the perfect voice, demeanor, physicality and notoriety to play the main character! The guy is still a teenager, and is the dweeb poster boy for awkward nerd-angst; the scene in Superbad where his two buddy cops haul him away from the party while he goes apes#!* should be used as his audition for Kick-ass!

Jesus, who appointed you as the grammar police? Yeah, we all spot mistakes from time to time, and sure, maybe they should proof read their articles or use the spellchecker more often... Quite why anyone gets so offended by it is beyond me, it's part of life now, with the advent of the 'interweb'... I read posts where people have really laid into someone for using the wrong 'there/they're/their, as long as you understand what they're saying why bother commenting on it?
I await your corrections...
Posted by: James on August 15, 2008 at 12:24:58
Also; These grammar/spelling mistakes aren't exclusive to the fast paced world of the 'interweb', I spot all sorts of mistakes in nation papers, novels and monthly magazines (aren't I a clever boy). As they say **** happpens...

I hope they don't Hollywoodize this one as much as they did "Wanted". Matthew Vaughn's a pretty good choice to direct this one, provided he doesn't drop out at the last minute. And Mr.Zakereye, quit riding Sodomizer's ****.

Is it possible to cast mintz-plasse as the main character although hes going to be the red mist because hes perfect for dave....wen i found out this was going to be a film my first choice for the actor to play dave was MCLOVIN then i was like nahhh but they should do it and there here he is..cast in the movie!! but seriously i was dissapointed wen he wasnt kick ass cuz hes perfect!!

I can't believe they are steamrolling this movie into production when Icon can't even get the books out in a timely manner. There's almost a two month gap between the release of issue #3 and when issue #4 hits stands on 8/27. We haven't even seen the Red Mist character yet. Perhaps he's in long-awaited #4.

Didn't this book just starting coming out? WTF? Can't we bring some other characters to the big screen first?
Passed it over in the comic shop. Will probably pass it over in the theaters as well.
