Blackman and McCain Rewriting Conan Script

Dirk Blackman and Howard McCain have been hired to rework the script for Conan for Lionsgate.

The writing team's action-adventure screenplay Amazon, an epic about female warriors to which Scarlett Johansson has been attached, is sailing out of turnaround toward Lionsgate as well, with Neal Moritz and his Original Film coming on to produce once the deal is completed.

The Hollywood Reporter says director searches are under way for both.

CEO and president of Paradox Entertainment Fredrik Malmberg is producing the Conan feature along with Boaz Davidson, Joe Gatta and Avi Lerner of Millennium Films.

Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara) wrote earlier drafts of the film, a potential resurrection of the classic warrior created by Robert E. Howard. In 1982, Oliver Stone and John Milius wrote an adaptation, which Milius also directed, that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The writers have gone back to Howard's original stories to create a $100 million R-rated origin film, the largest production to date for Lionsgate and Millennium.

"Fans expect (these types of movies) to be more true to the source material," Malmberg said. "There's no reason there couldn't be a Conan movie every two years. He's almost like Batman: He's a dark hero. He's a hard hero. He has to be badass, but we also have to like him."

Since they claim this is going to stay true with the original source, then just take the time to draft the script properly & not rushing it.
However I wonder who will be cast as the next conan. Perhaps Roland Kickinger. Let see how he's fair with the Terminator role first. I dont mind waiting for a while longer as long as they get the script & casting right.

Well, he did play Arnold in See Arnold Run, and now hes gonna be in Terminator Salvation as a prototype for T-800, i don't see why not, it wouldn't be a bad choice

By any chance that this new conan be able to crosslink with the red sonja franchise, that would be awesome. But please do not rush for production just for that agenda.

you can't beat arnold in conan. red sonja with too small, too much plastic surgery rosie is gonna suck arse!!

i heard rob zombie was attached to a conan movie. i think his first 2 movies blew!! his halloween remake was good, till you got to the girl who replaced jamie lee curtis. she was so freakin' annoying i wanted her dead!! ruined an otherwise good movie.

i'd go see that more times than TDK.
soooo hottt!!! drives me freakin' nuts she's dating that talentless hack ryan rynolds. he is a complete hack!! he went to the same acting school as keanu, afflek, and paul walker, just to name a few. must be awesome to be super good looking. you get to kee making movies een if you can't act and bang the hottest girls.

Roland Kickinger played Arnold Schwarzenegger in that made for TV movie "See Arnold Run" a few years back. Apart from being cast as a prototype T-800 for the upcoming Terminator Salvation he hasn't been in much.

For recommending Roland, it's a good choice. I suppose for a guy who played Arnold, it would be fitting for him to take over the role that launched Arnold's career.

Normally I'm deathly apposed to casting Wrestlers in movie roles based on this type of stuff. However, if the casting director looks down that road and the script doesn't call for in depth acting, I'd wouldn't be too apposed to seeing that guy "Dave Batista" in the role. As much as I hate wrestlers in movies, he would be my one and only pick.

But I would scour the depths of the acting pool before I turn to WWE.
