Tyrese Gibson a Thundercat?

July 28, 2008
Superhero Hype! got a chance to speak with rapidly rising star Tyrese Gibson at the Death Race junket in San Diego on Sunday. We'll have the full video interview soon, but he did fill us in on another big project for him that will hopefully be happening the near future: Thundercats!
Tyrese said that he's been very involved in the attempt to bring the classic '80s cartoon series to the big screen and seemed to hint that a deal is very nearly complete. We asked him what character he'd be playing and he just smiled and said that there's a number of options on the table.
Late last year, the project was announced as a CG-animated feature at Warner Bros. Pictures that would be directed by video game veteran Jerry O'Flaherty. Whether that still stands is unknown.
Look for the full interview soon!

As Panthro i mean.

@John N
I think Adewale Akinnoye Agbaje would make a better Black Panther than Luke Cage.

I also say no to Micheal Jai White as Cage, he was alright in Spawn but have you seen anything else he's acted in? not a very good actor if you ask me.

Luke Cage you need an actor minimum of 6ft 2in tall, also some one who has a great build. And can give a convincing performance, the person I feel who do the is Christopher Judge.
He has a large build, and good presence if not that Character Black Goliath. Tyrese is too small in build and height, attitude spot on Common that won't work.

Tyrese could play Wiley Kit for all i care...

Ok am I the only one that thinks that Vin Diesle should play Panthro? I think he would be perfect for that.

If they can do werewolves with real people then they can do thundercats too. CG would just be unnecessary. Anyone remember the last planet of the apes movie? A costume will do just fine.

Damn1t! He better not have anything to do with the Thundercats movie. I can't stand Gibson, he plays the same roles over and over and he gets more annoying with each new one.
I'm guessing he'll voice/play Panthro, that seems like the most logical choice.

Luke Cage= Terry Crews! No one else!

Hey Willard....Michael Jai White was the black criminal head in the Dark Knight...he was getting pissed at the Joker when he made his appearance...the guys done other work its just been more independent...better roles anyways

i have heard michael clark duncan for panthro as well. also that he has done a screen test with makeup. not sure if its a 100% true though. and btw, panthro was voiced by the actor that played the grandfather on the cosby show, so he was black.

this movie is already doomed.
Posted by: Tee Kae on July 28, 2008 at 10:02:55
no no no no ...you can go CGI with this...it's gotta be a live-action movie! That's the only way it would work!...
Posted by: Bae on July 28, 2008 at 10:03:04
Can't see Tyrese as Panthro, that should be given to Duncan. Only thing I could see Tyrese being in the movie is the mutant Jackalman

I dunno they should use MICHAEL JAI WHITE
as "ad" says on this comment. I mean tyrese? I dunno he is ok his acting skill are ok. Wanna se what they could come up w/ for their costumes if they make it live action. I don't believe they will have Lion-O in that get up in real-life looks a little ridiculous. I don't mind CGI either.
Oh BTW COMIC-CON RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never much cared for Thundercats. Tyrese Gibson is too scrawny and silly to play Luke Cage. ad's idea for Michael Jai White looks okay. Luke is a big, strong, solitary type of character with rage issues and an attitude. And if he ever does make it to a movie, I think it should be "Heroes for Hire". Or "Power Man & Iron Fist". Black Panther would be an excellent movie too. I actually plan on writing a script for it.

thundercats...you know what's cool?...the original voices...you know what's not? the thought of trying to bring this live action movie idea to real life. Cats is a good play, but i beleive it and the like, need to stay there and not come forth onto the big screen. A CGI movie would definately be the way to go

Djimon Hinsou would be a great black panther.
Posted by: YungKingCurtis07 on July 28, 2008 at 10:50:53
Hope its live action they should get Michel bay and steven speilberg to do it thay did a great job makein transformers live action
Posted by: anders on July 28, 2008 at 10:55:37
Michael Jai White should suit up as Spawn again
Posted by: OldFart on July 28, 2008 at 11:50:44
hmm, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Panthro, interesting choice for consideration...will they let him wear "Kinky Boots" ? ¬_¬
Posted by: Marveller on July 28, 2008 at 12:04:58
Chiwetel is Black Panther, no one else is fitting than him. Not even the old, better set as Brother Voodoo Djimon Hounsou. Watch Redbelt to see what I mean.
Now for Luke Cage, it's less clear cut but the actor has to be a big guy.

Thundercats will flop miserably ... who wants to watch people in cat make up these days? Tyrese you better stick with the Robots in Disguise ...and im not talking about Robocop here...
