Superhero Hype! got a chance to speak with rapidly rising star Tyrese Gibson at the Death Race junket in San Diego on Sunday. We'll have the full video interview soon, but he did fill us in on another big project for him that will hopefully be happening the near future: Thundercats!

Tyrese said that he's been very involved in the attempt to bring the classic '80s cartoon series to the big screen and seemed to hint that a deal is very nearly complete. We asked him what character he'd be playing and he just smiled and said that there's a number of options on the table.

Late last year, the project was announced as a CG-animated feature at Warner Bros. Pictures that would be directed by video game veteran Jerry O'Flaherty. Whether that still stands is unknown.

I just can't see a full length Thundercat movie being that good.

Why would thet ask what character he would be playing?! Obviously it would be Panthro.....I don't really see him filling out for Snarf or Cheetarah...

Not a big fan of Tyrese Gibson.

Franco accidentally clipped Gibson on the set of Annapolis and Gibson went off about how much he was worth and the car he drives and how Franco better watch himself.

Not to mention screaming "Left cheek" 3 or 4 times in transformers was terrible. It was almost as bad as every other line he delivered in that movie.

Long as he doesn't play Luke Cage. I can name a few black actors that are better suited to play that role.

Yeah he should play Pathro - that would be cool.

And I would like him to be Luke Cage too - John N. name other actors that would do better.

I loved him in 2 Fast 2 Furious - seems he had the Luke Cage riff down already just minus the bullet proof skin.

I agree, I'd be pissed if Tyrese played Luke Cage, personally I think Common would be a good choice. Although I really don't think Luke Cage is a big enough character for a stand alone movie, he would have to be incorporated into and Avengers movie or perhaps a Heroes for Hire movie might be pretty cool.

I can only see him as Panthro. For some reason (maybe the voice acting) Panthro always felt like a black person to me. Same thing with Piccolo on Dragon Ball.

I don't care if he's older, I'll take Djimon Hinsou (sp?) in any role Tyrese wants to play.

And this is slightly off topic, but I'll take Chiwitel Ejiofore (i know i ****ed up that spelling) for Black Panther.

I think it's kind of sad that they're making a movie out of pretty much every cartoon/toy line from the 80's. I'm just waiting for a live action Fraggle Rock, now THAT would be blow Titanic out of the water!

I could see that, he's the dude on Shark right? I'd be happy with either one, although I refer you to my ealier comment about that character in a movie.

He can play Panthro (no steroe type or race involved). Gibson would be a badass Panthro but he may need to get a little more mass.

I loved the Thundercats but I can't see this being a live action. I hope they decide to go with a realistic CG style.

to goofy to play panthro, hes the same person in every roll. that person would be a bad panthro.

even bad as a voice over.

him cast would give us an idea of the direction they are going.

Michael Clarke Duncan from the green mile would be cool. And they should definately do it in the style of Beowolf, or maybe that style could wait for He-Man (Grey Skull).
