SDCC: Torchwood Star Up for Captain America?
Source:Silas Lesnick
July 24, 2008
John Barrowman, the star of "Torchwood," was just asked moments ago at the San Diego Comic-Con panel if there was any possibility that he would be playing Captain America in the upcoming feature film.
He smiled and gave the stock answer that he'd love to play the character and that Captain America has always been his favorite comic book superhero. Clearly, though, the notion did not take him by surprise and he ended up admitting there had been discussions with his agents and meetings on that very issue.
What do you think? Though maybe not the star-power that the studio might be looking for, Barrowman certainly fits the bill. We'll bring you more news as it develops.
The First Avenger: Captain America is currently scheduled for a May 6, 2011 release.

I've actually never heard of this guy but he looks like he could fit...
I'll have to check him out
Big names are sometimes overrated. If this guy can play the part, I say why not

I can't see it.
Or rather, I wouldn't want to.

I think a no name would be a better way to go for this movie...I can't imagine a recognizable face playing this part.

Wii, no one cares.
He's like a good Tom Cruise, but just as overly-excitable and always has that same sort of crazy-eye about him. The only difference is that Barrowman can act.
Still, he's definitely not someone I'd see in the part.

Oh hell yes!!! He's perfect!!!! And he's already an expert on the 1940's! Hehehe

Captain America is slated for release in 2011. Our current standing won't be so current by then...

i say go with the misogynistic 1950's Cpt America a pal of mine raves about.
The idea would be too much for those trying to build everything up to the Avengers movie tho and not very "heroic"

I understand him to be a total media whore. Wouldnt be suprise if the person that asked him was his assistant or sister or whatever

I'm sure they'll cast a bigger name.
Matt Damon or Leo Dicaprio anyone?

Being homosexual means nothing, getting the right person is the most important thing.
While I think Barrowman seems a decent bloke, IMO he's not right for the part. At least I've never seen anything to convince me he's the right man.

Yeah yeah, Barrowman is homosexual, we can all move on with our lives now.
He's well-known in England, (Torchwood being a British show and all) and as far as I know he's a good actor. He definitely looks the part.

I think he'd make a quality cap. America

WHAT?! you can't get a British guy to play Captain America!
that'd be like casting an american as James Bond!
of course... casting a british guy as Batman seemed to work out....
oh and yeah, He's not straight so I would guess the studio won't go for him to avoid controversy

NOOOOO!!! Why won't anyone agree that Kiefer Sutherland would make THE best Captain America (aside from him being Canadian of course).
For gods sake people, he plays Jack Bauer! Just my opinion of course. He may be a tad older, but it could still work, I am sure of it. As Robert Downy Jr. is to Ironman, so to is Sutherland to Captain America. As I see it.

This really looks like the part to play for Cap.
Can't wait.

I think if they want to avoid controversy and if they want the film to make money, they'll find someone else.

even though the show sucked i thought the guy that played flash on the new flash gordon tv show looked more the part and had the blonde hair already...just my .02

According to imdb this dude is 41 years old. Which means that by 2011 when the film comes out he'll already be 44.
More like Grandpa America.
