Djimon Hounsou is Thulsa Doom
July 21, 2008
Djimon Hounsou has partnered with Dynamite Entertainment to star in and produce a big screen feature about immortal sorcerer Thulsa Doom, a central figure in the Conan the Barbarian and Kull comic books, reports Variety.
The character will be featured in his own comic book series, published by Dynamite, an imprint of Dynamic Forces, next year.
He originally appeared in the Robert E. Howard pulp story "Delcardes' Cat," published in the 1930s.
Doom was portrayed by James Earl Jones in 1982's Conan the Barbarian.
The planned film will showcase the origins of the flawed hero and show how his road to hell was paved with good intentions.

YOU MAY HAVE CAUGHT ME ON THAT ONE SIR

That's weird. Thought they were gonna stick closer to the novels than the original film. Thoth Amon was the big baddie in the Conan stuff, and Thulsa Doom was Kull's nemesis, though, I guess he made an appearance in Conan's time. That's what I read anyhow. Haven't bought a Robert E. Howard compilation yet.
Whatever... I hope it's good. It's cool Djimon's gonna be in it.

Why is this man not being cast as the Black Panther? You'd think someone would have the foresight to make this happen.

now that's an excellent point JOHN N ... Djimon was awesome in blood diamond! can you imagine if the black panther was as gritty and as dark as blood diamond? this is the time, i think our super heroes need to follow suit with the change in comic book movies! there was b.d.k.(BEFORE DARK KNIGHT) with failures like spiderman 3, x3, daredevil, electra and ghost rider. its time to begin a.d.k. (AFTER DARK KNIGHT) with a new respect to the public with plots worth your money and time... hopefully.

Well hopefully this role will, if the film does well, make Djimon more "bankable" in Marvel's eyes, and they'll finally cast him as T'Challa, just like they should do.
As for this, I hope that the makers of the new Conan take a leaf out of what Dark Horse has done over the past few years, and stick closer to Howard's original vision of the character. We'll see though.

YES, WHY NOT DJIMON AS T'CHALLA? nice one there.

ummmmmmmmmm... i guess this is interesting.
well f**ck this movie where is the actual conan. i mean like wtf

Conan's being made by Millenium films, the company that was responsible for the recent Rambo movie... as far as I can tell this has nothing to do with the Conan film.

I'm with Patman. Bring on Thoth-Amon. Thulsa Doom is a Kull villain...

I agree with the others on this post and have been saying this for a long time. This guy would make a great Black Panther! Marvel, are you listening??!!
Posted by: walter on July 21, 2008 at 08:54:25
great, who's playing evil-lyn?
Posted by: Patman on July 21, 2008 at 08:56:39
Am I reading this wrong? Is this saying that this will be a Thulsa Doom movie? I guess that would be interesting lead up to the Conan franchise. They could start with Thulsa Doom and Kull and end it with Conan. If that were the case I'd have one request: Please don't recast Kevin Sorbo as Kull. Please?
Oh... and it would be cool to have either Djimon Honsou or Chiwetel Ejiofor as the Black Panther. I guess it would depend on the type of movie they went for. I liked Chiwetel in 'Serenity' and 'American Gangster'. They were both in 'Amistad', which was a great film. But between the two guys, I guess it would be a toss up between a more muscular Panther (Djimon) or a sleeker one (Ejiofor).

Chiwetel Ejiofor is T'Challa. Djimon is an old fool anyway for exalting this "unknown" character.
And Chiwetel's Redbelt is better than Djimon's Never Back Down.

I wonder if they are going to show him with his skull face. Thulsa Doom was the insparation behind the creation of Skeletor, for those who don't know.

Would it surprise you all to read a different point of view.
I didn't like the movie. Too many plot holes and it didn't give Batman enough to do. Everyone gave great performances, but that doesn't make a great movie, just great performances. Too many subplots that amounted to nothing, the Joker seemed invinceable and a maniac, but not the Joker. He was more like a terrorist, where were the jokes? Batman was outsmarted at every turn. Did her remember anything he learned from the league of Shadows in the first one. Did he use his ninja skills in fighting or any tactics. No, he just jumped in with fist flying taking on one guy at a time. Why destory the Bat-mobile, that was pointless. How do you let some bean counter find out who you are? How sorry is that. They did an excellent job with Harvey Dent, but two-face was wasted. And why was the Scarecrow in this movie, what purpose did that serve????? Is Rachel dead, or is she like tupac with no body. I want proof. Why have the fans guessing at wether two-face is dear, it should have been more obvious. Questions and plot holes. If you liked this film, fine. I just didn't and hope they correct the mistakes in the third installment.

The Other: Ummmm, so, Thulsa Doom....
Posted by: king hiss on July 21, 2008 at 12:25:57
@rogue
my guess is if they were going to make thulsa doom a walking special effect, they would have hired a nobody. that may lend weight to the theory that they're continuing his portrayal as a snake cult leader. if they stuck to the books at this point and made conan wiry instead of a hulk, the masses would probably reject it, because it would conflict with their erroneous idea of who/what he is. it's too early to say for certain but i doubt this movie will be anything to write home about.

This is for "The Other"...
You're a tool. Plotholes? There were no plotholes. This movie was completely concrete. Batman is a human being, ergo he is going to make mistakes (*in case you forgot, this movie takes place at the beginning of his crimefighting career.)
Bale's performance was great, but Ledger's performance, along with the hype following his death, unfortunately trumped that performance.
As for the Joker, we have never seen a performance this spot-on! The Joker, in realistic terms, WOULD be a terrorist! He is completely insane, and would have no attraction to money or power, just mindless, irrational voilence. The whole concept of him working for the mob, or robbing banks, was an EXCUSE to take on the Bat!
And lastly... WHY THE HELL ARE YOU WRITING THIS ON A COMMENT THREAD FOR THULSA DOOM?!
(My guess is that noone would listen to you anywhere else... And you have a small penis.)
Posted by: Please... God... No on July 21, 2008 at 14:10:26
First... Thulsa Doom was a character from Kull, not Conan. Milius ripped off so many things in his mockery of a Conan movie.
They're just now trying to get Conan back on track and true to how he was written by Robert E. Howard and this comes out of the woodwork to confuse everyone who is not familiar with the written Conan.
Black Panther would be a far better character to get his own film. That movie is just begging to be made.

OK,,,so everyone wants Djimon Honsou as Black Panther after Thulsa Doom. First off, a Thulsa Doom movie though dark and brooding might not be Honsou's best choice. He seems to play fallen heroes or guys with redeemable qualities or some kind of compassion. If I remember correctly, Doom is a sadist and snake worshipper who offers living sacrifices. A little off Mr. Honsou's grid but what ever. Much success if it works.
Now, if people are passionate about this guy playing marvel's own "dark knight" (no racial puns intended) write to B. E. T president Reginald Hudlin whos also the writer of the new Black Panther series currently issued by Marvel and executive producer of the upcoming Black Panther animated series coming out on B.E.T this fall.
And yes, since watching Amistad Djimon Honsou is an acting virtuoso but I never fully see him as the reigning Black Panther. I would rather see him as the precedding Black Panther T'Chaka...T'Challa's Dad. I think not only would Chiwetel Ejofer make a dynamic current black panther, but my candidate is an actor named Idris Elba. Hes a black London actor like Ejofer whose roots are from Central or Northern Africa. He starred in Daddy's Little Girls but might be more recognized in that movie the Reaping with Hillary Swank.

Can somebody just please confirm who Djimon is? I am I right in thinking he played Papa Midnite in Constantine. Thanks and if it is him then he will be great in Conan, he plays intense roles very well.

This Tulsa Doom movie should be interesting, if they tie it into the relaunch of the Conan and Kull remakes...I agree with Dijmon portraying T'Challa however, only if they make him every bit as intense and gritty as Bale was in Batman.
