Marvel Studios Sets Four More Release Dates!

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $104.2 million domestically and over $201 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)
In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.
With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)

So, who's gonna be playing the Cap'?

first........time commenting on any of these, i'm extremely pumped about all the comics to movies going on i just hope that they are going to do them the right way, and actually do them justice, the dark knight is one of the films i deifnately will see along with iron man, but for our sake, let's hope that the sequal to iron man won't suck, most sequals do, and it would be bad ass to see a captain america movie.

Can't wait!! Iron Man was awsome!

Man, what a movie. Ironman was a blast and I could not believe the scene at the end of the credits. I really hope that all of the Avengers that have a solo movie will have a cameo of the previous hero that was visited by a Member of SHEILD. This way setting up the Avengers movie. I really hope THOR casts correctly. I can't think of who would be good as THOR. Anyone?

hell yeah bring on captain and the avengers!

I heard Mel Gibson as Capt. A and Johnny Depp as Thor.

i like the idea of all these superhero movies, but they can't just churn out 10 new superhero movies and expect them to be good. remember the spiderman to x-men to daredevil to hulk phase? the latter 2 films were SERIOUSLY lacking, but studios said "hey they're superheros, who cares if the movies suck?"
so as long as they treat these films with the same respect as iron man, batman and possibly (hopefully) the new hulk, i'll be at each of these on opening night!

LOL!

How many cookie cutter super hero movies can one have or see. It is going to get to the point that nobody will care.

"So, who's gonna be playing the Cap'?"
And how's he going to do both movies at once? I realized recently that there's not a lot of really good blonde actors... Aaron Eckhart comes to mind.. can't think of too many others. And they'll need *3* for Captain America, Ant-Man and Thor. (Or actually 4 if Dr. Don Blake and Thor are played by different guys.)

I keep hearing that the script for THOR is incredible, so if the success of IRON MAN and the chance Marvel Studios took on allowing Favreau to hire Robert Downey Jr. (which obviously paid off) help to bring Matthew Vaughn's vision to life, then I say - THANK YOU JON FAVREAU!

Well, the big difference is that all those movies were produced by different studios, Daredevil being Fox's attempt at replicating the success of Spider-Man and their own X-Men, and Hulk being Universal throwing their hat into the ring because it was the thing to do. The difference this time is that they're all being produced by Marvel Studios, all with the bigger picture in mind. I mean, just the fact that The Avengers movie is being set-up so early in Iron Man and with The Incredible Hulk next month tells you that they're treating the movies more like they do the comic books, making sure that the quality is up there. I'm thinking that not all of them will be as good as Iron Man, but if they can do a good Captain America movie (which really shouldn't be hard) and semi-decent Thor movie (much MUCH tougher) than putting them together in The Avengers should kick the ass of previous superteam movies like X-Men and Fantastic Four. The thing is that they are going back to the comics more as the source (like Raimi did with Spider-Man) and there's a lot of good stories in those comics... there's a lot of great Avengers stories even in their early days and if you think about the origin of the original Avengers, you can tell they're really setting it up to be somewhere between that and the Ultimates with... well, I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read the comics. :)

Why there´s no date for Ant-Man??? I want that film done by Edgar Wright! I´d like it for a december 2009 release.
Posted by: Jordan on May 5, 2008 at 08:28:04
Actually, Captain America has already been cast...and I know who's gonna play him! Hehe!
Posted by: Alex on May 5, 2008 at 08:28:31
In regards to capt. who ever play him should be someone that understands the role like Robert downey jr played Ironman or getting an unknow like how hugh jackman pulled off wolverine, rather than getting some big name actor to play Capt and have them do a bad job and have to see them in two movies
Posted by: Harvey on May 5, 2008 at 08:29:42
I'm always wondering who might be Thor and Cap, I could see Cap being Brad Pitt or Matt Damon if not an unknown. What's anyone else think? I wouldn't be mind Damon to be honest.
No idea on Thor though. And who suspects that Ant-Man may end up being Simon Pegg?
Posted by: Jordan on May 5, 2008 at 08:31:15
He is a relative unknown at this point, I've only ever seen him in one thing, but he definitely has the physique already to pull it off. I think as long as his acting chops aren't too bad he will pull it off in fine style. But I know not everyone will agree with me.

The Thor script is unbelievably great. If they can make that movie it is intended to be, then it will be up there with the greatest comics to film movies ever.
Posted by: Edward Douglas on May 5, 2008 at 08:32:18
I have a feeling an Ant-Man movie might not work as well without having him be in Avengers first... since it's probably the least known Marvel character by a long-shot. But if he's written well for the Avengers movie, he might be popular enough to warrant a spin-off. I think Edgar's ready to do Scott Pilgrim first anyway.

why dont they get Val K. to be Thor !!!
Posted by: SKuLLFaCeD on May 5, 2008 at 08:35:50
once they make an avengers movie, do u think they could introduce more superheroes into avenger movie sequels? that would be cool, like they could bring in the vision and hawkeye etc to fight ultron or something
that would be AWSUM!
