ComingSoon.net has posted the impressive box office estimates for Iron Man, which follow below:

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios' Iron Man exceeded all expectations, earning a massive $100.75 million during its opening weekend domestically from 4,105 theaters and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, averaging $24,543 per site. Internationally, the film has also earned an incredible $96.7 million in 57 countries since it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million after just five days! The comic book adaptation, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, was the 10th biggest opening of all-time and the fourth biggest for a superhero movie. Among nonsequels, it came in behind only the first Spider-Man, which opened with $114.8 million. As far as May openings, Iron Man came in at #8, just behind X-Men: The Last Stand's $102.8 million when you look at the three-day figure (not counting Thursday night). Financed by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount, the movie cost about $150 million to make and $75 million to market.

That movie was amazing! Now there will definitely be a sequel. Plus, because of the strong word of mouth and nearly 100% positive reviews, it will easily cross 200 million, and maybe even reach 275 million. HELL TO THE YEAH!

Wow!!

This is awesome news for Marvel. I personally loved the film and thought it rocked. For me it was cast perfectly the action was great (a bit short maybe but more than enough to satisfy for Shellheads 1st outing)and loved the storyline too.

I hope Nick Fury makes a cameo in all of the forthcoming marvel movies concerning The Avengers to the point of where we get The Avengers movie we all want!!!!

Roll on Iron Man II

Iron Man is my favorite character, I've waited a long time for this and I wasn't disappointed, kick ass movie.

Posted by: jeff on May 4, 2008 at 15:36:23

Wow.. very impressive. More so than I thought. Who knows how much TDK or Hulk will pull in, but now they have some serious competition. Good luck guys. What a wonderful start to the summer movie extravaganza! Bring it!!!!

Posted by: comic_maniac on May 4, 2008 at 15:43:14

That is impressive indeed. and they deserve it. the movie was awesome! I cant wait for hulk and the dark knight!

Posted by: Spider-Vader on May 4, 2008 at 15:44:37

Let's hope that Marvel's self-financed movies won't be crappy. *Prays for Hulk*

Iron Man beats Superman Returns!

Posted by: Jonesy7475 on May 4, 2008 at 16:05:29

Saw it today.... did not dissapoint!
In fact the only thing I am dissapointed about is the fact that there are no TDK putting it down and making themselves look stupid like on every other Iron Man thread!

It's better that IM came out first, because the Hulk isn't going to be as successful, and that would be starting off on the wrong foot. I'll be surprised if the Hulk makes more than the first movie.

I thought the surprise scene was going to mention the Hulk in some way.

Posted by: Tighelander on May 4, 2008 at 16:09:38

Are the suits custom fitted? I mean Rhoades couldn't just put on Tony's suit, right?

I loved the "in-flight entertainment".

There is an extra clip at the end of the Hulk movie featuring Tony Stark discussing Hulk with Thunderbolt Ross...at least that's the rumor.

There's always someone throwing in some TDK hatred into these boards. Let it go, dawg. Let it go.

Anyway, Iron Man was pretty damn good summer flick. I bet it'll be in the top ten until Memorial Day. It deserves to be.

Posted by: Ken on May 4, 2008 at 16:19:35

Ok, loved the movie...but...I think they took an intellectual short cut and did the cliched bigger bad guy fight thing at the end. THE VERY SAME THING THAT HULK WILL DO WITH ABOMINATION! I would have perferred more terrorist killing than there was. That's my only gripe, otherwise, GREAT FILM!

Yay! Reminds me of "Field of Dreams", if you build it, they will come. I am glad a quality superhero flick is busting out like this....perhaps the studios will see they make more than schlock?

Thanks Jon Favreau, you are teh awesome!
