Hugh Jackman Talks Wolverine
Source:A1ant
April 30, 2008
MTV talked to Hugh Jackman about his May 1, 2009 opener X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
"We are dealing with a character who is probably one of the darker comic book characters ever created," Jackman said. "The movie has a lot of fun elements, but there are layers of pain and darkness to this character."
"Tonally, I would put it more in the 'Batman Begins' sort of realm," he added. "That's sort of where we're headed."
And would he like to play Wolverine in more films? Find out his answer here.

Here ya go guys...
"And if Jackman has his way, “Origins” won’t be the last time we see him wielding adamantium claws. “There are two conditions for me doing any more: One is will anybody want to see it, and the second is: Will I still have the passion for it?” he explained. “I really wanted to do this spin-off movie, because I felt we hadn’t truly found who this character was.”
“Right now,” Jackman added, fueling hope for the fanboys, “I feel like I could do another ten or eleven.”"

Punisher is far darker than Batman. Batman isn't really dark. He's "dark" for the commoner. He refuses to take a life, and therefore puts his own morality above the welfare of others.
It would be nice to see a film Wolverine that doesn't get his butt handed to him by everyone he meets. Wolverine in the X-Men movies is way too emotional and not very dangerous. Wolverine should not crack jokes or cry.

It wasn't uncommon for Marvel to have Wolverine make an appearance in a failing comic to boost sales. Maybe 20th Century Fox can keep Jackman on retainer and he can make Wolverine appearances in their dramas and romantic comedies to sell more tickets. Just kidding, but at the same time I hope I didn't put a dreadful idea in Fox producer's head.

Saying Batman is less dark then Punisher is really not that dark. Being a fan of both they both come from the same realm of chaos. Both characters have undergone a enormous amount of mental pain and sadness. One with the death of his parents and several loved ones. The other of his family, now to me I can't really compare the two because I didn't write the stories. However Batman is dark to the sense that he is somewhat of a mercenary whether we like it or not he has taken the law into his own hands just like the Punisher. Where one may go to the extreme and the other won't they both still are very similar. So in that I believe Batman is far far darker, then the Punisher. The Punisher is just violent.

He might take out Batman but his "back-up" that would be Superman would toy with Wolverine!

Wolverine, stats wise, could hand Batman his rear end. Still, in X-Men 2, Wolverine's butt was handed on a platter by...Lady Deathstrike? I am hoping that this look at Wolvie will have him training because he is 'supposed' to be trained in every form of hand to hand combat.
On the other hand, to compare Wolvie: Origins to Batman Begins...wow...BB was such a concrete movie...I am willing to go out on a limb and say that BB is officially the gold standard all superhero movies need to be compared with.

I'm sick and tired of TDK fan boys. It's not the only movie in the universe and you don't have to get all defensive when Jackman says it will mimic the tone. fack! Batman isn't the only thing with value in the world you know.

Please, PLEASE keep Wolverine from having his ass handed to him by lame ass characters.
X2 was completely ruined by that piece of **** fight scene where he gets dusted by that fat fanboy's wet dream Deathstrike.
He should have had her in bouillon cubes by the end of that fight, not screaming like a ***** only to win by chance.
And no more ****ty wire-fu, that crap should have died out after the Matrix films.
Keep the fights gritty, let him OWN those he should, and keep things dark.

Wolverine Begins, eh? I'm all for it.
Looks like it will be directed by Gavin Hood, who directed Tsotsi. Interesting... I'd prefer Singer (or Fincher, if he could be convined!), but as long as it's not Ratner, I'm pretty happy.

" No other character is more DARKER then Batman!! "
Oh no . . . PLEASE tell me you did not just say "more darker" Mr. necrow. I can overlook the use of "then" rather than the appropriate "than" ... but "more darker???" That just crosses the line of being un-edumacated!!!

everyone making a comic book movie says they want it to be like 'begins.'
chris nolan really set a bench mark with longevity. I'd say it is partly due to most of the effect being shot in principal photography rather than 70% cgi bull****

People make funny comments about "darkness" in a movie or comicbook. If you want a dark story, then what matters is the STORY, not the character himself.
As a character, no, Batman isn't as "dark" as the Punisher. But why does that necessarily mean Batman STORIES can't be as dark-toned as Punisher STORIES?
Compare with SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, for example: much darker in tone than BATMAN BEGINS, yet Jodie Foster's character isn't as dark as Batman.
Another comparison: the death-of-Superman storyline. That's a darker STORY than 'Batman Begins', but that doesn't mean Superman himself as a character is darker than Batman.
So what is it you want? A darker story or a darker main character? I'd prefer a darker story, with a character who has a strong morality and is noble and heroic. What makes a good Batman story "dark" is not merely Bruce Wayne's own inner turmoil, but also the fact that he most works at night and that he gets a very close look at the seedy side of the culture.
"Darkness" isn't just about the main character, but even more so what's going on *around* the character.

Andy appears to have made a VERY good point.
Oh, I forgot about the topic; yeah, Wolverine should be pretty damn cool.

I find it interesting that movie makers are trying to compare their movies to Batman Begins. First it was Mortal Kombat, then it was the Incredible Hulk, and now its Wolverine: Origins.
