An Update From the Harvey Dent Campaign
Source:Ruins
April 9, 2008
Superhero Hype! received this letter from the Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) campaign (part of The Dark Knight viral marketing) today:
A lot of things in a campaign look differently from the inside. Take the current media wildfire. Now, there's not a shred of evidence linking Harvey Dent to any questionable behavior. But the media is creating such a ruckus that from the outside, it's impossible to see anything else.
Well, I can tell all of you that the Dent campaign is still going strong. We're still committed to bringing Harvey Dent's message of change to every corner of this city.
Harvey Dent is not letting the smear campaign impact our campaign. He's continuing to do what a candidate does -- and he's continuing to lead the charge against the corruption that's destroying our city.
So rest assured -- this campaign is not over. Indeed, it has hardly begun. We WILL take Gotham back.
Allan Cypes
Media Manager, Dent for DA
The campaign's official website, IBelieveinHarveyDent.com, has also posted the following announcement:
PRESS CONFERENCE TO BE STREAMED LIVE ON SUNDAY APRIL 13TH AT 3:00 PM (EDT).
Harvey Dent realizes that the slanderous and untrue charges trumped up by a mysterious group never seen before in Gotham politics has distracted from the real issues facing Gotham - how to make our city safe again and fight the crime and corruption that is endangering our future. I Believe In Harvey Dent will hold a press conference on Sunday, April 13th at 3:00 pm (EDT) for an important announcement regarding the campaign. The audio of this event will be streamed live on this website.
CLARIFICATION The Gotham Machinists Union has not "withdrawn their endorsement" of Harvey Dent for DA. Their spokesmen clarified that the endorsement has merely been "suspended" for the time being. The Harvey Dent campaign looks forward to the continued support of the Gotham Machinists Union.
DONUT SUPPLIER NEEDED The Harvey Dent campaign lives and breathes off its volunteer crew. Hundreds of Gotham citizens have joined the campaign to change our city. But this week, our donut donor stopped donating donuts to us. And as anyone who has worked on a campaign knows, if the volunteers are the life's blood of a campaign, then donuts are the life's blood of the volunteers. If any of you know of a donut donor who would like to get involved in the campaign to take Gotham back, please have them contact the campaign. Thank you.
Be sure to stay tuned to the site on Sunday!

Awesome!!!!!! This movie, along with Indiana Jones, will make summer 2008 the best summer I've had since...well since the summer Batman Begins premiered!

To be honest, I'm getting tired of this viral stuff. The bowling balls are pretty cool but I would do anything for another movie trailer ... something!

I love this viral marketing campaign. It has been absolutely perfect hype for this specific movie. There is obviously a HUGE fan base for Batman, but Nolan's challenge lies in his aim to ground the mythos and give them a certain sense of verisimilitude. This viral style of marketing certainly helps flesh out Nolan's Gotham while teasingly dangling a carrot in front of our faces the whole way up until June. That being said, if I don't get another trailer, I might ****ing lose it.

Agreed that this is the best Viral Campaign for any movie PERIOD!!! And i wish I someone would donate donuts to me. That'd be sweet...

This is off topic so first up I aplogise for that. (although for the record I don't much care for viral campaigns) Word is filtering through via various sites that a scene from the Dark Knight involving The Joker pretending to be dead in a body bag may be cut from the film.

I can't believe how long this campaign has been going on and how much has been placed into it. They will have to win some type of award. If that award doesn't exist, then someone start a new category at any various award show/company or I will bring out the holy hand grenade and I will say unto thee:
And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.'

This is awesome to the maximum! I love the marketing approach and what really sells it is the fact that we the fans can actually interact with the movie. I'm a huge batfan and I'm blown away by the planning and the detail of this campaign. It's like nothing I've seen before and it's something I never thought I'd see. I love Batman and this movie is going to revolutionize the DCU and the comic book movie industry.

Hey, Firefly...
"Kee-yee-yay-su-Dominay..."...whack!
As for AbelB's comment, I sure hope that none of the film is changed due to the tragic and untimely death of one of the film's biggest and brightest stars. That would just add insult to the tragedy. Ledger's family has already publically stated that they understand this film must be released...it's the old addage, "The Show Must Go On"...Yeah, it totally sux that Heath is gone, but the Joker (only a comic book character, not a real person!) lives on...

Up here we spell donut "doughnut".
Posted by: Mephar on April 10, 2008 at 01:34:35
Wow. I most sincerely applaud lex in his use of the word 'verisimilitude,' and properly no less! If we would all start doing things like that, people might start taking comic geeks like ourselves more seriously. I also applaud the staying on subject (thus far) and lack of the use of ordinals in this particular comment thread.

In Soviet Russia, Harvey Dent believes in YOU!

this is stupid just watch the movie!
Posted by: Smallz on April 10, 2008 at 06:42:36
Well, I'm sure that The Joker will do something crazy or disrupt the live feed...hopefully. This viral stuff is really cool, but I agree with the others when they say a trailer would be nice. That would be hilarious if Anthony Michael Hall shows up at the end of the next trailer as The Clock King. Everybody would be so mad. lol. That would be very bad. I dont care who is in the next trailer, just bring it on!
