Benderspink to Adapt Last Blood
Source:Variety
April 2, 2008

Benderspink is adapting "Last Blood," based on Bobby Crosby's comic book centered on a band of vampires protecting the Earth's last human survivors of a zombie apocalypse, says Variety.

"Last Blood" was co-created by siblings Bobby Crosby and Chris Crosby but Bobby wrote the comic book alone.

Benderspink, headed by Chris Bender and J.C. Spink, has a variety of comic book properties set up including Power and Glory and Y: The Last Man at New Line, The Ghouly Boys at Mandate and Pet Robots at Disney. It's also developing Area 52, a sci-fi actioner based on the Image Comics series by Brian Haberlin.

Sounds like a good story. I never heard of it but I will look into it. It appears every type of comic is being picked up. I am waiting for Y: The Last Man.

I have just read last blood on the wikipedia site, this comic has true potential on the big screen, if done right. In my opinion it's like 300 with vampires.

it was an april fools joke.

First April was yesterday...

And Last Blood is one of the best vampires vs. zombies comic on earth... seeing it on the big screen would be amazing.

When is somebody going to adapt Fathom, or Danger Girl? Both of those were some cool titles back in the day. Adapt those! This vampire crap is overdone.

Buffy and Angel finished the genre and laid it to rest. Blade made sure it stayed dead, Underworld and 30 Days of Night brought the genre back from the dead...crapped on it...and then killed it again. The vampire genre is done, so can we please just focus on superheroes and sci-fi anime movies, please???

Okay, I'm not a 100% serious here. Maybe just 50 or 75%. But I think you get the point. Tom Cruise did LeStat and that was the height of it. Everything else was crap. My rant is now over.

Don't judge a book by its cover - Last Blood may be a vampire story, but it completely reinvents the genre with an awesome and original twist that connects the vampires with ZOMBIES. How many storied to date have even had the two together?

Anyway, you should read it, and you might come to the conclusion that Last Blood is neither crap nor overdone. It's just plain awesome.

It is not an April Fools Joke. It is a real story in Variety.

Can't wait, this will make a good movie.

"Yay...another comic book vampire adaptation..."...

Posted by: Mud on April 2, 2008 at 12:50:16

Oh boy. Just what we *really* need. Another vampire/zombie/it-sucks-to-be-a-human movie. Fight me off with a stick. *yawn*

Posted by: Vulcanis on April 2, 2008 at 13:02:58

Hey Mud, I would actually read the story if I were you. It's pretty solid. I hate it when people write off films based solely on the premise.

Posted by: Mud on April 2, 2008 at 14:19:21

Zombies attacking people. Vampires protecting people...so that their food supply doesn't end. Then vampires can attack people. Stellar idea. Next!

Posted by: James on April 2, 2008 at 15:56:10

Actually its more like Vampires have been our gaurdian angles for the past few thousand years, and now that scoiety is being totaly obliviated by zombies, they are forced to come out of hiding to protect the last of their food source.
This is going to be something like Dawn of the Dead meets 30 days of Night. Which could be entertaining, but it really depends on how far they are willing to take things.
I'd like to see this done like A Scanner Darkly. I think that would give this film the uniqueness it deserves while also giving it the means to stay true to the comic books.

my apologies. the last blood site posted that the variety article was an april fools joke. they have since updated that that was the joke.

I want to see a movie about the Borg working with the Xenomophs. You know, Borg provide hosts, then use the leftovers to propogate them selves. Can't remember if the Borg need the hearts though?

Actually, the joke was it really wasn't a joke. This is what was said on lastblood.net yesterday:

For those who didn’t get it, yesterday’s April Fool’s Day joke was that it wasn’t a joke! I thought it was pretty funny. I enjoyed the confusion it caused.

I’m very pleased to be working with Benderspink, a great company that has produced The Ring, The Butterfly Effect, and A History of Violence, which was based on a graphic novel and was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Adapted Screenplay. There’s still an outside chance that I’ll be writing the screenplay, but that’s looking very doubtful at the moment. I should have finished it months ago obviously, but I was too lazy and busy with other things. Having a big name writer adapt it, though, will most likely help a lot with getting a green light, so we’ll see what happens. More details later!

After reading the story to date, I'm really looking forward to this coming out. For those who like vampire and zombie movies you really should check it out.

If they make this a gorey as possiable then it could be awesome

this comic is hard core, I can only imagine how crazy the movie will be. Adison Payne for the win!
