Mark Millar Talks Kick-Ass Movie
Source:roraz
March 29, 2008
Last week, Ain't-It-Cool-News said that Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake) will be co-writing (with Jane Goldman) and directing a big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass." Now, Millar has addressed the rumor at Newsarama. Here's a clip:
I can't confirm or deny any director at this stage. Sure, Matthew and I are friends and I think Layer Cake and Stardust tie with 28 Days Later as the best British films of this decade so having him onboard would be amazing. But at this stage I can't even give you a little wink, except to say that the director is already in place and we're looking to rapidly go into production once we're finished a polish on the final script next month. Some casting has already been worked out too, but I can say nothing beyond this annoyingly vague statement.
The full interview is available here. Vaughn is also attached to direct Thor for Marvel Studios.

This is way too early for a Kick-Ass movie.

no joke we haven't even had time to really get to know the characters...although it is fastly becoming one of my fav. comics. I think they should wait a bit.

Heck it's up to what, Issue 2? Movie already, yeesh. Hollywood is desperate.

I think this rumor was started by Millar as part of their viral marketing campaign for the book. I'm calling you out Millar!

Rumor or not; the movie won't come out tomorrow. By the time its even close to coming out, the comic should be further along and more familiar to readers.
That being said, I don't really this that movie studios really care about comic book fans anyway; they could have just as easily created their own character without a comic and screened that, with about the same level of success- but less griping from fans about how they ruined the book.

It's no different really than when studios buy rights to books that have yet to be published. In that regard it's business as usual for Hollywood. But, as mentioned, we have to remember that this is Millar after all.
Have bought #1 but still to read it. But from what I've seen of it they may be looking at something in the vein of Fight Club.

Ive been wanting to read it, but was waiting for it to come out in trade. Did not expect to hear of a movie so quickly. I like the concept, but from what my friends have told me about this book...the movie will come close to a R. Wonder if Marvel will finace it through there studio?

Already!?!?!?! I don't know about this idea. We're talking a 2010 release at best, but it still seems way too early

So another comic book/graphic novel that I never heard of is going to be made into a movie.Well I hope it turns out good and will have to see what it looks like when it's released.I hope no one confused Kick-Ass with
the JackAss movies.

I was let down by the book it was supposed to be supper violent and graphic but if they cleaned the language it could be a regular marvel book i guess ill just have to stick with garth ennis and warren ellis for my graphic violence fix

i know its too early
but hey
maybe michale cera could do it

Not early enough! They should have made this movie years ago. Before the comic book even came out.

The comic is not really that great. It's just some dumb high school kid who has read to many comics and thinks he can fight crime. He nearly gets him self killed on his first attempt. Not likely to be a great flick. And I agree way to early for a film version.

It doesn't matter that it's only on issue #1. They'll got the major plot points mapped out for this first story arc. If they're presenting this story to a studio, and they were receptive to the idea(s), then that's enough for preliminary talks, which is what is likely happening. This is no different from any other movie pitch. The comic has no bearing on it.

first off, i can personal gaurontee that im kick ass's number one fan, ive read every issue, and im super pumped for the movie, i just hope the script is as good as the writing, either way, ill luv this movie, the only other comic book movie ive ever liked was daredivil, ben rocked it in that movie, so hopefuly this will be good like that, and not crapy like 300, batman, spider-men, or as cheezy as that new ironmen and hulkmen looks, too much CGI and way too cheezy for me. Bring on the kick-ass

I don't know what all of you little nancy boys are complaining about?! So what if the book just came out, that won't have any effect on how "Kick-Ass" the movie should be! I mean, come on, this story has been waiting to be written for DECADES!! It's every fanboys wet dream come true!

I feel really sorry for that guy who did the little independent comic that this ripped off now! Did anyone see it? It was a four page sample about a geek who decided to become a 'superhero' I got in a antholgy here in Texas?
He's gonna be mighty p******!!
