Elliott and Rossio to Pen The Lone Ranger

Writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, best known for their work on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films, are in final negotiations to write a live-action big-screen adaptation of The Lone Ranger for Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The Hollywood Reporter says the project will be made by Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films in association with Entertainment Rights.

"Ranger," owned by Classic Media, began life as a 1930s radio show. Its popularity led to movie serials, TV shows, comic strips and comic books, toys, novels and more.

The hero's origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.

Ah shoot, I don't believe I'm about to say it, but...."First".

However I will also add that this should be very cool if it's being done by the same people who did Pirates of the Caribbean.

bad ass. Hopefully this is some serious, western style vigilante justice.

They made a Lone Ranger movie over 20 years ago...a live action serious vigilante movie,,,,The scientist from Back to the Future....Christopher Lloyd is in it. The movie is called The Silver Bullet. Check it out, its pretty good.

Will do!

I think 3:10 to Yuma and No Country For Old Men would like to have a talk with you, moron, and that's just from '07.

I7eIVIoNBoY, I'd tell you to ignore them, but that won't stop them. SHH needs to start banning them and the trolls crapping up this comment system.

Hope they dont goof it up
Lone Ranger can be pretty badass.
Maybe a chuckle here and there but I think this story needs to be told in a serious aspect.
That would be cool, unlike the Green Hornet coming out.

Please, Please, Please let them base it on the Graphic Novel by Dynamite comics. It is the best telling of the Lone Ranger origin ever and is drawn in such a beautiful cinematic style that you can't help but think this would make a great movie while reading it.

It explains every aspect of the Character, giving a reason for all elements, even the Hi-yo yell.

We need a tradional Lone Ranger. Besides, I doubt that these are aware of DE's Lone Ranger. Just as well.

As afar as the Green Hornet, hopefully Seth Rogen will do Observe and REport and the next Apptow project instead.

That lone ranger movie was made in 1983 and it was with christopher lloyd , but it was not called "The Silver Bullet " . It was called The Legend OF the Lone Ranger . Michael Horse played tonto, christopher lloyd played butch cavendish, and the lone ranger was played by klinton Spilsbury . the lone rangers voice was dubbed over the original voice. i love the movie it was cheesey but my favorite movie . wish i could find it on dvd !!!!!!!!!!!

Darcsyde is right. if they keep yhat costume with the crossing gunbelts and a grey toned costume .keep it looking fresh itd be badass

There will only be one Lone Ranger as far as I'm concerned, Clayton Moore. I had the honor of meeting my 1950's boyhood hero back in the mid-'80's. But because they were filming a new version of the LR with a different actor, Warner Bros, (who held the rights at that time to the character) wouldn't allow Moore to wear his mask in public and had to settle for some wrap-around sunglasses. He was still cool though. Years later no one remembers the other actor OR movie, but Clayton Moore, God rest his soul, was, and will always be the Ranger.

my regards to peter kent but i am #21 woohoo !!! who comes on a comic board to be serious ? hey peter kent if you have to get so serious about a comic thread maybe you should go get a tampon and not come back !

Posted by: johnny aeon on March 28, 2008 at 09:25:11

i really wasnt too fond of clayton moore. granted he was the original LR, kudos to him. I just couldnt get into him though.

Posted by: Highrollin on March 28, 2008 at 09:27:55

you know im really looking forward to this. My dad used to tell me stories about the lone ranger, and then i found some comics. But i gotta say, as an indian, i get enough "Tonto" and "Injun" as it is. Hell i got crap from my friends but the trailer to "New World" alone.

But seriously im really looking forward to it. Those guys know hw to put together a story, AND Jerry knows action. I cant wait.

Posted by: rjones on March 28, 2008 at 09:30:05

You had to grow up watching Clayton Moore, as well as Roy Rogers, Sky King, Cisco Kid, Buffalo Bill, Hoppalong Cassidy, Gene Autry and the rest of the '50s bunch to appreciate them. Of course they're hokey now by todays standards, but it's a nostalgia thing. Like the guys who grew up watching He-Man cartoons, or Adam West's Batman TV show.

"People of today dont care about Westerns, save yourself the trouble Disney and dont bother making it"-Westerns R Done This may be one of the most ignorant posts I've read here. The same was said of pirate movies, and look at what Elliot and Rossio did for that genre. But come on, I'm not even going to list all the modern westerns that have been successful and definately already have a following. P.S. Posting "First" to post first, is really idiotic:)
