Thomas Sangster Cast as Tintin?
March 21, 2008
17-year-old Thomas Sangster (Nanny McPhee, Love Actually) has been cast to play comic book hero Tintin in the trilogy of performance capture films to be directed by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, according to the Daily Mail.
Sangster, from South London, has already been to Los Angeles to work on pre-production test sequences with both directors.
He'll be joining Andy Serkis, who has been cast as Tintin's sidekick Captain Haddock.
Filming on the first story involving Tintin begins in the fall, with Spielberg directing. Peter Jackson will direct the second movie.
At the end of this month, Sangster begins working with Oscar-winning director Jane Campion on her film Bright Star, a love story with Ben Whishaw and Abbie Cornish portraying John Keats and his lover Fanny Brawne.

I would've gone with someone older, but considering this is motion capture, I guess it's okay. They'd better get Tintin's hair right.

Posted by: frosty on March 21, 2008 at 07:50:05
Why the hell are they going with motion capture anyway?? Why don't they just make a good old fashion live action movie that will still look good in 10 years?? It's such a stupid idea.

France made 2 live action Tintin movies in the 60's: ''Tintin et le mystere de la Toison d'Or'' (Tintin and the Golden Fleece mystery) and ''Tintin et les Oranges Bleues'' (Tintin and the Blue Oranges). They were completely original stories, not remakes of the classical comic books, and the cast was absolutely identical in appearance, dialogue and attitude to what could be seen in Herge's work; even the voices were exactly as you imagined them for those characters! There has never been a more truthful rendition of a comic book character in film yet, anywhere in the world; all Tintin fans loved those flicks. I hope, but wonder if, Spielberg taking the easy way of technology will even match such simple, low cost yet superb work.

That's asking a lot from editor room directors like Jackson/Spieldberg. They're not half as bad as lucas, but their no Ron Howard, Sam Raimi, Christopher Nolan

Tintin is a great character. I enjoyed the books immensely as a kid. I look forward to what these great directors will come up with.

Ok, Hollywood should've never touched Tintin...

You're right Melies, not even with Jackson/Spielberg involved.

ok so everyone who is confused on why they are doin a motion capture film, well if you just think for a little bit....it's going to be a trilogy, and a young actor is supposed to play the part. Well being the smartys that they are, Spielberg and Jackson don't want a harry potter ordeal, where the actor will be 23 before the last movie comes out. Tintin is a timeless character, trapped at the same age no matter what incarnation he's in

Steven Speilberg if you're reading this my son is a dead ringer for tintin unlike the kid on this website that looks nothing like him. If you want to make a live action film let me know.
