Nicktoons and Marvel Entertainment have officially announced that they are joining forces to bring the animated adventures of Wolverine and Iron Man to television. The two brand new series will debut on the Nicktoons Network in First Quarter 2009.

Nicktoons Network, Nickelodeon's 24-hour animation channel, has joined forces with Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL - News), to bring iconic heroes Wolverine and Iron Man from the page and big screen to television in two brand-new animated series, "Iron Man: The Animated Series" (a co-production with French based Method Films) and "Wolverine and the X-Men" (a co-production with Toonz Entertainment Pte Ltd., Singapore and First Serve International Ltd.). Debuting exclusively on Nicktoons Network in first quarter 2009, Wolverine and the X-Men and Iron Man each feature 26 action-packed, half-hour episodes that follow the respective heroes through dynamic action, adventure and drama as they face foes both familiar and new to their fans.

"Nicktoons Network is first and foremost about showcasing the most creative and unique animation there is, and this partnership with Marvel is another crucial way to super-serve our audiences with something fresh and new," said Keith Dawkins, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Nicktoons Network. "The fact that these Marvel characters span books, feature films and TV speaks to their massive appeal. We hope this deal signals to the marketplace and our audience, particularly boys, that we are the home for big hits and exciting, adrenaline-fueled animation."

"Nicktoons has a reputation for delivering some of the highest quality animation programming to the youth entertainment market, and Marvel is thrilled to be joining hands with such a dynamic channel," said Eric Rollman, Executive Vice President, Animation & Television for Marvel Studios. "Marvel is uniquely positioned to bring two shows with incredible brand momentum and awareness to this partnership, and we look forward to being in business with Nicktoons to launch this programming."

Wolverine and the X-Men (26 half-hour eps):

The story begins as an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, Professor X. The beaten heroes, including Beast, Storm, Cyclops and Nightcrawler, walk away from it all but then they are given a rare glimpse into the future, where they see a world in utter ruin ... ruled by giant destructive robots. They discover the world has spiraled out of control because the X-Men have given up. So now the most legendary of all X-Men, Wolverine, must take the lead on the ultimate mission -- to prevent the world's destruction -- while fending off enemies Magneto and The Brotherhood.

Iron Man: The Animated Series (26 half-hour eps):

Tony Stark, heir to a billion-dollar corporation, lives a life of luxury, free to pursue his chief interests -- seeking extreme thrills, solving scientific mysteries and creating mind-boggling inventions. But everything goes horribly wrong when a tragic accident robs Tony of his father and nearly costs him his own life. Now dependent on his own impressive technology for survival and dedicated to battling corruption, Tony must reconcile the pressure of teenage life with the duties of a Super Hero. Inside his remarkable invention, Tony Stark is geared for high-speed flight, high-tech battles and high-octane adventure! He is Iron Man.

Iron Man and Wolverine are two of the most popular Super Heroes in the Marvel universe, with over forty years of story telling between the two characters. Reflecting this popularity, two new major motion pictures featuring these characters are being readied for the big screen, Iron Man on May 2, 2008, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine on May 1, 2009.

Marvel Studios' big screen adaptation of Marvel's legendary Super Hero Iron Man will launch into theaters on May 2, 2008. Oscar®-nominee Robert Downey Jr. stars as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the story of a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor who is kidnapped and forced to build a devastating weapon. Instead, using his intelligence and ingenuity, Tony builds a high-tech suit of armor and escapes captivity. When he uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications, he dons his powerful armor and vows to protect the world as Iron Man. The film also stars Oscar®-winner Gwyneth Paltrow and Oscar®-nominees Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges and is directed by Jon Favreau. The movie is being distributed by Paramount Pictures.

so tired of wolverine. seriously.

Posted by: Terry on March 18, 2008 at 02:11:35

Wolverine on Nickelodeon? Either he's getting neutered even more.... or the threshold for what kids can watch has just gotten lower. Not sure which is worse.

Posted by: F27 on March 18, 2008 at 02:13:32

Anyone notice USA Today's caption under the Iron Man picture says:

"Iron Man: Comic book and movie character is recast as teen for TV."

WTF???

I hope they'll show them on Nickelodeon also. Not everybody has Nicktoons, and they'll want those shows to have a big audiences.

Oops. I meant audience. Not plural.

I agree I'm getting tired of all the attention the wolverine is getting... Ok he is a cool character and all but the x-men universe don't revolve solely on him there are other cool characters and the X films should of shown that instead of playing him as the leader and cyclops as a second rate morron

Posted by: PhantomDave on March 18, 2008 at 03:06:47

Gotta agree with Terry. They already made him a kindler gentler Wolverine by taking away his motorcycle, cigar, and...oh...his knack for killing people.

He's the best there is at what he does, and what he does is cute and cuddly and in a time slot after Dora the Explorer....LOL

I'm sure the IRON MAN and the WOLVERINE cartoon
series will be good.I enjoyed the recent Iron
Man and X-MEN cartoons from the 90's.But the
new Transformers:Animated cartoon show is pretty good, but not like the show I grew up on.

Here we go! another cartoon series geared to the "kiddies"...if what F7 says is true and I'm guessing it is true... why else would it be shown on Nicktoons. Far as animation goes, ladies & gentlemen...the future does not look promising.

Posted by: what??? on March 18, 2008 at 03:49:36

yeah. wolverine rules. but ive always been a fan of nightcrawler, toad, pyro, the ones who get the least attention. they same way they did it for teen titans to the justice league. they need something for x-men teens. like xmen evolutions. that cartoon was great!

wolverine just aint a kid's character. You can't do it properly in a kids timeslot because the major drama of wolverine comes from him being a psychopath underneath it all, primed to snap at any second and go berserker. SNIKETTY SNIK! If the Wolverine wants a cartoon it should be done as an adult manga, something similar to ninja scroll in tone.

I do like Wolverine as the leader though, makes more sense than Cyclops. I mean who do you want in charge of a battle, goody two shoes who can get killed with a well thrown rock? Or, do you want an eperienced, battle hardened, nigh invulnerable, highly trained Canuk with battle strategies implanted in his head instead of his memories?

I think most people underestimate Cyclops fighting skills. Not saying he's on Deadpool's level but i'm pretty sure he can hold his own. Plus, he's a proven field leader who can make calculated decisions in the heat of battle. You don't really see that in the movies and cartoons. So yeah, i'd rather him lead than someone who's prone to beserker rage and losing control when he gets pissed. Mind you, Logan's still someone who'd be an asset if he was on your side.

Just my 2 cents. Back on topic, Nicktoons, CN, Kids WB is all the same to me. if they wanted to make a true to his roots Wolverine series, they'd do it like the Spawn series and release it on HBO or something like that. Wolverine and the X men looks too much like X men-Evolution plus a few years IMO and quite frankly, i'm getting tired of the back-to-teen-years formula.

I hope they do a cross over cartoon movie with Jimmy Neutron meets Iron Man, Jimmy helps Tony Stark to modify the iron suit (AWESOME)...or better yet Wolverine VS the Fairly Odd Parents, where Timmy wishes to have Wolverine fight the Crimson Chin!!!! This could work people!!!! As for Speed Racer.....he belongs in Nicktoons

Read the Wikipedia entry about Cyke and you'll see he can more than hold his own. He's held off Wolverine in a throwdown on more than one occasion. Also, Wolverine loses leader points because he's too homicidal. He likes to rush into things because he knows there isn't really a chance that he'll get killed, so he can afford to. Wolverine was never a unit commander or anything like that, he was never a strategist; he was an assassin; just a straight up cold blooded killer. That is not what I call sound leadership qualities. He keeps getting pushed up font because of the popularity of he character, which is strange because he's popular for all the reasons you shouldn't put him fore most in a kids show. However, they just re-write the character to make him more cranky than crazy and voila! Instant hero sauce.

Posted by: PhantomDave on March 18, 2008 at 09:18:20

Yeah that was something I was really missing in the X-Men movies was his berserker rage. Sure he got pissed a few times, but not on the level of the comic book. Pretty damn sad when a comic book is more edgy than a movie can be nowadays. Wanted to see him go nuts and have to be held back by half the team...maybe have a first person shot of what Wolvie sees and everything go red. LOL

Posted by: The Awful Truth on March 18, 2008 at 09:48:26

Hey Violet... You realize that they are not real people right? nobody has EVER "held off wolverine in a throwdown" because there never was a throwdown. It's a story. You may need to check your ritalin dosage, it'e messing with your sense of reality fanboy.

Wolverine, a cash cow. Who would of thunk it:)

you mean 2 tell me that they are all going 2 nicktoon?? man this ****ing sucks cuz now they gonna change the whole aspect of the characters and its not gonna be up 2 the fans standards.

o sutup you will wach it and be happy than why would have click on this Article what did you Expect

Posted by: Wes on March 18, 2008 at 11:36:59

Wolverine just doesn't come off right in children's cartoons. The closest thing to the core character I've seen was in 'Evolution' (well, that didn't last). You can't reduce a trained killer into a family friendly guy without ruining the core of the character. I know their hearts are in the right place, but I just can't see it working.

Posted by: Wes on March 18, 2008 at 12:01:06

The day Marvel starts working with the Adult Swim guys, then I'll be excited about their cartoons. Unfortunately the likelihood of that is probably slim.

Posted by: LucaS! on March 18, 2008 at 12:29:19

Isn't Nick teamed up with CBS or something? I'm just wondering, because I only get the basic channels, and I want to see my X-Men. So hopefully they'll show Wolverine and the X-Men on CBS, too.
