Young Logan Recast in Wolverine
Source:Superhero Hype!
March 2, 2008

In October, we reported that young actor Kodi Smit-McPhee had landed the role of Young Logan in 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Because of the change in shooting dates for "Wolverine," however, it looks like Smit-McPhee had to start shooting The Road (a thriller with Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron) and the production has instead cast 13-year-old Perth resident Troye Mellet in the part. You can read more on this casting change here.

In related news, Ain't It Cool News has posted a new set report along with photos. We're not going to reveal what is talked about and shown there, so link through at your own risk.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens in theaters on May 1, 2009.

Finally, i am first! Scratch one more off the "things i must do before i die" list

Posted by: IlWUGoalie on March 2, 2008 at 03:14:51

really not that big of a deal, most shoots were effected by the writers strike

Posted by: fenriswolf on March 2, 2008 at 03:48:00

i would have jumped ship too wolverine is great but the road is an amazing book and will probably be a great movie good luck to smit mcphee

Agree with fenriswolf. The Road is an amazing book and can't wait to see his performance as young logan in Wolverine.Did an amazing job in Romulus, My Father. Cant wait for 2 films!!

Troye looks like a kid you could bust in half like a piece of chalk, which is fitting considering that young James was a frail and sickly child. I wonder how much screen time Wolverine as a child will get? and if this kid is much of an actor.

Posted by: SpideyFreak on March 2, 2008 at 05:18:40

good! cause that smit kid is hella ugly to play wolverine. i'm just saying on looks it wouldn't make any sense being as hugh jackman isn't an ugly guy.

Good luck kid. Lots to live up to in that role.

8TH!!!!!!!!!!!! YEs yeysyeysyeysyaaaa!!!!!!!

Posted by: Andy on March 2, 2008 at 07:09:34

he'll probably only be on for bout 10 mins tops. the plot is weapon x, not wolverines school days

Posted by: Aethyrr on March 2, 2008 at 08:46:20

I really hope we don't get to see a young Wolverine making a bad face or angry face or whatever. Kid actors suck

Posted by: I7eIVIoNBoY on March 2, 2008 at 10:33:30

you said it SpideyFreak, that other kid was uuuuuuuuuuuuugly! ugly

Posted by: FireFly's Enigma on March 2, 2008 at 12:11:29

I agree with Andy. Wolverine was a boy in the late 19th century by the name of James Howlett. I know this movie is going to be about the past (before the X-Men movies) but how far back are they going to go. Maybe they will have young Wolverine only in flash backs while Logan goes thru the Weapon-X project.

To the guy who is first:

How does it feel to be a fu*kin loser now. You can scratch that off your list too.

Posted by: Kevin on March 2, 2008 at 13:03:15

To the guy who said that he hates ppl who are first:

LMAO!!!! THAT GUY IS A ****ING LOSER.

Posted by: daniel clavette on March 2, 2008 at 13:15:15

that is truly great to see.

Posted by: miklos77 on March 2, 2008 at 13:58:49

weeeaak sauce!! Knowing hollywood they will probobly get that little girly boy to sing a cute little wolverine song. Hugh Jackman has a little judy garland in him too. Have you seen his fruity musical performance?

Posted by: Kodi Smit-McPhee on March 2, 2008 at 15:07:41

i was a better choice for far....

Posted by: Sparklene on March 2, 2008 at 16:21:28

Marvel movies are really marvelous

Posted by: VocallyOutSpoken on March 2, 2008 at 17:27:58

I'm curious to see where they take this. All the speculations seems alright, but then again, we really need some movies worth watching at the theater (rather than wait for the dvd).

To anyone who thinks it's an accomplishment to be the first poster on a message board...go get laid. I promise you, being the first one to post something on a miniscule story like this one will seem a lot less of an accomplishment once you've seen a girl naked in real life.

Good luck fellaz.

Posted by: the_ddb on March 2, 2008 at 19:51:47

...have any of you even read origin? if it's anything like that yeah, young james is a weak sissy boy. you're idiots

Posted by: MrFilburn on March 2, 2008 at 20:29:42

I find it interesting that Miklos77 had such a homophobic reaction to this story... But is probably the only one here to have actually seen some of Mr Jackman's musical theatre work. In denial, perhaps?

Posted by: 31 Darwinite on March 3, 2008 at 01:27:41

miklos77! If you WERE old nuff to remember PETER ALAN you would know that he was 10 times more FRUITY then Hugh Jackman could ever be.(They cast the wrong actor for that roll). I would love to see YOU do HALF the things Hugh Jackman has done in different films? Go to the Gym and see how long it takes you to build up You're body like his. GET A ****ING CLUE KID

Posted by: Bacon Cordial on March 3, 2008 at 01:54:24

They told me I had the part. Bastards.

Posted by: lpagan on March 3, 2008 at 08:25:51

that kid would would have been perfect for the Omen.
