Although "Heroes" is on hiatus, fans can get their fix of NBC's superhero drama with the release next month of its first original soundtrack and accompanying music videos:

NBC Universal Television, DVD, Music & Consumer Products Group is set to release the original television soundtrack album to NBC's Emmy and Golden Globe nominated drama "Heroes" on March 18.

Featuring several exclusive new singles, the album is executive produced by independent music veteran Errol Kolosine ("Six Feet Under") in collaboration with "Heroes" creator & executive producer Tim Kring and "Heroes" executive producer & director Allan Arkush ("Crossing Jordan," "The Temptations" and classic cult film "Rock 'n Roll High School!"). It offers an eclectic mix of cutting-edge and classic musical artists including Bob Dylan, Panic! At The Disco, Wilco, Imogen Heap, as well as a number of collaborations from top acts including a duo with Brighton Port Authority and Iggy Pop. The album also offers The Jesus & Mary Chain's first new studio recording in more than a decade, "All Things Must Pass."

The 18-track compilation opens with the show's composers, Wendy & Lisa's "Heroes" theme song and also includes Wilco's "Glad It's Over" and the soon-to-be-released track by Panic! At The Disco, "Nine in the Afternoon." Other performers on the album include Nada Surf ("Weightless"), Death Cab For Cutie ("Jealousy Rides With Me"), Cucu Diamantes & Yerba Buena ("Maya's Theme"), Sheila Chandra ("ABoneConeDrone 3") and My Morning Jacket ("Chills"). Rounding out the soundtrack are classic cuts from Bob Dylan ("Man in the Long Black Coat") and Davie Bowie ("Heroes").

In addition, "Heroes" executive producer and director Allan Arkush has crafted five unique music video podcasts that will be exclusively available for free download on Zune Marketplace. Each video short features exclusive edits of "Heroes" footage set to select tracks from the album. Nada Surf's "Weightless" provides the soundtrack to the first video, which debuts February 29 on Zune Marketplace and MSN ().

Four additional music video podcasts will roll out on Zune Marketplace in the coming weeks, leading up to the album's release. "Heroes" fans can collect all five and easily sync them to their Zune portable media player to watch on the go.

The "Heroes" soundtrack will be available March 18 only at Best Buy stores and is available for pre-order now at www.bestbuy.com . CD tracks will also be available digitally on Zune Marketplace and other digital service providers at that time. The album is being released through the NBC Records label.

"'Heroes' is such a unique series, with a very loyal fan base," said Shelli Hill, Vice President, NBC Universal Television DVD, Music & Consumer Products. "We are thrilled to be able to offer a tremendous selection of artists and music and give the audience another way to connect with the show they love."

"For a long time music and comic dork like myself, this project has been a dream come true," said Errol Kolosine. "Allan and the team behind 'Heroes' had a commitment to making this soundtrack as unique and inspiring as the show itself, which is how we managed this stellar selection of musical heroes. It was also exciting to make the album direct with NBC, without the intrusion of any label or other entity that might have challenged the integrity of the project."

"Music is an integral part of 'Heroes,' both in the creation and inspiration for the series, and also in the finished product," said Allan Arkush. "Errol Kolosine helped us focus our grand and truly bizarre ideas into a cohesive vision and helped us assemble a powerful collection of songs that really reflect the drama and feel of our show."

"We are excited to partner with a great talent like Allan Arkush to bring the music of the soundtrack to life through creative edits of 'Heroes' footage," said Richard Winn, Director of Entertainment Development, Zune. "This podcast series is part of our plan to make more original content available via Zune Marketplace."

"We are delighted to give our customers and the show's fans the very first opportunity to own this amazing compilation of great music," noted Gary Arnold, senior entertainment officer for Best Buy.

I never even noticed the music on Heroes, except the main theme.

There's a music sound track????? you learn something every day.

This will be interesting. Especially since the Heroes theme is like: Wiiihhh-oooooo Wiiihhh-ooooo Wiiihhh-oooooo Wiiihhh-oooooo WEEE-oooooo WEEE-oooooo WEEE-oooooo WEEE-ooooooo

How do you make a song out of that? Anybody? How???

how could they leave out Eyes By Rogue Wave

i have no idea what half of those songs have to do with heroes. I can't remember them playing pop! I'm looking forward to the vids though

i am hopeing they release the season 2 dvd box set soon!! and didnt they film extra endings but they had to go with the one that closed off the season the way it did all because of the writers strike.. maybe the extra stuff will all be on the dvds?

Yeah, I really don't get how the producers can overlook "Eyes" by Rogue Wave. At least it was actually featured on the series, which is more than I can say for many of these other songs.

Wendy and Lisa are back! Hooray! They should have also reached out to Morris & the Time, and heck, got Prince himself! He did the Batman Soundtrack, didn't he!?

Heck yeah! David Bowie is on the album.

11th!!

I don't like any of those artists on the list.
Except for Davib Bowie of course.Iggy Pop is okay,Imogen Heap was good on the Blue October CD,and Nada Surf had a good song or two in the past.Bob Dylan is a legend in his own right, and
I'm getting sick of hearing about PANIC,Death Cab,and My Chem. But I love the show HEROES.But I won't be buying the soundtrack.

Hmmm an attempt to be more like Grey's Anatomy and other various shows with good soundtracks?

Kinnep I asked myself the same thing. How could they leave out Eyes! That song set the whole mood for the first season. On the flip side, I never thought they would release a soundtrack anyway. It's even.

**** HEROES!!! A completely un-original show. It's stupid how it's creator says it's completely original and not influenced by anything. All of you, go read Watchmen. . .you'll do yourselves a favor.

Posted by: i'm sure most of us here have read Watchmen, on February 28, 2008 at 20:12:18

and Watchmen isn't a completely original book either, it's premise appeared in an Outer Limits episode that aired BEFORE Watchmen was printed. oh, and you forgot to throw in the Heroes/X-Men comparison too. very few of anything made in the last 20-30 years is entirely 100% original, but more along the lines of creative evolution.

lol! B. Trask nailed it! How do you make a soundtrack that sounds like 'Wiiihhh-oooooo Wiiihhh-ooooo'! This show is in a critical stage. Another goofy season like #2 and its done.

Where's the Rogue Wave?!?!??!

Posted by: Endorian Prime on February 29, 2008 at 14:38:26

The only good thing out of this soundtrack, will be the four "clean" songs from Wendy & Lisa, which so far could be found only extracted from the series with a few lines from the actors!...
May be "Not Now But Soon - Imogen Heap" would be interesting as well.
Yet half of those songs i don't know what have to do with do show. I have almost the full OST from Season 1 and half of the songs here are not from S1! They may be from S2, cause i haven't got the time to find the S2 OST yet. But still I think it's a dumb idea to put such "unknown" songs and not to put some of the great sounds from the very best (so far) Season 1!...

Here you go the list with almost all the song from Season 1 (I've forgot to put 2 or 3 which i found in the begining of S2) :

01. Bright Eyes - Road to joy
02. Diana Krall - The Girl In The Other Room
03. Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard - Eptesicus
04. Imogen Heap - Hide and Seek
05. Krystal Meyers - Together
06. Rogue Wave - Eyes
07. Sigur Ros - Glosoli
08. Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (Album Version)
09. Basement Jaxx - Do Your Thing
10. Lizz Wright - I am Confessin
11. Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way
12. Panjabi MC - Jatt Ho Giya Sharabee
13. Wilson Pickett - Mustang Sally
14. Lily Allen - Smile
15. Scissor Sisters - Take Your Mama
16. Puffy (aka Puffy AmiYumi) - That is The Way It Is (Kore Ga Watashi No Ikirumichi)
17. Keith Urban - Where the Blacktop Ends
18. Keith Urban - Somebody Like You
19. Nidji - Heaven
20. Free - All Right Now
21. Jimi Hendrix - Red House
22. Roxy Music - Avalon
23. Nickelback - If Everyone Cared
24. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman - the intro, the outro, most of the background voices and instrumentals (including the one with the voice of Ravi Shankar from "Shanti")
...
and 2-3 which I can't remember right now. ;)
