Galactus Being Saved for Silver Surfer
Source:Newsarama
February 27, 2008

Possibly one of the biggest disappointments for any comic book fan seeing last year's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was that the world-devouring entity known as Galactus was barely shown, looking more like a giant storm cloud than the immense being with the spiked headpiece and purple outfit that we've come to know and love since his introduction during Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's run on the characters.

Well, have no fear, true believers, because the planned Silver Surfer prequel movie will give the fans what they want, a much better look at Galactus, at least according to the film's screenwriter, J. Michael Straczynski, who mentioned this at his Wondercon Spotlight panel.

As Newsarama reports from the panel:

For what the Silver Surfer movie entails Straczynski says it will cover the origin of the character. He said it will feature Galactus, noting that the latest Fantastic Four film held off on showing Galactus to reveal him for this film.

Who knows when we might actually see the movie as no director or production start has been announced, but you can read the rest of their report where JMS talks about his other movie and comic book work here.

.. still.. they could have shown his square eyes or something in the FF... they made a big mistake not showing him in FF2 and now they are saying it was all in the 'plan'.. whatever.

FIRST YAYYYY galactus is a gangster

this is great!!..JMS should be the screenwriter for
4:Rise of the Silver Surfer.
However, I don't wanna give high expectation on this.

NOW this what I'm talking about!

Althought the giant storm cloud was pretty scary looking in FF2.

Maybe this time they can show an outline of his mini skirt and go go boots.

Just don't have Tim Story come anywhere near this as a director, the last two FF movies sucked crap big time. Get a director that will compliment Straczynski's script and they have a no-brainer hit. I can definately see Speilberg doing this justice.

I agree with Benj, I saw Galactus in the cloud. Maybe the "Cloud" as we call it was some sort of camouflage for the world-ship, Taa II.

YES!!!! I feel the next Galactus will be a great Galactus!...

Posted by: Aethyrr on February 27, 2008 at 08:37:00

We can only hope to see a proper Galactus.. and a proper Silver Surfer.. and a proper Fantastic Four..

Posted by: dmac on February 27, 2008 at 08:51:05

I agree. I hope they cast Galactus to play Galactus. I think he will do well in the role with his experience being Galactus all those years.

I actually liked the cloud idea. it gives galactus a "force of nature" feel as opposed to a giant man and purple suit and a goofy helmet

Posted by: Jacob on February 27, 2008 at 09:02:48

I liked the storm idea. How were people going to get the idea of a gigantic purple being just out there in space? It was cool how they did it and I am looking forward to this Galactus.

Posted by: Antman on February 27, 2008 at 09:07:04

Although I would have liked to see a bit more of Galactus, I did like the storm cloud idea and you can obviously see the Galactas shape by the shadow he casts on Jupiter. A gigantic purple guy has never been cool to me, a mix of that and the stormcloud would be best IMO.

I think they are covering Tim Story's ass. The movie completely sucked. It could have been great. Lousy director, lousy movie. We knew what we were in for the minute they said it would be a 90-minutes movie. .

Posted by: somedude on February 27, 2008 at 09:23:17

they should have ended ff with a bunch of doctor doom robots attacking the team while the real doom escaped, and then wham! everything darkens, silver surfer rides in, in front of galactus and tells them to prepare for the end. instead we get so-so movies that don't feel connected to the marvel universe. a bunch of teases. shame.

This is a load of crap. It wasn't in the plan, they realized after FF2 was released that they ****ed up.

PS: c-REEZY is a moron.

hur hur hur... dmac, I like ur sense of irony... how easily do we mere mortals forget that all of this hoopla about "comics-to-film" is a simply one flight of FANTASY into another!!!

Don't get me wrong, it's all great fun and escapism from this sometimes dreary, sometimes depressing, all-too-real life, and I must admit that I for one am hotly anticipating the adaptation of Ol' Shellhead to the Silver Screen... But ultimately?

It's. Not. Real.

Deal, people, DEAL!!!

Who gives a crap. All the Marvel movies suck except for X-Men 1 and 2, and Blade 1. FF 1 and 2 had some of the worst acting and writing ever, so anyone involved with those movies should banned from making any more.

Posted by: the dane on February 27, 2008 at 09:32:51

we all have to remember that a big studio movie has to appeal to a very large audience... But i would also say that a mixture of the cloud element and physical being would be good... The cloud was a good element, but it is hard to think of the cloud as a person/being when no dialog is said between him and the surfer... But maybe there is a reason for the producers and the director to turn him into a clould... like maybe because he has the surfer as his messenger and symbol of the things to come, so he has no use for appearing in his usual form.... But what do i know, they do take liberties when writing a script...

Until then::::: HULK and IRONMAN

Oh, and before I forget... and I apologise for the "first" haters, but it's become my little pet fun obsession: TWENTY-THIRD!!!

Anyway... Antman AND the dane... I like where your heads are at with the "concept" idea, and here's why:

At the end of the day, Tim Story has done what I believe is as good a job as he could in bringing some - frankly - pretty wild characters into the real world, and I think that to start introducing even wilder types like the huge humanoid presence that is Galactus EXACTLY as he exists in the comics is asking even the most die-hard of fans to suspend their disbelief more than is to be expected!

What I propose, in the spirit of Antman's "concept" idea, is something like what Alex Ross did with several well-known DC characters in his seminal work "Kingdom Come": make him elemental in appearance. Something along the lines of Dr. Midnight - show a familiar outline or aspect of his costume, but replace the "humanoid" with smoke or fire or something like that... does that make sense?

Posted by: The Rogue on February 27, 2008 at 09:44:54

The main reason the DID NOT show Galactus is because he would not translate well to film as a giant in blue and purple with a mini-skirt. THAT is why they didn't show him -- because they couldn't come up with a believable design. So if JMS wants to show The Big G in a prequel... then go for it. Better late than never!

I am glab to see galactus will be on silver surfer movies and he will be just like in the comics book.

Let the fanboy *****ing begin!

Posted by: Matt Mosley on February 27, 2008 at 09:50:06

I love the first FF movie but the second sucked more than I can say - they should have gobe with the other script they had.

I mean from the writer of "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" - whose idea was it to give him the job?
