Here is the official press release from Warner Home Video about Batman: Gotham Knight:
DC Comics, Warner Premiere, Warner Home Video and Warner Bros. Animation have collaborated to create a unique Batman experience in Batman: Gotham Knight. The all-new, original movie will arrive July 8, 2008 on DVD and Blu-ray Disc. Order due date is June 3, 2008. The original movie will also be available OnDemand and Pay-per-View as well as available for download on the same day as release date, July 8, 2008.
Batman: Gotham Knight is a fresh and exciting new entry into the Batman mythos, spinning out of a 40-year history in animation including the Emmy®-winning Batman: The Animated Series, widely considered a pivotal moment in American animation. A cross section of distinguished creators, award winning producers, and acclaimed writers weave six interlocking stories that reveal Bruce Wayne’s journey to Dark Knight, each with stylish art from some of the world’s most revered animation visionaries.
Batman: Gotham Knight was headed by an impressive list of directors who have brought their distinctly different anime styles to the classic Batman character. The production was divided among three renowned studios – Studio 4ºC, Production I.G and Madhouse – and included the truly inimitable visions of directors Shojiro Nishimi, Futoshi Higashide, Hiroshi Morioka, Yasuhiro Aoki and Toshiyuki Kubooka. With stories written by several of the most talented writers of film, comic books, and animation, including Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Josh Olson (A History of Violence), David S. Goyer (Batman Begins), Emmy®-winner Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series), Jordan Goldberg (Associate Producer, The Dark Knight), and award-winning comics writers Greg Rucka and Brian Azzarello, Batman: Gotham Knight presents thrilling new adventures of Batman that spotlight several of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains, including the fearsome Scarecrow, the freakish Killer Croc and the unnerving marksman known as Deadshot. Batman: Gotham Knight is produced by Emma Thomas (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Michael Uslan & Benjamin Melniker (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), Toshi Hiruma and Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series).
Batman: Gotham Knight will be available on DVD for $24.98 SRP. There will also be a 2-disc Special Edition DVD available for $29.98 SRP which contains additional bonus features. All the content from the 2-disc Special Edition DVD will be available on Blu-ray Disc for $34.99 SRP.

Posted by: STC on February 25, 2008 at 14:09:06
Why does it looks like crap? Its looks really good actually.

YAY! BLUERAY!
Posted by: Jay on February 25, 2008 at 14:11:31
Because anyone who screams "FIRST" on the comment is a mindless idiot who's only out to get attention. Don't even give him any.
I can't wait for this!

This is going to be the best DC Universe Animated DVD yet. It looks very promising and will be competely different from other Batman cartoons. Can't Wait.

Posted by: meister on February 25, 2008 at 14:20:39
It should be interesting to see the Bat Done in anime Style. I agree on the first thing. It makes you look really stupid.

NINTH!
moron
Posted by: david on February 25, 2008 at 14:48:27
And to all of those Blu-Ray luddites out there who thought a single HD format would bring prices down and make consumers switch to HD - I present to you a $10-more-expensive-than-DVD Blu-Ray release...
...sheesh...
Posted by: Riaz on February 25, 2008 at 15:05:11
what happened to Teen Titans Judas Contract?
Posted by: Tad on February 25, 2008 at 15:10:23
As interesting as this looks stylistically, I doesn't feel quite in keeping with the "Batman Begins"/"Dark Knight" universe. Nolan is intentionally keeping it as rooted in the real world as possible, and this looks more comic bookish, not that that's a bad thing. I still look forward to it.

As I've stated in the past, I'm not a very big fan of anime, some of the art (especially backgrounds) is breath-taking, but on the whole I'm not too keen on the formulic character style & choppy movment of the format. I am, however a HUGE Batman fan and will buy this on release day regardless. That being said, I have to say that from the preview of this, it looks as if it will be 50/50 in coolness factor. Some interpretations look way sweet while others look...meh. I'll put my faith in the stories though. With the talented writers on board, it should be at least interesting and worth the duckets.
Here's to hoping that we'll all be blown away!

This will be as 50/50 in "coolness" as the Animatrix...some of which was truly dung.
Posted by: Reiko on February 25, 2008 at 15:42:17
Okay. I loved the animatrix (for a while) and seeing Batman taken on by a multitude of different directors in different stories is something I look forward to. Whoever said it looked like crap was an idiot (don't worry guy, if it really ends up to be crappy then Im the one who'll look like an idiot.) They have man-bat, scarecrow, deadshot (or whatever his name is) and Killer Croc so far so its looking good. I'm wondering how it will connect Begins and TDK together (Batman cleaning up the streets after the events in Begins?). In either case I have got to see this movie; any real Batman fan would say the same.
Posted by: Kevin on February 25, 2008 at 15:52:36
Seriously, I think this looks like crap too. Also, I am personally sick of seeing anime everywhere. Yes... there are some good series... why no good american animation though?
Especially for Batman of all things. eck.
Proceed with your comments of calling me an idiot for not buying into the ani-Bat.

It's alarming how many people who post on these blog sections cannot construct a basic ENGLISH sentence, yet seem to communicate with each other just fine.
PATHETIC.
But getting back to the topic, this Gotham Knights thing looks very ****ty, as I hate Jap-animation and hate manga because it's outrageous and stupid and silly.
The Batman cartoon in the late 90's was the best, nothing will ever come close unless they do the same exact thing and bring it back without the silly updated batman story. Keep it simple: Bruce Wayne, Alfred, The Joker, etc. No CROC bull**** or the "new" batman. Please.
Posted by: coheed36 on February 25, 2008 at 15:59:43
i really wanna see that bob kane story...i read an article that he was an ******* and stole ideas from alot of creators and hardly ever drew...i wonder.
Posted by: Triad on February 25, 2008 at 16:02:18
Yeah, I gotta agree with Kevin: Why anime? I have to believe that there has GOT to be some quality animation coming out of somewhere other than Japan! Is it because it's dirt-cheap?
Oh well, I'm still crossing my fingers for this new "Batmanime" DVD
Posted by: Q on February 25, 2008 at 16:04:22
Its about time Batman is shown animated as a dark character...not really suited for children...I'll buy it asap
Posted by: automatic_ab on February 25, 2008 at 16:28:55
Josh Bond obviously has a super power of his own; the ability to derive images out of press releases. This has to be the case since he says, "Not going to buy this, looks crap." Oh and btw, stop falling asleep in you grammar class dude, it's starting to show. I am quite intrigued by the anime take. I too am a huge BatFan and while a little skeptical right now, I'll purchase it nonetheless.
Posted by: RivenWinner on February 25, 2008 at 16:37:06
Looks awesome, can't wait.
Posted by: k18 on February 25, 2008 at 16:37:49
so who will voice Batman since Bale isn't doing it? I thought the press release would annouce the voice actors or something. I am totally looking forward to seeing the WW, Flash, and Green Lantern animated movies. (I am mostly looking forward to the Flash one)
Posted by: the_ddb on February 25, 2008 at 17:00:11
i don't agree about the animatrix comparison...there are legit film and comic writers on this to move along a great story, and not just film and comic writers, but guys who've done batman before...i kind of wish they'd have gotten bale and maybe paul dini to do a story, but i'm still stoked
Posted by: Batman Legend on February 25, 2008 at 17:04:41
I agree with triads first comment. IM not really a fan of animes but what adds to batmans story and character is gotham city itself and i really think the breath taking anime backgrounds will do it justice. Its a shame that bales not doing it and im quite upset batman isnt being done in the bruce timm style animation like the 90's cartoons (coz i was looking forward to seeing the movie batman in that style)but regardless im smashing open my piggy bank and getting it. (not i dont really have a PIGGY BANK)
