Scooper 'Chaos Bringer' has revealed on Superhero Hype!'s message boards that "Friday Night Lights" star Taylor Kitsch will play Gambit (AKA Remy LeBeau) in director Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Kitsch has signed a three-picture deal.

He'll be joining Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Danny Huston (William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the 20th Century Fox release, opening May 1, 2009.

Leading up to the events of X-Men, "Wolverine" tells the story of Wolverine's epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

In related news, we've posted a hi-res version of the new Wolverine photo here! Scooper 'Darthjul' also tells us that "Wolverine" will be shooting in Glebe Point Park, Sydney on February 29.

holy crap!!! finally adding Gambit to an X-Men film! bout damn time marvel

I was crossing my fingers for Josh Holloway to play Gambit in a standalone movie. Was never expecting to see the character crop up in "Wolverine."

Hope this guy can do the job well.

why???
why???

this was supposed to be josh holloway's role!!
this guy is too young!
worst. casting. everrr

Josh Holloway's probably unavailable due to Lost starting to film again. Just a thought.

Posted by: Valo on February 19, 2008 at 03:10:41

Gambit huh? I wonder how he's going to fit into the movie.

I really hope they don't turn it into one big Marvel role call and forget about that little thing called story.

Josh Holloway was asked to play Gambit in X-Men 3 but kindly refused, stating that his character on "Lost," Sawyer, was too much like Gambit already. I mean, a smooth-talking Southern con-man? They're the same thing. He just doesn't want to be type cast, as awesome a job as he'd do.

hellllls yeah cant wait to see this move n im not even a big marvel fan but the x movies were sweet well ok so was all 3 spidermans ok so marvel definatly has the ups in the movie dept. dc only has batman begins so far to ride on.

Posted by: steven on February 19, 2008 at 03:19:33

are you serious?
they are nothing alike.
one can throw exploding cards.
and i dont even know about the other one. i dont watch lost
i read on the internet though that they didnt even put the character of gambit in the script because the character was to similar to wolverine's. isnt it funny that his first appearance in a movie happens to be the wolverine one

They've announced what 5 other characters? Hardly a role call.
Holloway doesn't look anything like Gambit is supposed to look and this is Wolverine early on, remember.
This kid looks way more like Remy than that Holloway cat, just cause his LOST character is a "bad boy" doesn't mean he can pull of the suave bayou boy with an edge, he has a tendency to over act his bad boy-ness on LOST and I think would ruin the good nature of Remy.

This movie is getting interesting.. Wolvie, gambit, the blob, sabertooth, stryker, silver fox, and maybe deadpool! WOW.. This may be the best x-men yet! So far it has all the coolest characters.. And with no halley berry, Yes!

Well I have a mini series comic that was just Wolverine and Gambit, so they have a history of pinning the characters up quite a bit, even given the fact that the characters are strikingly similar, though I have more faith in this after seeing X3, I dont think they can do any worse of a job as they did in that, so thats my relieving thought.

"they are nothing alike."
"i dont watch lost"

Then you have no point of reference.... ass.

I've been waitin for the Ragin' Cajun to be in an Xmen movie since they announced the FIRST xmen was going into production.

YAY!

Hmm... Helooks the part. Personally I've never seen any of Kitsch's work, but like I said, he does look the part. And whattayamean he's too young? Gambit is a young guy.

I was hoping for Guy Pearce but this guy has the look. When Rogue's powers come back we can see that whole thing go down.

HOLLY CRAP!YES!
the x-men franchise is going to be bigger and better! i can't wait to see this!

Posted by: Timevacume on February 19, 2008 at 04:21:22

I hope they dont screw this one up!

Finnaly Gambit!

I hope Gambit gets his own film too.

Posted by: steven on February 19, 2008 at 04:29:23

"they are nothing alike."
"i dont watch lost"

Then you have no point of reference.... ass.

actually remy leballs, i do. its obvious, even without watching the show, that sawyer does not throw exploding cards whereas gambit can. so the fact that holloway finds them too similar to the point where he turns down the role is a little bemusing to me. i mean who wouldnt want to portray a badass marvel character with the ability to make things explode?

Posted by: bigmanpacetke on February 19, 2008 at 04:29:45

please please oh please don't take the cajun accent from him. Just like they did to Storms african accent, and the slow dissentergration of rogues southern accent in all 3 movies. And yes i know Storm had it in part one, but good ol halle barry really sold it didn't she? pssh

Posted by: Glenn on February 19, 2008 at 04:55:16

its smart they cast someone young since it takes 15 years before the first xmen...so lets say hes 20 here by xmen he will be 35 now if they cast josh that would make Gambit what? 40 mid 40's

Posted by: blibblab on February 19, 2008 at 05:02:17

Wow, don't know who this guy is but he looks so like Gambit...I can imagine him with red eye lenses and the costume. I'd have to see what he's like as an actor but great casting all the same. Wolvie is shaping up to be a great movie!!!

Posted by: NIMAX on February 19, 2008 at 05:03:38

wowwww!!! I want to see this movie! It will be bigger!!!

Posted by: Valkor on February 19, 2008 at 05:37:33

W00T!!! This is the best news by far and about damn time Remy gets put in a film. Hopefully this opens up to hiw own film if this guy can pull it off

Posted by: Silvermoth on February 19, 2008 at 05:40:05

I wonder if there is a point adding Gambit in a movie without Rogue?

Posted by: batboy999 on February 19, 2008 at 06:02:41

We had to sit through 2 good x-men movies and a live-action cartoon full of hypodermic needles and frasier crane with no gambit and they bring him into a wolverine movie? would it have been so hard earlier? a trench coat and a deck of playing cards. that's about all the work that went into the costumes in the last movie anyway. what is it with crappy comic movies lately?

Posted by: Deins on February 19, 2008 at 06:15:13

In think everyone is forgeting that GAMBIT IS FRENCH !!! so WTF do you want that guy from lost???? PS: LOST is the worst tv show EVER !!!
