Why Goku is so slim in the movie???
Posted by: Spydakikass on February 23, 2008 at 04:32:02
Goku is slim because he is a young man and this isnt a cartoon.
Get it through your heads people, live action movies dont work well if they look like cartoons. Its grounded in reality there fore it needs to resemble reality, other wise audiences wont associate with the characters.

I'm with Spydakikass on this one. I'd lose MY interest if DragonBall looked like a cartoon. They'd have to give the actors at least three steroid injections per HOUR to get them to how the characters are in the anime.

This movie is going to be horrible. All they had to do is make it fully CG like Final Fantasy: Advent Children and then It would'nt look so crazy for a man to be screaming and grunting for 10 minutes trying to throw a kamehameha wave

I say, don't judge until you watch the damn film.
I mean, look at Transformers. There was so much hype and so many people claiming it would suck majorly. But then, everyone was saying "Oh my God, this movie is freakin' fantastic!"
Don't judge until you watch. Just... pretend to enjoy the pics, let them tide you over for the time being. August will come sooner than you think.

Yeah,I mean even in the anime Goku as a young man is said to be slim give Justin Chatwin time if sequels go on I bet he has really worked out,he looks buff and more muscular than in his roles in war of the worlds or josie and the ***** cats.

whats the big deal i rather the movie look a lil different than the cartoon it doesnt make sense to try to mimic the cartoon cuz its look as bad as the last live action movie
Posted by: MerlinTheGroovy on March 18, 2008 at 01:03:48
Im betting this movie will turn out ok but just an update guys, its no longer comming out August 15th 2008, its been pushed back till april 2009 so as to buff the CG up to par with other movies.

a few key points i would like to put out there .... they have not started filming this movie and justin chatwin is still in training with 87eleven ya they trainers of the blockbuster hit "300" they are also responsible for the martial arts that took place in "the matrix" ..... and the biggest plus ( in my opinion) ... stephen chow (kung fu hustle , shaolin soccer) is behind the scenes .. these key points give me hope for the movie ... and i hope noone really expects for goku's hair to look like the cartoon ... im sure they will do the best they can but i dont think this movie should b judged on goku's hair ( believe it or not some ppl are making a big deal about this .... yes over HAIR)

Okay, to all the people saying "Oh no! They ruined Dragonball Z!", maybe you need to go back and watch that show. Why? Because Dragonball Z was the dumbest show of the 90's. Lamest characters, most repetitive storylines, and ****ing stupid "fights". Oh fights is actually the wrong word. I mean 5 episode-long segments of characters progressively yelling louder and louder as a bad-looking glow animation is cycled over and over, followed by the opponent going "OH MY GOD! HE'S A LEVEL FIVE! B-BUT HOW?!!"

This movie really has nothing to do with Dragonball Z: it's more based off the original Dragonball, specifically the Piccolo saga.

What's worrisome is the lack of faith the studio seems to have in this project. The two "stars" are certainly B-list, the casting agent has never worked outside of Mexico; yet most of the cast is Hong Kong action castoffs (they probably owe Stephen Chow for past work). Even the whole premise that Goku is going to be an "ordinary high school student" bit is rubbing me the wrong way.
The only things I have hope for is Marsters' performance (having dealt with a rabid fanbase before, he knows not to screw up) and the fact that Stephen Chow seems to have some respect for the original story.
BTW, Chow Yun-Fat should be Tien, not Roshi. Is it THAT hard to find a dirty old man? Hell Dana Carvey needs work and could do a dynamite job.

All i got to say is that i've been waiting for this movie since i was 8 and its about time. I dont care what none of these haters say, either way this movie will be a dream come true for most Dragon Ball Z fans

Fans have every right to complain about appearances. First of all, Goku's appearance has been the same throughout the ENTIRE series run. That includes every manga page, every anime episode. At least, this is true for his head. Obviously his body grew as he matured. From the pictures it would seem that Chatwin carries some of Goku's essence and so I'm hopeful, but Rossum better do a damn good job and put on a turquoise wig. Honestly though, it wouldn't be that big a deal to style his hair in the same SHAPE. Obviously it would be a bit troublesome to try the same VOLUME.
By the way, yes, there is a big difference between Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. However, plot and character development is where the series truly shines. When Toriyama was in control, every character came around full circle. The only reason episodes took so long is because studios had trouble adapting the manga to screen. This produced gaps where they couldn't fill the time slot properly, and had to stretch the existing story. The fights were actually well done, but the real explanation for why episodes or arcs took so long is because they were all part of one ongoing plot. This is in contrast to most other shows which have episodes lacking substantial connections.
Why is it bad that Goku is in high school? His life in the manga left him without society's influence. He had no selfish motives like everyone else in the story.
As for muscle tone, yes, it would be extremely difficult to be as rock chisled as the real characters are, but having the muscle mass isn't as farfetched. Brandon Routh put on the muscle for the new Superman movie. Chatwin can do it too. Besides, it's explained in the later DBZ episodes that they have more strength without as much muscle as humans. The second level of Super Saiyan produces denser muscle with higher strength. A more refined version of what I mentioned.
No doubt I'll get responses mocking or dismissing me as a DBZ fanatic, but believe it or not..I'm not the most hardcore of fans. In fact, I haven't had much contact with Dragon Ball in a few years. Sure I'm excited to see it turning live, but we'll just have to see. If it doesn't please the fans, then I'm sorry but they failed. If you don't like the original, too bad. No matter what the mainstream public thinks, Dragon Ball is one of the most successful manga/anime series out there. It's one of the reasons we have anime in the U.S. It's why I even started paying attention to anime. So don't bash the fans for being a bit concerned. They should be.

gosh i feel really terrified that if they change goku`s outfit and age and hairstyle it really mishapes the film i mean c`mon what fan of anime cant recongnize goku by his hair

Just wait & see, That's what I can said, I believe that the director can do something special that we can't expected, even the actors actress's looks & sizes is not the same in the comic. They're one year left, & still in production. We can't just simply summarize that the movie was suck, it is far too early to summarize it.. I hope those gave bad comment please respect & reconsider after a while.

As things are turning out, I can only hope those who are still holding hope for this flick will convert to the Japanese-led boycott movement, or else they'll be jumping off cliffs.

As a huge fan of the Dragonball and DragonballZ series im excited but as well worried that this movie wont be as good as it should be. I heard rumors that some characters from the original series wont be in the movie, that would ****ing blow. the reason i got caught on to the series is because of the unique characters and enviroments. I dont kno i guess all we can do is watch the movie and judge it by ourselves.
Posted by: Amy on August 30, 2008 at 22:20:36
Don't judge the movie or the actors without giving them a chance. Watch the movie and THEN you can exchange opinions. It's not fair for you guys to try and poison the minds of others who really want to see the movie.
and remember the movie is supposed to be adapted into a more "realistic tone" so don't expect other stuff that you can only find in the original stuff.
Posted by: alex on September 4, 2008 at 09:03:30
to Amy- No, dont watch this movie! theres no way anyone can defend it. dont give these people any more money. they ll just keep screwing beloved stories and shows until they realize that people need quality not just devotion to a series.
Posted by: Lizzie on September 19, 2008 at 09:17:49
You know, not for anything, but if they're doing Dragon Ball (and not DBZ), shouldn't Goku be YOUNGER? He wasn't 17 in the manga or the anime - why does he look so much older here? Have they aged him? If so, Epic Fail.
Posted by: Amy on September 20, 2008 at 15:55:58
whatever you say Alex but i am so watching it! lol
