It's Chatwin vs. Marsters in Dragon Ball Z

20th Century Fox has set Justin Chatwin (The Invisible, War of the Worlds) to play Goku and James Marsters ("Smallville," "Angel," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") as the villain Piccolo in Dragon Ball Z.

In the big screen adaptation, Goku is a powerful warrior who protects the Earth from an endless stream of rogues bent on dominating the universe and controlling the mystical objects from which the film takes its name.

Actor/writer/director Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) is producing. Final Destination helmer James Wong will direct from a script he wrote. Ben Ramsey wrote an earlier draft.

The story is based on Akira Toriyama's popular manga that has spawned graphic novels, a long-running TV series and more than 25 video games. The Jump Comics division of Tokyo-based Shueisha published the "Dragon Ball" manga.

With shooting scheduled to begin later this month, Fox will bow the sci-fi/adventure worldwide Aug. 15. Chatwin has already begun training with 87Eleven, the stunt performance company behind the action sequences in The Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy,Mr. & Mrs. Smith and 300.

well there are alot of ppl that are worried about this movie being done the right way ... but i have faith knowing that 87Eleven (The Matrix (martial arts), and 300 (body building).)and Stephen Chow (shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle) are on the same team with this .... 87eleven and stephen chow these two names alone give me hope ...... and the costume designer is the same person who did apocalypto......So i guess only time will tell...in the mean time lets keep our fingers crossed and hope this movie is done the right way.

I first thought that Vegeta was the villain. I must of mis-read or they changed their minds. However I think having Piccolo as the villain is not the way to go. Piccolo, for the most of DBZ, was on the side of Goku. I wish they would have Vegeta go against Goku, but I can see why they're not. Two characters of the same species may not be as appealing to the eye as a Saiyan fighting someone who looks different. I say if they wanted that they should bring in Cell, but then that story is more complex with Dr.Gero, Future Trunks, and Freeza. IMO, I would rather see that on the big screen. Maybe for the sequel.

I collect anything dragonball, dragonball z, and dragonball gt i am very excited to here about this movie and hope that u can make it as loveable and exciting as the cartoon version

I can't wait to see the real movie. I wonder how it's gonna turn out. I wonder if they will continue with another film. It should be called Dragon ball Z. I can't believe we have to wait a whole year. I wanna see it now!

You know it the DRAGON BALL movie, not DBZ. Of course King Piccolo would be a great villain, and it would set the series right up for more movies, including those based on the original series, and then Z.

goku is going to be scrawnney because this is him in his early twenties he has trained he hasn't trained for universal battle he just learned the KAMEHAMEHA he hasn't died yet these are the world tournament days no namek no super sayian no trunks,vegeta, or gohan so stop wining before there is no DRAGON BALL Z and we all want to see how their going to make chatwin a super sayian.

DRAGONBALL not DBZ. So it makes perfect sense the Vegeta isn't in it, as well as Piccolo being the villain. Fans of the series will know how this ends though. Before a lot of you diss it, you have to give it a trailer chance. This will be a hard movie to pull off.

i am SO excited for this movie! i want it to come out RIGHT NOW but, alas it cannot.
i read on wikipedia that this is the first
in a trilogy, so fear not db/dbz/dbgt fans!
maybe vegeta & freeza & all the other good
characters will appear.

Real DBZ Talk!!!!!!!!

Ok guys(gals) Fox isn't really known for doin great flims justice but as for the DragonBall franchaise, they've done it proper even with the Creater Akria T. approveing all ideas with the 1st flim.
Now most of you would love to see a trailer of DBZ with JUST Goku turning into. SS!!! Not gonna happen, if there gonna do these 3 flims,better make a good foundation. Here we go!!

1.DragonBall Evo.(Goku vs Lord P.)

2.DragonBall Z(Goku vs Piccolo)From Enemys to Piccolo careing Gokus GoldenChild GOHAN)

3.DragonBall Z II(GoKu vs ???-Raddiitz, or Vegeta/Napa)

Now this granrantee of 3 flims with a base like this, You can now say and have a new fan base willing to see 3 more flims like…

4.DragonBallZ III(Goku vs Freiza)See a SS Transformation Trailer and now the world is hookd!

5.DBZ 4(Goku,Gohan,Trunks,Vegeta,Piccolo vs Cell)nuff said!!!!

Remember Tru & Non-Tru fans the Cartoons are the Shh and while watching them you've always wanted a live flim of DBZ, So here you go Yake them however you like but when you see Goku turn SS you can go back and tell Anyone the orgin of Goku from DB Evo. To the last flim with PRIDE!!!!
