Jessica Biel in Talks for Justice League!
Source:Variety
September 25, 2007

Jessica Biel is in talks to play Wonder Woman in Warner Bros.' all-star superhero film Justice League of America, reports Variety.

The potential deal marks the first piece of casting to emerge from the DC Comics-based ensemble project, which is expected to feature Superman, Batman, the Flash and Aquaman in addition to Wonder Woman.

George Miller (Happy Feet) will direct the big screen adaptation. Kieran and Michele Mulroney wrote the script.

Biel is filming the indie drama Powder Blue, which wraps in October, opposite Forest Whitaker. She will then segue to A Woman of No Importance, based on the play by Oscar Wilde. That leaves room on the actress' schedule for "Justice League," which Warner is fast-tracking as a project before any potential strikes. However, the film's likelihood hinges on the studio's ability to assemble a cast of superheroes in a small window of time.

The trade says the studio declined comment, saying that it prefers to announce an entire cast rather than piecemeal deals.

As much as i love Jessica.... I can't see her playing The Amazon Princess

I agree. I could definitely see her as another character like black canary, but for wonderwoman we need someone a little older and taller. She's definitely got the hot factor wonderwoman has!

Jessica Biel cannot and should not play WONDER WOMAN.

She might make a decent HAWKGIRL though.

This has already been shelved. Look at the date.

Why can't she be Wonder Woman, Mr. Matrix? I could totally see her in that role.

Assuming they recast...

Gadfly, it has to be "in the can" (principle filming completed) before it is "shelved." Production has been indefinitely scrapped on George Miller's botched abortion!

Ken is so smart. "It has to be in the can to be shelved". I wish the rest of us could be so smart and exact on a useless board.

Hey, just doing my part to be a pretentious self-righteous jerk to satisfy the envious masses with my shrewd and calculating wit!

Anyways, I think not only does Biel have the face and body for the job, but the acting ability as well( I liked her in the illusionist opposite Ed Norton). Though I am not certain about her height. I think Wonder Woman, being an Amazon, should be something like 6' tall. I think with special FX and special camera angles they could easily pull off the illusion. Consider the hobbits (I know its the opposite effect, but the principle is the same) of LOTR.

FYI: a film can be "shelved" at any stage of production - from the script stage to release date!..

This news is over a year old and she will not be playing Wonderwoman because the gods have graced us with the canceling of the Justice league film.
I mean Jessica Biel as Wonderwoman! she dose not have the body type at all for the role. SHE"S NOT EVEN GREEK!

This post is over a year old,but I`ll still comment on the subject because I still think a Wonder Woman movie should be made. The JLA movie has been scrapped(thank God) and according to Entertainment Weekly before the project had been scrapped,Jessica Biel has already turned down the role of Wonder Woman.Who knows why?Was it the over inflated ego of a rising actress or the inability to take the source material seriously?Again, who knows why?But again, according to Entertainment Weekly,Biel wants to be seen as more than just a hot actress with firm, toned body.

It`s said that Jessica Biel wants to be seen as the type of actress who gets the type of dramatic and serious roles that Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman are known for getting. It`s also said that Biel felt like she wouldn`t be the type of actress who wins Oscars(or at the very least the type of actress who could get nominated for Oscars) with a role like Wonder Woman under her belt.

I don`t believe in ever comparing ourselves to other people because all people are different. But seeing as Jessica Biel was essentially already trying to compare herself to Natalie Portman by wanting to be seen in the same league of acting talent as Natalie Portman I don`t feel bad in paraphrasing Lloyd Bentsen when he famously laid the smackdown on Dan Quayle in the 1988 Vice-Presidential Debate:''Jessica Biel, you`re no Natalie Portman.'' I think Jessica Biel is one of the most beautiful women I`ve ever seen.I also think that Jessica Biel isn`t half-bad as a actress.I have no doubt that Biel would`ve been a great Wonder Woman. But Biel didn`t want the role. What then, were DC Comics and Warner Brothers supposed to do?Hound Biel until she relented and changed her mind?No still means no,last I heard.

Biel turned down the role and for whatever reason she just didn`t want to be Wonder Woman. The same way Al Pacino turned down the role of Han Solo, the same way Josh Hartnett turned down the role of Superman, the same way Alicia Witt turned down the role of Mary Jane Watson, the same way Daniel Craig turned down the role of Thor.I still say a solo Wonder Woman movie should be made, nut obviously without Jessica Biel as Wonder Woman. If Biel said no,then people need to reading the writings on the wall and move on.

Here`s who I think should be Wonder Woman in a potential solo Wonder Woman movie:Australian Supermodel and actress Megan Gale.Gale has the right type of statuesque and otherworldly beauty needed for the role. But with that being said,Wonder Woman is so much more than just a pretty face.Jessica Biel may not have taken the role of Wonder Woman all that seriously, but for I for one, think that in order to play the role of a character like the Amazonian Princess Diana,a actress will have to possesse great acting skill in order to better help facilitate the supsension of disbelief.

But first Gale will have to prove herself-and I`ve said this before.Megan Gale should do a independent film first-just to prove her acting mettle(maybe even do two or three independent films first). It`s the same way that Mark Wahlberg validated himself from his laughable past as White Rapper ''Marky Mark'' by acting in a diverse range of good dramatic films. Now most people,(myself included) take Mark Wahlberg very seriously as a talented dramatic actor because he put in that work to earn his respect. That`s what Megan Gale needs to do because right now people don`t really know that much about her and we need strong and sufficient proof of what she can do.People aren`t taking the idea of Gale potentially being Wonder Wonder that seriously and if she ever actually got the role and a solo movie saw the light-that would be bad for the movie.
If folks don`t believe in what they`re seeing even when they know that what they`re seeing isn`t at all possible-expecially when they know that what they`re seeing isn`t at all possible-than the movie`s entire intent is rendered moot.

It`s like trying to believe in the then-22 year old Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane in Superman Returns or that Indiana Jones could survive a nuclear explosion by hiding inside of a lead-lined fridge like he did in The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.I just couldn`t do it.And that just shatters the last vestiges of supsension of disbelief.
DC Comics needs to have it`s big three stand and deliver long before the prospect of a JLA movie is ever again even entertained(and I don`t think it ever should be-it should be left to burn in development hell).Batman`s already proven himself,Superman needs to be rebooted and recasted and written by Mark Millar and a solo Wonder Woman movie with Megan Gale wielding the lasso of truth should be made!

JRobert-What an awesome and well articulated post(s)! I enjoyed reading your well thought musings. I do have some questions and objections.
1. Ledger, whom I didn't regard as that fine of an actor(Consider "The Order" or "A Knight's Tale), snubbed the role of Joker until having been persuaded by Nolan. It turned out, IMO, to be his best(and last)!
2. After TDK's success and eventuall award nods Biel may change her mind. That was near 4 years ago. Possibilities.
3. Gale is smokin'! No doubt about that. But like you pointed out, she is unproven. Yet in your last part of the post it seemed that you have her in the bag for WW. The last thing I would want is to see a dry piece of toast butcher the role the way Routh did Supes.
4. Though Millar's vision far exceeds Singer's bastard version in much of every way. I feel that the anticlimatic ending would be just as much of a put off as SR. Despite being well thought out and written. Supes should be an unending serial of stories and events that should inspire hope. Only changing out the actors as they grow too old.
5. You were able to suspend disbelief for the Temple Of Doom??? But not Kingdom of Krystal Skull?
6. Finally, I don't think it HAS to be either Biel or Gale. It should just be the right one. There are 6 Billion people on the Earth. More than half are women. We can find her! I know she's probably too old now, but in her prime Angie Harmon looked good. She's half Greek to boot!
Thoughts? Feedback?
