Kevin McKidd on the Thor Rumors
September 7, 2007
ComingSoon.net got a chance to talk to Kevin McKidd, star of NBC's new time travel show "Journeyman," who was asked about the rumors that he is up for the title role in Marvel Studios' Thor movie. Here's what he said:
It is semi true. I didn't know about it either until I heard the rumors. I called my agent and the last I heard was I think they want to go with somebody much younger, a nineteen or twenty year old for that role. Although they may be switching their sights, the other main male character in that movie I think I am in consideration for. It certainly is by no means in the bag. To be honest until I read a script I don't really know so this is all still information coming out. It could be fun, but it depends on what is on the page. It all starts and finishes with the script.

Kevin McKidd would be brilliant as Thor. Seeing how he holds himself to honor and respect of the gods in Rome displayed his ability to portray an honorable and noble warrior.
KEVIN MCKIDD IS THOR!!!

i agree that he has a very regal bearing, a nobility of sorts that comes not only from his stance but the way he communicates; very straightforward, with clarity. Of course, his centurion character in HBO's Rome will not be the characterization of Thor, but I think he could do a mighty excellent job as the Asgardian prince.
But I also understand that Marvel might like someone a bit younger, sort of a 'thor begins' kind of story; it certainly could work, and i have no doubt that the actor cast, regardless of age, will have a special presence.
The only thing I might like to see in Thor is a actor who communicates 'large' in more ways than one. Thor is, in comics, one of the brawniest heroes, with a grand stature to match. I don't know how tall kevin mckidd is, or any other actors they might be considering for the role, but I picture the actor playing Thor as being a very strong man, to begin with.
I would think that Marvel is going to head in the direction of a larger, younger guy to play the lead. It makes a bit more economical sense, for at least three pictures, if the actor is younger than McKidd (now, age 35), who might be closer to 45 by the time "Thor 2" comes out, most likely set to release after 'The Avengers.'
I like Mckidd, and would greatly enjoy his performance as Thor.

You made some good points (especially about the age) and since we agree on the way he carries himself then perhaps he should play one of the Gods.

Thor has to be the biggest Avenger (not counting the Hulk) tall, broad shouldered, thick necked, lantern jawed and cut up. I say they look for actors in Norway, Sweden, etc. for a guy who is huge and can act who already has the right accent.
