...And Dominic Cooper Might be in Thor, Too!
Source:Movieline
October 19, 2009

With all of this jibber-jabber about whether Robert De Niro and Jude Law are or aren't in Kenneth Branagh's Thor and who they might play, those sneaky blokes at Movieline interviewed Dominic Cooper for Lone Scherfig's An Education and just happened to notice that the young British actor, best known for his role in the musical Mamma Mia!, was preparing to audition for a role in the movie himself!

Essentially, the interviewer happened to notice the Thor sides Cooper had been studying and started asking questions about whether he'd been approached for the role of Fandral the Dashing, one of the Warriors Three, already knowing the answer.

You can read exactly how it went down at the end of that interview over on Movieline.

Of course, just because Cooper is studying, that doesn't mean he's already gotten the role of the blonde bearded swashbuckler, but it certainly would be interesting to see him, De Niro and Jude Law as The Warriors Three if that's the way Branagh decides to go.

The mighty Thor is becoming more of a film that has alot of strong cast to make it something that fans of Thor and fans of the cast would dream about. We have to wait and see more development

There is so much that seems to be going into this film, I desperately hope they let it run it's course and don't try to cut it down into a 90 minute movie. Sounds like it will need 2 full hours at least to cover the story and characters.

Posted by: Lemming on October 19, 2009 at 14:05:24

This is like that storyline from season 1 of entourage. The one where Jame Cameron was directing Aquaman. lol

Okay stop...Stop (possibly) adding everyone to this movie just get the needed roles down and make THOR with said-actors, if you add too many people it'll suck.

Best way to stop him is to murder him. Do you want to go down as the man who killed Stan The Man lee? I did not think so!

Now I am just waiting for Kurse to be cast.....
DC take note : this is how you cast a movie. (oh I forgot DC doesn't make movies unless batman is in the title...)

-Too many ACTORS or too many CHARACTERS? The actors are what can make a movie work. Overstuffing a movie with characters can or cannot work. Branagh seems to be taking his time in planning this and smoothing it over. I'm not worried, not with the amount of work he and Marvel Studios seem to be putting in.

This is what I hate about Marvel movies -- they jam pack their films with so many supporting characters from the comics, many of which are not needed, and pack on cameos galore from other characters as well.

I was very skeptical about "Thor" working on film, but with the talent that is attracted to the film, it seems as though they are doing this right.

This film better be good and not some sort of fanboy in-joke in which the only person who gets the cameos and characters, along with their relevancy to the story and comic book mythos, is the tubby guy sitting in the middle of the theater munching down his peanut brittle, gulping down his Mountain Dew and pumping his flabby fist a million times in a row at the hint of anything "comic bookie" (i.e. "Just call us SHIELD").

Having red the script I can say that this will be the best marvel movie ever.

Posted by: number of character woes on October 19, 2009 at 15:52:22

If this movie is a telling of Thor and his beginnings it makes sence to have a cast this large. Its two worlds. He has to get his start in Asgard and then be sent to midgard to learn his humbling lessons. the warriors three are part of that. Loki is part of that. Odin is part of that. His love interests are part of that. So...the real issue is a good script, not the number of characters. Marvel movies wih large supporting characters sucked because the scripts sucked.

@Lemming

Hey there's nothing wrong with my cameo. I'm going to keep making cameos, even in the new Green Lantern movie

please marvel let me star in one of your movies so that i can get away from making crappy disney movies.

No thanks for Cooper as Fandral. Ever since I heard the rumor of Law possibly getting the role, I've been cheerleading it. Never been a huge fan of Law's but I think he would be good in the role. A little extra star power wouldn't hurt this film at all. I literally know nothing of this Cooper bloke.

Posted by: Killer_Tomato on October 19, 2009 at 16:06:18

I guess he could be Fandral the Dashing...I dunno though...he's just kind of soft looking...

So we'll say he could potentially have the role...though there is no guarantee.

So we'll say (using oft rumored cast):

Dominic Cooper = Fandral the Dashing
Colme Feore = Hogun the Grim
Brian Blessed = Volstagg (honestly if Brian Blessed is in the movie...he would make a much more awesome, albeit older Volstagg as opposed to the rumored Odin)

Stellan Skarsgård can have Odin...

I just don't really see Jude Law or Robert DeNiro in this movie...they both just seem off...
