The superhero movie rumors continue this weekend with word from Ain't It Cool News that actor Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie) told the German edition of GQ magazine that he's in the running for a role in director Kenneth Branagh's Thor and that Jude Law and Robert De Niro have also joined the cast.

If true, the trio would be joining Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard in the comic book adaptation scheduled for a release on May 20, 2011.

they are def swinging for the fences with thor, and it looks like it would take alot for the to f#ck up a movie with that kinda cast

DE NIRO?! That's quite possibly the coolest thing that could ever happen to a superhero movie! PLEASE be true!!!! :D

All star cast. Better not be crap.
Deniro in a hero movie. That'll be interesting

Law = Fandral the Dashing

Posted by: Hinkomaster on October 18, 2009 at 04:54:07

Isnt Tom Hiddleston playing Loki???

Posted by: blake on October 18, 2009 at 05:05:54

Jude Law = Donald Blake

Posted by: Brian on October 18, 2009 at 05:18:04

I'm guessing Law is Fandall and DeNiro is Hogun.

The movie is sounding better and better everytime there's news about it... Ordinarily I would not be interested in a Thor film, but I think this is going to be a good film.

Brannagh is the kind of director that can attract big names to a project- just have a look at who he can get for his Shakespeare productions, so this is'nt too far fetched.
With the beard, I could see DeNiro as Odin if the Blessed one wasn't available.

This is exciting news. I imagine that DeNiro will play some New Yorker or something. Or maybe he'll be one of the Frost Giants.

Okay so let me get this right....De Niro and Sam Jackson?? I really think I need to sleep on this, let it sink in, give it a day to make sure this isn't a prank my buddies are playing on me and then come back to this....De Niro and Sam Jackson.....HOLY@*^T.....I'm there.

seriously...even if it hasn't started shooting...this is my favorite Marvel movie of all time! HAHAHA...im really looking forward for this.

bring on Ed Norton as Hulk guys!

De Niro sounds too good to be true.

Posted by: Man of Tommorrow on October 18, 2009 at 08:42:58

De Niro could not play as one of the god's could he? I mean he has a new york accent. Has anyone seen him play in a movie where he has a brittish/english accent? If he does then that would be great. I just have never seen him use a different accent.

Thumbs up for De Niro, but please stop putting Jude Law in movies that I want to watch damn it!

Posted by: gunner on October 18, 2009 at 09:45:22

WOW !!!
go kenneth go !!
one thing i'm trying tofigure out is why slam jude law? , great actor ,and he De Niro give this movie lot's of leg's when it come's to real actor's.
thank god there are no wrestler's with lead role's in what i assume to be a first class movie.
now that being said , cast the captain america movie and let's MOVE !!!

Thats a very heavy cast well done Branagh!

Just gets better and better :)

sounds a bit sureal to me but if its true could be something of epic proportions but i dont know if its fanboys dreaming it all up i hope it isnt all lies and kenneth puts it all together and makes the main part of the avengers fit together coz captainamerica is easy thor is the main binding factor filmwise

The more I hear about this movie the better it sounds. Hopefully those rumors are true. Like Most people I thought Thor would be one of the most difficult Superhero movies to translate into film. But since they started making announcements about the Story/Director/Cast everything has sounded great. Now with BIG STAR POWER like Law and Deniro it will get more people interested in it. Once again this movie has the possibility to be a huge success or a major flop. My Vision is a LOTR type film with one central Hero

The idea of DeNiro in Thor is really strange. He's great in everything he does, but it sounds so unlikely that it's a movie he'd be in. How confirmed is this report? Has anyone actually read the German version of GQ, where it's supposedly reported, or is it only a rumor on AintItCoolNews?

Until I see it confirmed somewhere, I'm taking this report with a grain of salt. I'm honestly surprised that people still give AICN creedence. Their credibility has never been good. It was pretty much shriveled to nothing when AICN made up the rumor that Leonardo DiCrapio would be playing the adult Anakin in Episode II. Am I the only one who remembers this? AICN pretty much embodies the reasons one shouldn't just believe every rumor they read on the internet.

Alot of notable people in this but it kind of scares me in the opposite direction it will be a movie with starpower but the film will just suck, but I have faith in Branahs abilities like when he made Frankenstien so well.

But with so many stars i'm worried it will end up alongthe lines of Rocky & Bullwinkle's movie.

I have high hopes for thor ever since seeing The Return of the Incredible Hulk back in the late 80's with thors kick ass hammer beat bad guys down "ODIN!"

Maybe Jude Law is the captain america???

Who know

Posted by: caabrae on October 18, 2009 at 14:10:41

Hey Man of Tommorrow, did you ever see Mary Shelly's Frankenstein? That's a great non-New York accent role for him! I would be blown away to see him playing Odin! And I don't know if they'll do it, but Jude Law as Donald Blake would really work!
