Bendis Calls Thor Script "Very, Very Good"
Source:Comic Book Resources
October 12, 2009

Comic Book Resources attended the Baltimore Comic-Con, where Brain Michael Bendis briefly talked about the connection between the Marvel Studios movies and the Thor script:

He also confirmed again that all of the movies would have certain threads that run through them for those excited to see connections.

"I'm Thor. A Jewy Thor," Bendis said when asked about casting for the flicks. On a more serious note, the "New Avengers" writer added, "I was reading the new script just last night. Very, very good."

The Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor will star Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, Samuel L. Jackson and Stellan Skarsgard. The movie is scheduled for a May 20, 2011 release.

i wonder if this will be a very serious movie

can't wait bring on the avengers!!!

Posted by: Dean on October 13, 2009 at 01:09:36

itll be serious, theres an easy way to get kind of edgy and darker with greek mythology if told correctly

Posted by: Yagyu on October 13, 2009 at 01:25:35

If it had bendis blessing im sure it will rule. Benis rocks.

Posted by: doh on October 13, 2009 at 01:26:37

It is northern mythology and not greek!
Hercules is greek.

I wonder how it'll be, but I am very hopeful.

He'd have to say it's good either way, but I think I'll believe him. The last time I remember him giving an advanced thumbs up to a script was for Kill Bill, and he was dead-on.

Samuel L. Jackson is in this? I just wish they'd focus less on the fan-sy crossovers and concentrate more on making a good film.

I hope the Asgard scenes are suitably epic, that everyone (including Thor) talks in a Stan Lee/Shakespearean way with the "doths" and "By Odin's beard", etc. I also hope that the film starts out grounded in reality, with lame Dr. Donald Blake finding the walking stick/hammer in a cave in Norway, and then builds to a huge, god-like climax spanning Asgard and NYC.

And I hope SLJ's cameo will be after the credits, so I can walk out of the theater before then.

i'm pretty sure they said donald blake won't be in the movie.

I hate Bendis. I can't even read Marvel comics since he started whipping his ass with them.

I feel good about Thor, but having Bendis say something good about it is not what I want to hear.

@ I MADE GALACTUS EAT MY SHORTS: I think you can bring a certain amount of comedy into it, but the majority of the film has to be serious. Kind of like Batman Begins.

I'd like to know what a writer who actually worked on Thor thinks of the script. Walt Simonson? JMS?
Bendis? Please.

i don't really trust bendis's word, not that i would anyone else's until i saw the movie for myself. sure, he may have been dead-on for kill bill, but he also said he loved marvel ultimate alliance 2... and, myself being a marvel fan included, i didn't really enjoy the game... as did many others.

if sam jackson is in this its going to be a lot of yellin lol

I'll worry about The Avengers, later.

Please just make sure Thor and Captain America are done correctly! Especially Captain America!

(suddenly wakes up)

Whoa...

I just had a dream where Mojo said something relevant...

Hey, what happened to BRIAN BLESSED!!!! being in here? Him being Odin was a highlight for me. Don't get me wrong, I'm liking how it's shaping up, but it was just one of those fanboyish moments that made me cheer.

As much as I have high hopes for this movie. I find it very hard to take any solace from a representative of Marvel telling me this movie will be good. They ALWAYS say that, sure, most of the time they're right. But the point is, they surely can't be relied upon to give us an honest opinion. They stand to gain from the movie, so of course they're going to tell us whatever they can to get our asses in the seat, truth be damned.

Then again, the same goes for any studio, not just Marvel. The ones who stand to make $$$ will always be the ones to tell us the movie in question is the best thing ever made. So Marvel can easily be forgiven the same not so subtle ploy.

I guess I just don't see the point in posting numerous articles which basically just say "Marvel says this particular Marvel movie is GRRRREAT!" Well....no sh_t, they're not about to tell us it sucks now are they? I'd hardly call this news.

I can't wait to see Thor, and Captain America and then Avengers. But if their plan is to have everyone obviously reprise their respective roles, they better get a role on. I mean Thor in 2011, Cap in probably 2013 then Avengers in 2015? Like six years away, they can have an Iron Man trilogy, two Nick Fury movies and their third different Hulk relaunch with their third different actor playing the hulk. I don't care, I'll be there opening night for IM2, for Thor, Cap and Avengers. Just wondering if Tony Stark is going to have a walker as his sick kick in the Avengers movie?

Posted by: GammaBob on October 13, 2009 at 04:01:47

@ SilentSoze

Actually I think they're looking for a 2012 release for Avengers, I think the plan is IM2 in 2010, Thor in 2011 and I think both Cap and Avengers are coming out in 2012. So really only about 2 and a half to 3 years away.

Great the douchebag bendis likes it, im sure the other douchebag quesda likes it too, they suck i cant take their opinon seriously, they are the main reason marvel sucks now....HOWEVER Kenneth Brannagh is amazing and very dedicated so we will see.

These movies will blow. It will be Lord of the Rings meets Spider-Man. How can this be anything but crap?

Posted by: Chris on October 13, 2009 at 07:00:14

How long has Jackson been confirmed for this?!

Posted by: Dan on October 13, 2009 at 07:03:53

Well he's hardly going to tell everyone it's ****, is he? Not if he wants to keep his job. Still, I'm looking forward to this- it all sounds a bit more 'out there' than the other Marvel movies so it should at the very least be a lot of fun.
