Ashley Miller and Tom Hiddleston on Thor!
Source:CineFOOLS, The Daily Mail
May 30, 2009

CineFOOLS has posted a great interview with Thor co-writer Ashley Miller talking about the Marvel Studios comic book adaptation. Here's a cool excerpt from the article:

Not in the sense that you'd want to see a generic "dark" take on Thor, but in the sense that you want to feel Thor's rage when he rages. You want to see him fight like hell, and take as much he dishes out -- maybe more. You want to have a visceral reaction to the guy, and what happens to him. You don't want his adventures to be clean and antiseptic. You want to see the dirt, and grime and blood. You want to feel every bone crunching moment of every fight. And when he unleashes the storm, you want to feel like you're seeing the power of a GOD at work.

Check out the full interview here! Also, The Daily Mail talked to Tom Hiddleston about playing the villain, Loki. Check out these bits...

'Loki's like a comic book version of Edmund in King Lear, but nastier,' Tom observed.

How much nastier? 'Well, Loki's skilled in black magic and scorcery. He's a shape-shifter and has all sorts of super powers from the dark arts. He can turn clouds into dragons, things like that.'

Between now and January, when Thor begins shooting, Tom has to keep himself fit and healthy.

'Ken wants Loki to have a lean and hungry look, like Cassius in Julius Caesar. Physically, he can't be posing as Thor.'

Thor is scheduled for a May 20, 2011 release.

Well if they can get that right. There is hope.. Just waiting for photos & such to start "leaking" to the net.

Posted by: Darkhawk on May 30, 2009 at 13:09:21

sounds pretty kool. I'm really looking forward to this movie, but I hope they stay true to the source material. Also, I cant wait for the Avengers movie cuz I want to see a big smack down between the Hulk and Thor...heck, not just against Thor but all the Avengers. Now that would be sick!

7 comments and only 1 and a half about the actual film... sigh

i'm liking the way it's sounding so far, really interested to see the costume designs.

can't wait for those first pics....hopefully it will be like the lord of the rings...same style...i mean.

Only good news thus far. Hope it works the way they want it to, and I hope they work hard to keep up with Green Lantern. Personally, I can't stand reading GL comics (I like the characters, I like the concepts, but I can't tolerate the bureaucracy), but every animated version has always been fun to watch - even Super Friends. Thor will steal from GL, and GL will steal from Thor. I just hope that there's a balance.

oh ya definitely, I agree with u Harvey. I'm also interested to see the costume design as well as the first photos from this movie.

I have big faith in this movie.

lol the co-writer mentions alot of thing like "bonecrunching" and "You want to see the dirt, and grime and blood."

do you guys think this movie will contain violence and blood (well not too much)

but imagine a rated R Thor hah
i would loooove to see that :D

Posted by: Honest Fan on May 30, 2009 at 14:17:44

It won't be rated R, and it doesn't need to be. It needs to appeal to as wide a range of movie-goers as possible, because a lot of folks don't know jack-diddly about Thor. For example, my parents have no clue that he's even a superhero, whereas they actually went and saw Spider-Man because they knew of him. These "minor" characters in both DC and MARVEL will need to work hard to bring in the mass-viewing audience, if they at all want to make money. If you look at the way IRON MAN was handled, they did it perfectly. Once again, my parents didn't know or care about IRON MAN, however, when they saw the great reviews and heard that it was a fun flick, they too went and saw it. There just HAS to be a way for other writer, directors, and movie studios to copy what transpired with IRON MAN and make a movie that is true enough for us fan boys, yet super entertaining for all the others who actually have cash! Here's hoping that THOR and G.L. will accomplish this tough task.

By the way,... if you don't believe me, answer me this: How much money did PUNISHER: WAR ZONE actually make for the studio?
Yeah,... making a movie that pleases a few blood-thirsty fanboys is really worth it, huh?

Posted by: ComicGeek on May 30, 2009 at 14:21:51

Im thinking this might work after all.

Wow, Honest Fan, that was actually a really good post. I must re-read and digest slowly.

Posted by: studmuffin220 on May 30, 2009 at 14:25:41

jesus christ...but sadly, your RIGHT Honest Fan

but hopefully its a HARD rated PG13 :)

Posted by: Rob on May 30, 2009 at 14:30:35

If there's lots of fantastical creatures I could see it being Lord of the Rings level violent. I like what I've read there but I'm not getting too excited because I remember hearing Hugh Jackman say he wanted to take Wolverine back to his tougher more hardcore routes while making X-men Origins but in the finished film he's about as tame as I've ever seen him.

Posted by: Lars on May 30, 2009 at 14:53:45

This all sounds very good. Kenneth Branagh is going to nail this puppy I just know it. Marvel is doing all things right. The Avengers is shaping up to be a masterpiece. Any word on Cap yet?

Posted by: Swarley on May 30, 2009 at 14:55:47

People need to remember, Lord of the Rings with some hardcore epic battle scenes was rated PG-13. The Dark Knight was PG-13, and for the most part both of those had some really hard scenes that should have had them rated R. In Hollywood if a movie is going to make major bank, they will be given the rating they need.

Thor probably will be pretty hardcore and badass, and still rated PG-13

Posted by: Fanboiii on May 30, 2009 at 15:03:58

No, most people know who Thor is, at least the mythical Thor and he's not that different from Marvel's Thor. I think this will be a PG-13 movie like The Dark Knight. It can get away with a lot while not being so lame like Fox's bloodless Wolverine. I'm liking everything about Thor so far.

Posted by: Fanboiii on May 30, 2009 at 15:10:03

Hold the phone, why is Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz getting all the credit for the script? What happened to Mark Protosevich?

Posted by: GreenNinjaN on May 30, 2009 at 15:33:42

I like what I'm hearing. Loki does need to be just like Cassius or Edmund with a lean and hungry kind of look. Sort of like a vulture waiting for the feast. I also love the the description Ashley Miller gave of Thor and how when he calls upon his powers you really feel like you're witnessing the power of a God. This sounds like they have the right team working on this movie just like Iron Man. Awesome.
